Hi Brendan,
I once had similar problems running ConTeXt (LuaTeX) behind my Django
server (gunicorn or FCGI behind Nginx).
In my case it was some strange permissions problem of the calling
process.
I could only avoid it by changing my process manager from daemontools
to supervisord.

Actually decibel is an odd one, a logarithmic unit, so prefixes other than
deci are never used. However the implementation is no problem.

 - ad 2: no looking back (would demand an extra correction pass
 elsewhere, maybe some day)

Here I meant just space within the argument to \unit{}. It seems to be
handled correctly now ...

 - ad 8: manipulating the input this way is somewhat beyond the purpose
 of a typesetting system

(Normalisation of numbers and unit prefixes). OK, just seeing where the line
was to be drawn. However, in the code a comment notes the possibility of
automatic conversions to imperial units, which is a step even further, actually.
Personally I don't think it's a good idea. [Or the b-grade movies].

 - ad 9: much will be configureable; see mkiv file for an example of
 defining extra units (\registerunit [units] [point=pt, basepoint=bp]);

Works, although

 - I myself am not going to look in all kind of other tex stuff that lays
around as it's up to users/usage what is added, given that it fits into
the model of context; we have the old units modules as starting point

That was a note to self, but any takers ...

I attach a (much shorter) bunch of test cases (source and pdf again).

Thanks,

Robin

[NTG-context] page number in margin

2011-11-27 Thread Henning Hraban Ramm

Hi again,

I’d like to get my page numbers in the margin.
This works:
\setuppagenumbering[alternative=doublesided,location=margin]

But that way it’s on the bottom of the footer margin; I'd like it on
the top.

Second variant: Even better, I’d like my page number at the bottom of
the text margin. How can I achieve that?

location option marginedge doesn’t seem to do anything, as far as i
can tell, and inright is the same as margin.

you need to install inkscape (just google for it) as well as zip (often

[NTG-context] strange behavior with apa and apa-fr bibliographic styles

2011-11-27 Thread Alexandre Krispin
Hello,

I have noticed that, for a reason I don't understand, dots after dates in
the bibliography are not placed in the same manner. For example, I get
(copy-paste from pdf) :
Morales, I. (1997) . The mexican crisis and the weakness of the NAFTA
consensus. Annals of the American Academy of Political and Social Science,
550 :130-152.
Morales, I.(1999). NAFTA : The governance of economic openness. Annals of
the American Academy of Political and Social Science, 565 :35-65.
Robey, J. S. (1999) . Civil society and NAFTA : Initial results. Annals of
the
American Academy of Political and Social Science, 565 :113-125.
Totman, C. (1980) . From Sakoku to Kaikoku. The Transformation of Forei-
gn-Policy Attitudes, 1853-1868. Monumenta Nipponica, 35(1) :1-19.

So for the first entry, the point after (1997) is placed after a space,
whereas it is not the case for the second entry (there is also no space
between I. and (1999)). In some cases (when I add more entries), I even
have the point before the parenthesis, though the bib file might be right
(or in any cases, since the field are completed in the same manner, I
didn't expected different behaviors in the result since it is automatized
and all fields are articles).

Here is the bib file :

[NTG-context] Graphics in text-line

2011-11-27 Thread Robert Blackstone
Dear list,

Would it be possible to insert a tiny graphic, not larger than a capital M,
into a textline?

I am presently making a bilingual version of a sixteenth century French musical
treatise, and I would like to copy as much as possible the typographic features
of the original in the modern version, both French and a translation.
In the original French edition some text lines contain musical symbols, not
only the sharp, flat and natural characters but also some others, of which I
can make graphics (png or pdf).
I can place these praphics in the margin and even in a footnote (although with
rather too much space above it) but I would prefer to have them in their text
line.
Is that doable?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Robert Blackstone

I can place these praphics in the margin and even in a footnote (although
with rather too much space above it) but I would prefer to have them in
 their text line.
 Is that doable?

 \starttext
 This is a cow \figuresymbol[cow].
 \stoptext

More control about the height gives you this method:

\defineexternalfigure[inline][height=1.8ex]

\starttext
This is a cow \externalfigure[cow][inline].
\stoptext

Re: [NTG-context] Columnsets: bug in current beta?

