[NTG-context] ConTeXt header oddities

2010-08-19 Thread Peter McFarlane
Hi, hoping someone can help me with these couple of oddities I notice when
processing some ConText documents:

1. Bodymatter and appendix header logo doesn't get printed on the last page of
the section.

Here are the relevant sections of the document:

\def\HeadLogo%
{\externalfigure[clean.png][height=20pt]}
...
\startfrontmatter
% logo on page of frontmatter - this one seems to work for all pages of
frontmatter
\definelogo[aitlogo][header][right][state=start,command=\HeadLogo]
...
\stopfrontmatter
\startbodymatter
% logo on page of bodymatter - this one puts the logo in the header of all but
the last page of bodymatter
\definelogo[aitlogo][header][right][state=start,command=\HeadLogo]
...
\stopbodymatter
\startappendices
% logo on page of appendix - this one also puts the logo in the header of all
but the last page of appendix
\definelogo[aitlogo][header][right][state=start,command=\HeadLogo]
...
\stopappendices

Very strange and reproducible. Originally, I was using TeXLive 2005 when I
inherited the project...
since then I have upgraded to TeXLive 2009 but no change in behaviour.

2. There is _always_ a blank page at the end of the document, no matter how
many pages there are,
an extra one gets printed, with header but minus logo in the header, as
described in 1 above

Any help much appreciated,

Regards,

Pete

Re: [NTG-context] polish sorting

2010-08-19 Thread Philipp Gesang
Hi Hans,

1. changing the English sorting rules as you suggested had no effect,
neither did the “add_uppercase_mappings('pl',1)”.

2. I think my original question was stated imprecisly, so let me
emphasize what I'm after:

Suppose you've got three string aaa, Aaa and aab. They are tested
_as if_ they had the same case, i.e. “aaa == Aaa” (the sorter
returns 0). Then (only if the case-indifferent test returned equal)
another check is done for the _first_ character only. If both
strings differ in case of the first char, then the string with the
lowercase one gets precedence. The correct order will be:

[1] = aaa, [2] = Aaa, [3] = aab

whereas with uppercase after lowercase (as I understand it) you'd
get:

[1] = aaa, [2] = aab, [3] = Aaa

And that is why I extended the splitter (a) to keep the state of the
first character as a boolean as well as (b) to return lowercase sort
strings, and the comparer to do an extra check for this whenever
basicsort returns 0.

I really don't expect you to change the sorter, far from it. Perhaps you
can keep an extra comparer around to do the job -- after all the table
is called “comparers” but for now contains only a single one. Same for
splitters. And as this rule seems to be quite popular around the world
it might probably become useful someday. If you decide against it I'll
just put it on the wiki which will be fine enough, I guess.

Philipp

 Hi,

 I'm creating some sorting tables. While researching this topic I
 stumbled on the Polish dictionary sorting rules: if two strings are
 equal except for case then the one gets precedence that begins
 lowercase.[1] (This seems to apply to the Swedish order as well but I
 have no means to verify that. Apparently, my German dictionary (from
 1991) follows the same rule without explicitly stating so.)

 Context seems to prefer it the other way round, so I modified two
 functions from sort-ini.lua to handle that; but I'm not happy with
 this solution.

 So my question: is there already, or could we have some mechanism
 to influence the details of sorting in context?

 i wonder if this works out ok (needs a test index):

 sorters.replacements[pl] = {
 -- no replacements
 }

 sorters.entries[pl] = {
 [a] = a, [ą] = ą, [b] = b, [c] = c, [ć] = ć,

 [h] = h, [i] = i, [j] = j, [k] = k, [l] = l,
 [ł] = ł, [m] = m, [n] = n, [ń] = ń, [o] = o,
 [ó] = ó, [p] = p, [q] = q, [r] = r, [s] = s,
 [ś] = ś, [t] = t, [u] = u, [v] = v, [w] = w,
 [x] = x, [y] = y, [z] = z, [ź] = ź, [ż] = ż,
 }

 sorters.mappings[pl] = {
 [a] =  1, [ą] =  2, [b] =  3, [c] =  4, [ć] =  5,
 [d] =  6, [e] =  7, [ę] =  8, [f] =  9, [g] = 10,

 [ó] = 21, [p] = 22, [q] = 23, [r] = 24, [s] = 25,
 [ś] = 26, [t] = 27, [u] = 28, [v] = 29, [w] = 30,
 [x] = 31, [y] = 32, [z] = 33, [ź] = 34, [ż] = 35,

I'm using MKII (2010-05-24) from TeX Live 2010 (Note however that I had the
same problem with TeXLive 2009). The error is when the calendar library is
loaded:

! Undefined control sequence.

