[NTG-context] Math typesetting problems

2013-01-27 Thread Janne Junnila
Hi all,

I've run into a couple of problems with math typesetting. (I'm using the
latest ConTeXt standalone beta.) The following doesn't print [x,x] at all:

\startformula
[x,x]_t = x
\stopformula

It can be fixed by using \left[x,x\right]_t, but I find the behaviour weird.

Another problem I have is related to the positioning of minus signs in
front of fractions. I would expect the minus sign to align with the
horizontal line of the fraction, as it does on LaTeX. Below is an example
formula to illustrate my point. The result seems to be independent of the
font in use.

\startformula
-\frac{e^{\frac{4}{5}}}{4}
\stopformula

This is because \startformula can take one optional argument in square
brackets, and [x,x] is interpreted as that argument. You can make
\startformula stop looking for [...] either by telling it to `\relax`,
or by giving it an empty `[]` of its own to chew on.

\startformula[]

\startformula\relax

I can't quite find at the moment what sort of options the [...] can

It takes the same options as \switchtobodyfont

[x,x]_t = x

Hi Janne,

With \dfrac it looks good.
With \fraction the minus sign is on the top of the fraction.

Add \setuptolerance[verytolerant] or \setuptolerance[stretch] (or both settings

[NTG-context] Footnotes numbering

Is among you somebody who has used text with footnotes, where the footnotes

In other words how to use line numbers for the numbering of the footnotes?

Any hint would be great!

You can use the line numbering and line note mechanism.

It works (of course it does!). Now I can create a funny booklet with
 my MetaPost twiddlings. :-)

A 9-page version (3x3) would also be nice to have, to make slightly
bigger pages when printed on A4.

How do you plan to fold this?

I had to try it out on paper, but it turns out I had understood the
text correctly: the same idea, but only two cuts.

Top row, left to right: 1,2,3
Middle row, left to right: 6, 5, 4, all upside down
Bottom row, left to right: 7, 8, 9

Cuts 1-2/6-5 and 5-4/8-9. The cut paper is like letter S (or a snake
or meander, whatever you wish to call it). When folded, the back page
remains blank because it is from the underside of the paper due to the
odd number of pages - not necessarily a bad thing. I can always slap a
copyright sticker or signature on that back cover...

For trial I took an A4 and cut off the bottom to make it square that
makes quite nice 7x7 cm pages. Not handy for continuous text, but for
short poems/thoughts or graphics/art it work out. I need to play
around a bit, but then I can post the results in my blog. :-)

 Thank you,

By the way, for the stand alone version under TeXworks, the bin folder
information should go before those of TeX Live to avoid problems.

In TeXworks one needs to be careful about paths in either case. (But
then again, there's the same issue with basically any GUI program that
runs TeX. PATH usually needs to be set up separately from the shell.)

Re: [NTG-context] Suppress a Single Chapter from ToC

2013-01-27 Thread Troy Henderson

Unfortunately, this removes the PDF bookmark for this chapter. I would
like to keep the left side bookmark but not show it in the Table of
 Contents.

What I would like is to have my title page followed by my table of contents
both have PDF bookmarks and neither listed in the actual table of
contents. Currently, I'm (badly) faking it by

\startchapter[title={Title Page},list={\mbox{}}]
   ...
\stopchapter

\startchapter[title={Table of Contents},list={\mbox{}}]
   ...
   \placecontent[criterium=all]
\stopchapter

This does create bookmarks for both pages, but it creates a very narrow
link to these pages on the ToC page. I don't want any evidence of those
chapters listed on the ToC page.

Re: [NTG-context] Suppress a Single Chapter from ToC

2013-01-27 Thread Troy Henderson
I apologize for the multiple messages, but it seems that I solved my
problem with

\placebookmarks[chapter,section,subsection][chapter,section][force=yes]

The force=yes was the key to forcing bookmark generation of those
chapters not listed in the ToC with saveinlist=no.