2011-11-27 Thread Jaroslav Hajtmar

Hello Peter.
I have a similar experience. If image width is greater than the width of
one column and at the same time is a picture with the caption then text
does not wrap around the image. If the picture is without caption (for
example \placefigure[btrl,none]{}{...}) then everything works fine.
I deal this with emergency so that the caption I incorporate into the
PDF picture and then place figure without caption.

Jaroslav

Dne 26.11.2011 22:29, Peter Park Nelson napsal(a):

Hello,

Following the example in the Columns manual, the following works with
TeXLive 2011 but not with the current context suite beta (25 nov 2011):

\definecolumnset[body][n=2]
\definecolumnsethsize{body}{1}{1}\One
\definecolumnsethsize{body}{1}{2}\Two

\starttext
\startcolumnset[body]

\dorecurse{5}{\input tufte\par}

\startbuffer
\placefigure[btlr]{A placeholder
figure.}{\externalfigure[widefigure][width=\Two]}

\stopbuffer

\dorecurse{5}{\input tufte\par}

\getbuffer

\stopcolumnset
\stoptext

Using the current beta, the figure only cleanly spans one column --
vertical space for the graphic and caption is reserved in one column;
in the other column, text flows on beneath the graphic, which is
superimposed.

Using TeXLive 2011, the wide figure spans both columns correctly.

Thanks,
PPN

Hans
Thanks for the hints.

I downloaded inkscape but but still get the same error message. I'm not
too concerned about that just now. Unfortunately I couldn't find zip so
I played about with 7-Zip and managed to get the script to work. It's
still work in progress since I'm not sure I have the switches right but
I edited the epub generation part of mtx-epub.lua to look like this:

os.execute(format(7z a -tzip -mx0 %s %s,epubfile,mimetype))
os.execute(format(7z a -tzip %s %s,epubfile,META-INF))
os.execute(format(7z a -tzip %s %s,epubfile,OPS))

and using a simple css file I can view the test epub in Adobe Digital
Editions.

I'm used to using Sigil to edit ePubs and Context but luatex is all new
territory for me.

Thanks

[NTG-context] Resetting references or local references?

2011-11-27 Thread Otared Kavian
Dear all,

Is it possible to have a sort of « local references for formulas » or else to
clear previous references to formulas at a certain point?
In a chapter where a certain number of exercices and formulas are to be
numbered, assume I have the following minimal example

% begin
\starttext

Exercice 1. Prove that if $ab=ba$ and $2ab=0$ then
\placeformula[eq:1]
\startformula
(a+b)^2 = a^2 + b^2.
\stopformula
Using the identity (\in[eq:1]) prove that $(a=b)^{2n} = a^{2n} + b^{2n}$.

\blank[big]
\hrule
\blank[big]

Exercice 2. Prove that for any integer $n$
\resetnumber[formula]
%\reset[formulas][references]
\placeformula[eq:2] % I would like the reference to be [eq:1]
\startformula
(\cos(x) + {\rm i}\sin(x))^n = \cos(nx) + {\rm i} \sin(nx).
\stopformula
Using the identity (\in[eq:2]) % I would like here to say [eq:1]
 compute $\cos{3x}$.

\stoptext
% end

I would like to be able to have the equations numbered within each exercise
(which is in fact defined through an enumeration environment), and be able to
have the reference to each formula « local » within that exercise.
The resaon is that the execises and problems may have several equations which
are referenced to with [eq:1] through [eq:10] (say…), and have been prepared
and given previously to students on independent sheets. When I want to give out
a booklet of all the exercises, then it would be handy to have such a feature.

I understand that I am not being very clear… Hope someone would understand what
I mean and need :-)

Best regards: OK

All I want to do is to make the font small, italicized, and not start

location option marginedge doesn?t seem to do anything, as far as i

 Dear list,

Would it be possible to insert a tiny graphic, not larger than a capital M,
 into a textline?

I am presently making a bilingual version of a sixteenth century French
musical treatise, and I would like to copy as much as possible the
typographic features of the original in the modern version, both French and
 a translation.
In the original French edition some text lines contain musical symbols, not
only the sharp, flat and natural characters but also some others, of which I
can make graphics (png or pdf).
I can place these praphics in the margin and even in a footnote (although
with rather too much space above it) but I would prefer to have them in
 their text line.
 Is that doable?

 \starttext
 This is a cow \figuresymbol[cow].
 \stoptext

More control about the height gives you this method:

\defineexternalfigure[inline][height=1.8ex]

\starttext
This is a cow \externalfigure[cow][inline].
\stoptext
