[NTG-context] Float placement problem

2011-09-25 Thread Pontus Lurcock
Hello,

I've recently updated my standalone (32-bit Linux) ConTeXT from
2011.02.25 to 2011.09.20, and I'm now having some trouble with float
placement. I'm using MkIV. I'm trying to have figures protruding into
the outer margins with a double-sided layout, as described here:

http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Floating_Objects#Protruding_Floats_in_Double-Sided_Documents

Here is my minimal example:

\setuplayout[location=doublesided]
\setuppagenumbering[alternative=doublesided,location={margin,header}]
\setupfloat[figure][location=inner]
\showframe
\starttext
% An extra page. \page[yes]
\dorecurse{4}{
\placefigure[]{caption}{\externalfigure[cow.pdf][width=17cm]}}
\stoptext

With version 2011.02.25 this produces the desired result; with
2011.09.20, the first figure is placed correctly, and all subsequent
figures protrude in the same direction, whether they're on an even or
odd page. So in the given example they all protrude to the right. If
an extra page is inserted at the start so that the first figure is on
an even page, they all protrude to the left.

Does anyone have any ideas or insights?

Thanks in advance,

Pont

Gentium currently does not have good support for math fonts.
Xits gives the best results for math, it appears at the moment.

What do you want to achieve with the line above because it doesn’t make any
sense.

When you want to change the main font to Gentium you can do this with
“\setupbodyfont[gentium]”.

\setupbodyfont[gentium]

[NTG-context] colon in lucida math

2011-09-25 Thread Meer, H. van der
I get the impression there is something wrong with typesetting math with the
lucida setup in ConTeXt. I find that the \colon is not printed. Below is a
minimal example. See the colon in the first formula that is absent in the
second.

Perhaps someone is willing to check if this is ConTeXt in general or my own
setup in particular. In both cases I will be pleased with a remedy.

Thanks for all your replies!

I changed the superscript e into \high{e}. There is one other math item:
$\frac1{40}$ in the whole text.

I am using mkiv.
Until the recent update the document (90 pp.) was processed fine.

I add a minimal example below.

Thanks again for looking into this problem.

[NTG-context] Frame around float and its caption, how to?

2011-09-25 Thread Stefan Müller

Hi list,

I'm using 201100920 00:09 MkIV standalone. Some time ago Marcin
Borkowski asked [1] on this list about framing floats together with
their captions. It seems to be unanswered and now I stumbled upon a
similar problem. I want to have a figure with a caption together in a
frame as wide as the surrounding text, aka \textwidth and the caption
filling the available horizontal space. I.e. I want something like

\setupcaption[width=\textwidth]
\starttext
\placefigure[here]{\input tufte}{\externalfigure[cow]}
\stoptext

with a frame around it.

I see two approaches here and none of them gives me what I need. First
using \setupfloat[frame=on] only frames the cow and not the caption. I
think I can manually correct this with framedepth and width but
doing something manually in ConTeXt seems not like a good idea. Am I
overlooking something about \setupfloat?

Secondly, I tried \framed{...} around \placefigure but there are two
issues here: How do I setup the caption to fit nicely into the frame?
\setupcaption[width=\textwidth] is to much because of the frame
spacing... And there is another serious issue, see the following
minimal example. The frame is where the figure was placed but is empty,
because the figure floated to the next page.

\setupcaption[width=max]
\starttext
\dorecurse{2}{\input tufte \par}
\framed{\placefigure[here][fig:muh]{\input tufte}{\externalfigure[cow]}}
\input tufte
\stoptext

I have no idea how to procede with this. Hopefully someone on this list
knows how to do this right.

Thanks in advance,
Stefan.

It works only with MkII because \placefloatcaption isn’t yet rewritten for the

[NTG-context] bibmodule acquired problem

2011-09-25 Thread Meer, H. van der
I used the following macro for typsetting literature references in footnotes.
It worked without problems until now, but then I didn't use the bib module for
some time.
It looks like a problem has crept in with the inproceedings type.

the macro setup:

\usepublications[literature]

\def\bibentrypar{\def\bibentrypar{\par}}%
\unskip\footnote{\processcommalist[#1]\bibentry
\doifnotempty{#2}{\bibentryspace#2\strut\par}} }

It fails for the following entry:

\pubyear{1992}
\arttitle{{DES is not a group}}

But it works ok when inproceedings is replaced by book.

