So I mail Eric the tfm and map files needed so this problem is solved.

[NTG-context] Understanding ConTeXt better. What does \doattributes do?

2008-08-03 Thread Elliot Clifton
Hi,

I've been reading the Document Titles page on the wiki
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Document_Titles. I'm trying to better
understand how ConTeXt works. Could someone explain what
\doattributes does? It doesn't appear to be covered in the Inside
ConTeXt section of the wiki.

Also on the subject of Document Titles. Why is it that \setuptitle is
called several times at the end of the source code?

TIA,

Elliot

Re: [NTG-context] menu question

the best you can do is to either make the fontsize smaller

It would decrease the menu readability too much.

the area wider (less linebreaks)

It would decrease the text area width too much.

or see of \startsimplecolumns ... \stopsimplecolumns

Although I don't see how adding columns would provide
a solution - the chapter/section titles are in french, i.e.
usually longer than for ex. in english ( they could be
shortened and then most would become meaningless)
- where is that command documented ? I didn't find it in
the main manual, excursion, wiki, texshow.

helps

Not really I'm afraid.  :O(

Thanks anyway.

Best,
Alan

To create a pdf call 'texexec ma-cb-fa' for the print version and
'texexec --mode=screen ma-cb-fa' for the screen version.

To the other translators: Do you think we should also use luaTeX for the

 To the other translators: Do you think we should also use luaTeX for the
 beginners manuals as we do in the reference manual and remove the few
 commands for pdfTeX (something concerning MetaPost IIRC).

eventually we will indeed use mkiv for the manuals but in some cases we
need to setup the fonts differently

 Hi,

 In MKIV/mplib, dotlabel does not draw a dot. Here is a test file. I am
 using ConTeXt ver: 2008.07.31 16:30 MKIV fmt: 2008.8.2 and MetaPost,
 version 1.085 (kpathsea version 3.5.5). I don't know how to find the
 version of mplib being used.

 \startMPpage
dotlabel.bot(\sometxt{(0,0)}, origin) ;

hm, this is the border case ... so we need

local function flushnormalpath(path, t, open)
 local pth, ith
 for i=1,#path do
...
 end
 if not open then
...
 elseif #path == 1 then
 -- special case .. draw point
 local one = path[1]
 t[#t+1] = format(%f %f l,one.x_coord,one.y_coord)
 end
 return t
end

i hope this does not interfere (i.e. needs a more complex check)

Hi:

In this situation, texfont is not enough:)
because texfont can not handle math fonts.

 Hi Eric,

 It may help us if you give us more details:
 - the texfont command used,
 - did your pfb files are in a single directory or not ? ...
 - ...

 A good test is:
 \startMPenvironment[global] % use lucida for metapost too
 \usetypescript[lucida][texnansi]
 \usetypescript[lucidabfm][texnansi] % for bold math
 \usetypescript[lucidaboldmath][texnansi] % for bold math
 \setupbodyfont[lucida,10pt]
 \definebodyfont[17.3pt,14.4pt,12pt,11pt,10pt,9pt,8pt,7pt,6pt,5pt,4pt][rm][bc=SerifBoldCaps
 sa 1,
 bca=SerifBoldCaps sa a,
 bcb=SerifBoldCaps sa b,
 bcc=SerifBoldCaps sa c,
 bcd=SerifBoldCaps sa d,
 bcx=SerifBoldCaps sa x,
 bcxx=SerifBoldCaps sa xx] % dunno if required from now
 \stopMPenvironment

 \starttext
 \input knuth

 \setupbodyfont[lucida,10pt,cg]
 \input knuth

 \setupbodyfont[lucida,10pt,hw]
 \input knuth

 \setupbodyfont[lucida,10pt,sans]
 \input knuth

 \setupbodyfont[lucida,10pt,mono]
 \input knuth
 \stoptext

Hi:

 How did you install ConTeXt? Is it included in texshop? Could you try
 with texfont?

TeXShop is just an editor like TeXWorks.
It has nothing to do with ConTeXt and friends.

Update the ConTeXt distribution to the latest version.
It should be work.
If you don't know your distribution well, Ask mojca for help.
She is the minimals distribution developer as well as a professional
Mac OS X user:)

(Or here is a dirty hint: maybe you can rename all the texnansi-*
tfms to texnansi-raw-*)
