Hmm... which version are you using? I do get a ranom output each time.
Tested with 2009.12.31 and 2010.03.20.

Since the math seed is set after \starttext, it should overwrite the
value after reading the tuc file.

Actually, I consider saving the random number in tuc file to be a
misfeature. A random sequence generator should generate a random
sequence. If I want the same behavior all the time, I can use
\setupsystem[random=12345] (which should also set math.randomseed).

the reason is that otherwise (esp if the randomization produced
different input, graphic sizes, etc) you can get oscilation and endless
runs due to never quite right multipass data which is pretty hard to debug

I found that the problem can only be produced when using the simplefonts
module, while loading the adobesongstd font and some other Chinese
fonts. So, the problem maybe something's wrong with the simplefonts
module. The following is a simple example.

\usemodule[simplefonts]

\setcjkmainfont[adobesongstd]

\starttext

\starttyping
--
\stoptyping

\type{--}

And if I use \setmainfont[some Western Fonts] instead of the
\setcjkmainfont line, the problem still exists.

Re: [NTG-context] randomize

2010-04-07 Thread Arthur Reutenauer
 Now it works. But WHY?

Because that's the way random number generators works. They're not
random at all, they generate completely predictable number sequences
from a seed: each time you use the same seed, you get the exact same
sequence. In your case, you used os.time() as a seed, which is an
integral number of seconds elapsed since some fixed date, and the fact
you saw the same number ten times simply means your code was ran ten
times within the same second.

Always depends on what one mean about hurry... I have a job
application that should be done by this week. Tried now to install the
current verion instead of beta, but then I hit some other bug.

Is there a switch to first-setup that installes the beta from, say, day X?

Sorry for spaming the list and answering myself, but maybe someone
else can get help out of this:

sh ./first-setup.sh --context=experimental

gives

ConTeXt ver: 2010.04.05 22:47 MKIV fmt: 2010.4.7 int: english/english
and
This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.60.0-2010040422

in which version this works as expected, so problem solved for now.

Thanks to all who answered.

mult-def.lua holds the database of translations of keywords. This
database is used to create the mult-xx files for context mkii.

In there you will find:

  [backspace]={

 Marge intérieure / marge extérieure?

No, this would be the equivalent of Inner margin / outer margin, I
guess.

The thing is that I don't know and don't find printers terminology using
backspace or cutspace.

In French, we also have petit fond and grand fond, that might be
what I'm looking for, but not sure.

It's not procrastination, by the way: I'd just like to get a clear
picture of the concepts behind context terminology and, eventually, try
to translate them in order to help new users (and myself!) to get in the
way easily.

Thanks.
retourarriere is a litteral translation (to my opinion) and is not
reflecting what the keyword backspace really means. In fact, I find it
quite exotic in a definition of a page layout...

Re: [NTG-context] randomize

2010-04-07 Thread Wolfgang Werners-Lucchini
  Now it works. But WHY?

Because that's the way random number generators works. They're
 not
random at all, they generate completely predictable number
 sequences
from a seed: each time you use the same seed, you get the exact
 same
sequence. In your case, you used os.time() as a seed, which is an
integral number of seconds elapsed since some fixed date, and the
 fact
you saw the same number ten times simply means your code was ran
 ten
 times within the same second.

I know this and I have triggerd this by hand. So there is a lot of
time between. I have purged files between every run and I got the
same result if I wait 1 second, 1 minute or 1 day.

Not bad at all, I think.
Maybe blanc de coupe would be a little bit better.

But I'd rather follow, for example:
http://www.alain.les-hurtig.org/varia/empagement.html who uses petit
fond et grand fond. It has the advantage to use a professional
terminology, which is easier to fall back to when discovering the
context system. No?

Well, then it probably qualifies as a bug, and, since the .tuc file

Add '\setmonofont[Latin Modern Mono][features=none]' to your file.

You can see the effect also without simplefonts:

 I have problems with \big, \bigl, \Bigl, ...

 %% Example
 \def\foo#1{\type{#1}: #1}

 \starttext
 \foo{$|x|^n$} % as expected.

 \foo{$\bigl|x^n\bigr|$} % expect bigger bars

 \foo{$\big|x^n\big|$} % expect bigger bars

\foo{$\Bigl|x^n\Bigr|$} % too small again (but bigger than \big)

\foo{$\biggl|x^n\biggr|$} % too small again (but bigger than \big)

\foo{$\Biggl|x^n\Biggr|$} % too small again (but bigger than \big)

 \foo{$\|x^n\|$} % expect two bars

\foo{$\bigl\|x^n\bigr\|$} % expect two bars and bigger ones
 \stoptext
 %%% Stop example

It gives the attached pdf file with latest minimals and mkiv.

will be fixed in next beta ... i needed to make a few more virtal shapes (in
 the size chain)

Great Hans, thanks! Looking forward to the new beta...

 Mikael

Ok Hans, with the beta from yesterday the absolute values change size,
but there are some problems still:

1) The absolute value bars are not just straight lines when using
\big and friends, but som kind of line that is thicker in the middle.
(zoom i on attached pdf)
2) The horizontal spacing in the \big version seems to be bigger than
for the \bigl/\bigr version (and similar for \Big vs \Bigl/\Bigr). I'd
expect the same spacing (the l and r are just there for the writer to
easily see what is left and what is right).
3) I'd expect that \| gives double bars, like the || one get from
\Vert and not |. This is not so (see the attached file). Moreover, it
is not possible to do \bigl\Vert right now to get a bigger ||.

Mikael