[NTG-context] [Layout] Problem with ConTeXt mkII

2011-09-25 Thread Pierre-François Bonnefoi
Hello,

I use extensively ConTeXt for my work as a teacher.

I run into this problem :

I've defined the following layout for giving work for my students :

\setuptolerance[verytolerant,stretch]
\setuppapersize[A4][A4]

\setuplayout[
backspace=3cm, topspace=1.5cm,
rightmargin=0cm,leftmargin=1.3cm,
width=15cm,
leftmargindistance=0.2cm,
height=26.7cm,
header=0cm, footer=1cm
]

\definelayout[1][
topspace=5.2cm,
height=23cm, textheight=22cm]

\definelayout[2][reset]

The purpose is to give some space on the first page to put a layer with a big
title (it's for a document full of exercices, an example could be found at
http://ishtar.msi.unilim.fr/uploads/media/Reseaux_I_TD_1_2011_2012.pdf).

But, after having the correct layout for the first page, the second page gives
me a reduced textheight : the text don't flow on the lower part of the page.

That could be explain as the textheight variable is not computed for the second
page.

This is very annoying.

I've found a workaround by using the same layout for the whole document and put
some blank lines on the first page.

I use the following version ConTeXt ver: 2011.05.18 18:04 MKII fmt:
2011.8.31  int: english/english.

Thank you for your help,
Pierre-François.

Thank you for taking a look at this. Too bad your solution is only
MkII. The document I'm currently working on is to be written in APA
style and unfortunately the frame around figure+caption is required...
I'm not really interested in changing to MkII... ;) I hope there can
also be a not too involed solution for this in MkIV.

\setupfloats[frame=on,frameoffset=1mm]

\starttext

\section{A figure with a background}

\placefigure
  {none}
  {\placelegend
 {\externalfigure[mill][scale=2000]}
 {\placefloatcaption[figure]{A dutch mill}}}

\stoptext

It works only with MkII because \placefloatcaption isn’t yet rewritten for the
new MkIV code.

Re: [NTG-context] Missing booktitle in incollection bib-entries

 I have an @incollection-entry with booktitle set in a bib-file used in
 a ConTeXt document. Unfortunately there is no \title, generated from

 from the bib-key title, is present. Guess it's a bug(?)

Hmm, can't reproduce here. Here's what I'm using:

file test.tex:

\setupbibtex[database=test]
\starttext
\cite[ernst1989anisotropy]
\placepublications[criterium=cite]
\stoptext

file test.bib:

@incollection{ernst1989anisotropy,
  title = {Averaging of anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility data},
  author = {Ernst, R. E. and Pearce, G. W.},
  booktitle = {Statistical Applications in the Earth Sciences},
  editor = {Agterberg, F. P. and Bonham-Carter, G. F.},
  note = {Paper 89-9},
  pages = {297--305},
  year = {1989},
  publisher = {Geological Survey of Canada}
}

produces the following test.bbl:

\setuppublicationlist[samplesize={EP89},totalnumber=1]

\startpublication[k=ernst1989anisotropy,t=incollection,
a={{Ernst},{Pearce}},y=1989,
n=1,s=EP89]
\artauthor[]{R.~E.}[R.~E.]{}{Ernst}
\artauthor[]{G.~W.}[G.~W.]{}{Pearce}
\pubyear{1989}
\arttitle{Averaging of anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility data}
\editor[]{F.~P.}[F.~P.]{}{Agterberg}
\editor[]{G.~F.}[G.~F.]{}{Bonham-Carter}
\title{Statistical Applications in the Earth Sciences}
\pages{297--305}
\pages{297--305}
\pubname{Geological Survey of Canada}
\note{Paper 89-9}
\stoppublication

... and the PDF shows both the article and book title. This works with
MkIV 2011.02.25 and 2011.09.20.

Re: [NTG-context] math signs in itemize

2011-09-25 Thread R. Ermers
Thanks for all advices!

I solved the problem, at least partially.

I now use \usetypescriptfile[type-gentium]
For some reason I have to change the signs in the unnumbered lists.

My one and only math item -- $\frac1{40}$ -- does cause a problem though.
Apparently there is no math fallback.

Any suggestions?

Regards

Robert

Hard to say without an example.

Any suggestions?

Use text mode fractions! \frac{1}{40}.