I have tried the Tikz distribution from TexLive, the latest Tikz distribution
from the suport Tikz page, and the distribution from the module made for
ConTeXt, but the problem remains. In the past (last academic year, in may),
this worked well, but I'm not able to find what has changed.

Thanks for hints and help !

Did you run luatools --generate?

 I have 10.04.

I use MKIV on Ubuntu 10.04 amd64, but from TeX Live 2010-pretest installed
using the CTAN installer, not from .deb packages. A CTAN install can
co-exist with a package install as long as you don't let the installer create
symbolic links, so you can install TeX Live 2010-pretest without damage to
the Ubuntu packages. If you have good network access to one of the
pretest archive sites then installing TeX Live 2010-pretest may be your
best route as you get newer versions of luatex, etc. Many people have
much better network access to Ubuntu archives than they do to CTAN, in
which case the Ubuntu packages may be the only viable option.

For more debugging, follow the checks for versions, shadowing, etc. from
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Debian_installation, in particular,
the Postscript: Mark
IV section, which does mention running luatools --generate as well
as manually
creating cont-en.fmt.

I'm using MKII (2010-05-24) from TeX Live 2010 (Note however that I
had the same problem with TeXLive 2009). The error is when the calendar

The example still works in mkiv. (Minimal distribution, fairly recent)

[NTG-context] Typeface - simple example

2010-08-19 Thread Peter Schorsch
Hi,

I reactivated my interest in Context. A lot changed since
then... so I am became a beginner again. E.g. I don't know / understand how
to use that Typescript-Framework. I tried to build a simple example, but I
do not get it to work.

I crosschecked successfully with simplefonts that the fonts itself are
working (via \simplefont[..]).

In this example I wanted to put the Nimbus Sans fonts on the rm-Definitions
(just to see that it is working).

I like what I was reading in the wiki, examples, posts and manuels about the
Typescript-framework - but can anyone help me to understand it really / help
me to get this simple example to work?

Thanks

 Hi,

 As suggested by Hans, here is an archive with the tex file I used for

 v8.70), only e, m and c from the formula are in the resulting metapost
 code. I will try with pstoedit v3.45 later today. I use ConTeXt (MkIV)
 from TeXlive 2010 pretest.

 If anyone has enough knowledge in gs and PDF files (Luigi?) and
 especially enough time, could you give it a look please? Thanks in
 advance. I will send the PDF to the author of pstoedit too.
#texexec makempy.tex

I've changed scaled 10 with scaled 5

  graphictext
MP $e=mc^2$ MP
scaled  5
withdrawcolor .7blue
withfillcolor .7white
withpen pencircle scaled 2pt ;

For mkiv, I suspect that gs has some problems with pdfs made by context

Well, actually I tried pstoedit 3.45 on Fedora and it works like a
charm. So it do come from pstoedit v3.50. I still have to send the

try to do it this week-end.

Thanks for the answer.

i've been using this for a quite some time now:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/console/

it is much faster in scrolling the log; it captures the output and
flushes periodically contrary to the normal console which flushes each
char and as tex often writes char by char ...; other os's use delays in
the refresh in consoles so there it's less noticeable

How can I fix it?

Did you run luatools --generate?

Yes I dit it.

The output is:

# luatools --generate
LuaTools | fileio: variable 'SELFAUTOLOC' set to '/usr/bin'
LuaTools | fileio: variable 'SELFAUTODIR' set to '/usr'
LuaTools | fileio: variable 'SELFAUTOPARENT' set to '/'

LuaTools | fileio: loading configuration file

[...]

Looks OK to me -- at least it finds /usr/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf
and then looks
in Ubuntu/Debian directories (/etc/texmf, /var/lib/texmf, etc).

The next step is to run the checks from the wiki's Debian page
(program versions,
ability to find files, etc.).

Did you have any previous TeX or ConTeXT installed on this system -- a common
source of problems is intermingling multiple TeX systems (as opposed to keeping
each one in a separate tree, which allows you to switch between a number of
different systems). Once you have verified that the right files are found you
may want to file a bug report against the Ubuntu package.

