Re: [NTG-context] Problems with linespacing

2011-11-05 Thread Jan Heinen
As a newby I am already able to do lot's of nice things with
ConTeXt -

but I am struggling with some basics: fonts and linespacing.

Ok ... I have to learn more than I thought :-)

1. Where can I find the typescript for aller? Or do I have
to write my own typescripts?

2. As a second font I am using Linux-libertine ... is there
a typescript for this font anywhere too?

Jannis

Works here too, MacOSX 10.7.2.
That is, I installed the latest context beta.

If it might help: I have a directory ~/TeX/context containing the following two
files:

contextbeta
Description: contextbeta

first-setup.sh
Description: first-setup.sh

and in the directory ~/TeX/context/tex/texmf-local (actually a link to my own
stuff).
Installing is done by cd'ing to ~/TeX/context and calling contextbeta.

A next version will support

\inmargin[reference=test2]{test} test \at[test1]

\stoptext

but this does nothing as clever as the annotation code as it's just a
basic page reference to the blob that ends up in the margin.

Just noticed this ... works in the latest beta!

Hi,

I use also Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2 with TeXShop 3.06 and everything works
perfectly, both mkii and mkiv from the Minimals (everything is also fine when
invoking context from the command line in Terminal). However I never succeeded
using mkiv from TeXLive…
Maybe you could say how you typeset your files in ConTeXt?

Hello there.

While exporting the ellipses are completely lost. Is there a workaround
for cases like that (I have the feeling this is the top of the iceberg)?

The following minimal example should be clear enough:

Which leads to:

[NTG-context] formula placement

2011-11-05 Thread Meer, H. van der
I find I get a fairly large whitespace after the formulas placed with:
   \placeformula\startformula \stopformula
How can I reduce this? The wiki does not give a parameter description for
\setupformulas. In the code I can only find some [distance=] parameter. But
using it with for example \setupformulas[distance=-10pt] scored no visable
effect.

Where do you got the font files from, I checked the version from fontsquirrel
 [1]
and dalton maag [2] and saw that both use different file names and in my
ypescripts I used the names from fontsquirrel.

You are right - my aller und my libertine were from other
website with diferences in the naming.

Now I have them from font-squirrel and cpan.

\setupbodyfont[aller] is now working.

But your example above for the typescript does not work:

 \start \setupalign[right,broad]\definedfont[file:allerlt*default at
36pt]\setupinterlinespace
Ich bin Blindtext. Von Geburt an. Es hat lange gedauert, bis ich begriffen

wird man gar nicht erst gelesen.

Aber bin ich deshalb ein schlechter Text? Ich weiss, dass ich nie die Chance

 \stoptext

I don't get allerlt and also no 36pt. Error-message while compiling:

fonts defining font with asked name 'allerlt' is not found using lookup
'file'
fonts defining unknown font allerlt, loading aborted

I hope someone knows an answer.

Regenerate the font database with “mtxrun --script font --reload” and try it
again.

How can I reduce this? The wiki does not give a parameter description for
\setupformulas. In the code I can only find some [distance=] parameter. But
using it with for example \setupformulas[distance=-10pt] scored no visable
 effect.

\setupformulad[spaceafter=…] % default: big

The space after key accepts all parameters from \blank

Regenerate the font database with “mtxrun --script font
--reload” and try it again.

That was not successful.

However, I changed your code a bit and now it seems ok:

When I use:
   \definedfont[name:allerlight*default at 36pt]

instead of:
   \definedfont[file:allerlt*default at 36pt]

then it works.
Changed:
   file: - name:
   allerlt - allerlight

Do I still use type-aller? Or did I destroy the connection
to the typescript with my changes?

Maybe important? The aller-files are ttf not otf.

\definefont and \definedfont don’t use the typescript but context’s database
where all recognized fonts are listed.

A typescript is simple spoken a list where you specify which file should be
used for the regular, italic or bold alternative and with a typescript file
these settings are available as module which can be reused for different
document without putting the code in each document, all you need is a
referenced to the file.

Maybe important? The aller-files are ttf not otf.

Both versions I found are also in truetype format but it doesn’t matter which
format the fonts have because context supports both and a truetype font can be
also a opentype font.

Maybe you could say how you typeset your files in ConTeXt?

I use TeXShop 2.43 (which, incidentally, tells me, when I check for updates,
that it is the newest version available.) with an engine that reads:

#!/bin/bash

source /Users/robertblackstone/context-minimal-04-11/tex/setuptex
context $1

This works on another Mac under OSX 10.6.

The log file when I try to typeset the .tex-file mentioned in the first
sentence below is very brief:

The argument
/Users/robertblackstone/Dropbox/C-tests/Initials/Initials-test1.tex is not a
valid TEXROOT path.
(There is no file
/Users/robertblackstone/Dropbox/C-tests/Initials/Initials-test1.tex/texmf/tex/plain/base/plain.tex)
...ne/context-minimal-04-11/tex/texmf-osx-64/bin/mtxrun:10769: cannot open
/Users/robertblackstone/texmf/tex/symb-uni-zapf/: Permission denied

I have no idea what the folder symb-uni-zapf does in my texmf/tex directory.
Should I perhaps thrash it? (I cannot change its permissions.)
And there is indeed no file:
/Users/robertblackstone/Dropbox/C-tests/Initials/Initials-Test-1.tex/texmf/tex/plain/base/plain.tex
but why should there be one?

Thanks also to Wolfgang Schuster and H. vd Meer for their quick replies that,
though not offering an immediate solution, reassured me that I will eventually
be able to use mkiv on this Mac.

Regards,

Robert Blackstone

 aller aller /Users/wolf/Library/Fonts/Aller_Rg.ttf

Was my fault: I had installed both versions of aller: from
daltonmaag and from font-squirell.
I think that caused a conflict. I now deleted the
daltonmaag-version and the typescript is running well.

Linespacing is still not working in every case - I try a
little bit more, maybe I find my error ... otherwise I start
another thead.

Could it be that Lion is not yet supported? (mkii seems to work OK)

Your log implies that you are using TeX Live 2011, not TeX minimals.
You can try which context. Also, it seems that you have a folder
   /usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/symb-uni-zapf
without permissions to read it.

But later on you sent a different log.

[NTG-context] Two frames side by side?

2011-11-05 Thread Alasdair McAndrew
I want two frames side by side: the left frame comprising just text (and
some displayed formulas), and the right hand side frame some high level
computer algebra code. The right hand side will have a gray background,
and will consist mainly of typeset equations separated by horizontal lines.

I can get the two frames looking just right, but no matter how thin I make
them, they display one under the other, not side by side.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Alasdair
