[NTG-context] Part dividers, American style.

2008-07-16 Thread John Culleton
Per the Chicago Manual of Style divider pages and their blank versos
do not show page numbers but are included in the page count, just
like any other pages. However the \part macro excludes them from the
page numbering sequence altogether. And my current customer at least
wants roman rather than arabic numerals. After many false starts I
came up with this macro:
-
\def\Part#1#2#3{%
\page[yes]
\ifodd\pageno
\else
\noheaderandfooterlines
\null
\page[yes]
\fi
\noheaderandfooterlines
\writetolist[part]{}{#1: #2 #3}
\nimbux
\null
\vskip 2in
\centerline{Part #1}
\vskip 15pt
\centerline{#2}
\vskip 15pt
\centerline{#3}
\vfil
\rm
\page[yes]
}
--
The first parameter is the roman numeral. Automatic numbering is not
needed for just five parts. Note colon inserted for the TOC. It
isn't needed on the page itself.

If the part title is short then the third parameter is simply left
blank.

\nimbux has a simple font defintition. A typesectipt would have been
too much effort for this single use:

\font\nimbux texnansi-n019044t at 33bp %Nimbus bold sans condensed

It works because of these two arguments.

[NTG-context] ConTeXt ver: 2008.07.14 18:07 MKIV

2008-07-16 Thread Willi Egger
Hi LUA-users,

Yesterday I installed a complete new set of minimals on my MAC (OSX
10.4).

Now I get very strange results wit MATPOST. The file compiled
contains a large definition which is used as an inclusion to produce
a series of similar drawings with different parameters. When
compiling the document with texexec --lua the fist page is ok. The
second and the following pages contain each page all the previous
drawings on top of each other.

If the same drawing-set is compiled with texexec in MKII mode (This
is MetaPost, version 1.085 (kpathsea version 3.5.6dev), some elements
are distorted. It concerns elements, which are rotated and shifted.
The fullcircle contained in the drawing is distorted too. Further
also this document contains on the second and following pages the
drawings from the previous pages stacked.

This file compiles correctly with

This is pdfTeXk, Version 3.141592-1.40.1 (Web2C 7.5.6) (format=cont-

I tried to make a small test file. However this did not show the
problem described above. For someone who want to test I can provide
the source and my pdfs offline.

 Per the Chicago Manual of Style divider pages and their blank versos
 do not show page numbers but are included in the page count, just
 like any other pages. However the \part macro excludes them from the
 page numbering sequence altogether. And my current customer at least
 wants roman rather than arabic numerals. After many false starts I
 came up with this macro:
 -
 \def\Part#1#2#3{%
 \page[yes]
 \ifodd\pageno
 \else
 \noheaderandfooterlines
 \null
 \page[yes]
 \fi
 \noheaderandfooterlines
 \writetolist[part]{}{#1: #2 #3}

 \null
 \vskip 2in
 \centerline{Part #1}
 \vskip 15pt
 \centerline{#2}
 \vskip 15pt
 \centerline{#3}
 \vfil
 \rm
 \page[yes]
 }
 --
 The first parameter is the roman numeral.

\setuppagenumbering
  [alternative=doublesided,
   partnumber=no,
   way=bytext]

\definemakeup

\def\PartTextCommand#1%

Sometimes, you do not want \version[temporary]. In those cases, I usually
use

\overfullrule5\points

This can also be incorporated in the \version command,

\unprotect
\def\doversion[#1]%
  {\chardef\conceptmode\zerocount
   \overfullrule\zeropoint
   \processaction % \v!final=
 [#1]
 [  \v!concept=\chardef\conceptmode\plusone,  % simple banner
   \v!file=\chardef\conceptmode\plustwo,  % full banner
  \v!temporary=\chardef\conceptmode\plusthree % full banner plus
\overfullrule5\points, % info in the margin
 draft=%\chardef\conceptmode\plusfour
\overfullrule5\points]}

\protect

and then one can use \version[draft].

(if you know how) can you try the same thing with pdftex 1.40.3 vs.

images cf. this bug report:

In mkiv, all images are processed sequentially in a single metapost

 Hi LUA-users,

 Yesterday I installed a complete new set of minimals on my MAC (OSX

 Now I get very strange results wit MATPOST. The file compiled
 contains a large definition which is used as an inclusion to produce
 a series of similar drawings with different parameters. When
 compiling the document with texexec --lua the fist page is ok. The
 second and the following pages contain each page all the previous
 drawings on top of each other.
 We (blame *me*) just followed Taco's request to test the new mplib,
 and you are the third one to complain. I think that Taco is eagerly
 waiting for such bug reports :) :) :)

 If you need the old working metapost, let me know.

There will be a new metapost release on friday.

 good news :)

 will test asap. aside from one problem with png transparency (when the
 pdf is included, the picture shows the wrong background color) the
 luatex trunk (12-07-2008) works fine here.

 (if you know how) can you try the same thing with pdftex 1.40.3 vs.
 1.40.8 as well? There was a bugfix in pdftex 1.40.6 for Transparant
 images cf. this bug report:

 http://sarovar.org/tracker/index.php?func=detailaid=896group_id=106atid=493

 and it is possible that it has side-effects.

sure. if someone can point me to the windows binaries of pdftex 1.40.3 i
can test that.

just some additional infos:
i have the following (different) versions of the included example pdf:

producerincluded by pdftex 1.40.9-rc1
-
luatex 0.22.2   ok
luatex 0.26 bug
luatex 0.28 bug
pdftex 1.40.9-rc1   bug

so it looks like pdftex is the source of the problem :)

 (if you don't know how) maybe you can send me the file(s)?

sorry, not an option. but i can send you the 'broken' pdf (400k), so
that you get an impression what i mean. i can also try to make a
minimal, but if it doesn't show up under simplified conditions, there is
not much that i can do.

You could either use a real font name like 'Arial' or a symbolic name
defined with \definefontsynonym like 'Serif', 'SerifBold', 'Sans',