I have installed
- texlive
- context
- pgf
packages. That's all.

So what's the problem?
It seems perfect, isn't?

Xan.

[NTG-context] \startinterface and module documentation

2010-08-19 Thread Wolfgang Schuster

 Hi Hans,

there is a clash between \startinterface from mult-ini to set constants
and variables
and module documentation. The file s-mod-02.tex defines a paragraphe
environment with
the same name and as a result of this it's not possible to use a module
in it's docu

for examples.

Run this example with 'context --ctx=s-mod foo.tex' to reproduce it:

foo.tex
%M \usemodule[foo]

\unprotect

\startinterface all
  \setinterfacevariable {foo} {foo}
\stopinterface

\v!foo % should give 'foo' but '\v!foo' is undefined

\protect \endinput
/foo.tex

[NTG-context] Inserting non-standard TeX macro parameters to Lua variables

Hello all,

I'm looking for a way to insert any character (CSV separator) into a
variable. Manually insert a double (or single) quote is not a problem,
but how to use the universal way to not have to change the macro
definitions?
Is there another possibility to insert a macro parameter into a Lua
variable than the use double or single quote?

Any universal alternative is unfortunately impossible:
For example: \def\setseparatorC#1{\directlua{Sep=#1 }}  ???

Thanx Jaroslav

Here is my minimal example:

Re: [NTG-context] Inserting non-standard TeX macro parameters to Lua variables

2010-08-19 Thread Jaroslav Hajtmar

Hello Aditya,
I had no hope of solving the problem, but it works! Unbelievable!
Thanks very much for fixing the problem and the quickness too.

Hello all,

I'm looking for a way to insert any character (CSV separator) into a
variable. Manually insert a double (or single) quote is not a
problem, but how to use the universal way to not have to change the
macro definitions?
Is there another possibility to insert a macro parameter into a Lua
variable than the use double or single quote?

Any universal alternative is unfortunately impossible:
For example: \def\setseparatorC#1{\directlua{Sep=#1 }}  ???

Thanx Jaroslav

Here is my minimal example:

\def\setseparatorA#1{\directlua{Sep=#1}}
\def\setseparatorB#1{\directlua{Sep='#1'}}

Untested. Try

\unprotect
\def\setseparator#1{\directlua{sep=\!!bs#1\!!es}}
\protect

 Did you run luatools --generate?

Yes I dit it.

The output is:

And even after that context file does not work?

What is the output of luatools mtx-context?

Does mtxrun --script context filename work instead?

 Yes I dit it.

 The output is:

 # luatools --generate
 LuaTools | fileio: variable 'SELFAUTOLOC' set to '/usr/bin'
 LuaTools | fileio: variable 'SELFAUTODIR' set to '/usr'
 LuaTools | fileio: variable 'SELFAUTOPARENT' set to '/'
 LuaTools | fileio: variable 'TEXMFCNF' set to
 '{$SELFAUTODIR,$SELFAUTOPARENT}{,{/share,}/texmf{-local,.local,}/web2c}'
 LuaTools | fileio: loading configuration file
 /usr/share/texmf/web2c/texmf.cnf

 Did you have any previous TeX or ConTeXT installed on this system -- a
 common
 source of problems is intermingling multiple TeX systems (as opposed to
 keeping
 each one in a separate tree, which allows you to switch between a number
 of
 different systems).   Once you have verified that the right files are
 found you
 may want to file a bug report against the Ubuntu package.

 I have installed
 - texlive
 - context
 - pgf
 packages. That's all.

 So what's the problem?
 It seems perfect, isn't?

So there should be not be any conflicts with some other TeX disto.
Are you able to run the
various checks in the Debian wiki page? I have the same packages on
my (amd64) system
and context is working. Are you using 32-bit or the 64-bit Ubuntu,
gnome or kde? When I run
luatools --generate I get more files:

LuaTools | fileio: scanning path '/usr/share/texmf'
LuaTools | fileio: 8540 files found on 612 directories with 310
uppercase remappings
LuaTools | fileio: scanning path '/usr/share/texmf-texlive'
LuaTools | fileio: 17385 files found on 2747 directories with 722
uppercase remappings

maybe some package dependency was missed. I use TL2010-pretest from CTAN, but
ended up with texlive because something else (kile?) depends on it,
so it is quite possible
something dependency was left out in your installation.

Wait... are you running luatools --generate as root? Don't do that. Run it
as a normal user.
