Hans,

Can you explain in a bit more detail about when \startparagraph is needed.

Is it needed to generate properly tagged paragraphs in a tagged pdf
document, or is that tagging done by other means?

Under what circumstances is it useful?

Re: [NTG-context] PDF/A no longer compliant?

2018-11-02 Thread Leo Nikkilä
I tried PDF/A a while back and noticed the XMP header has an extra byte
order mark which validators flagged as “??”.

I’ve attached the patch I used to remove it, however I’m still on an old
version of ConTeXt so this might not apply cleanly to yours.

You might need to open the patch in a hex editor to see the difference in
the two lines as most text editors will not show the BOM.

The example file in the wiki  (at https://wiki.contextgarden.net/PDF/A)

https://www.pdf-online.com/osa/validate.aspx complains:

It that’s what you need, then \useURL is the way to go.

For me, writing two commands to use an URL only once is mostly too much.

non tested (just see the apart on the FFT) .
A (stable) luaffi could resolve the luatex side of the binding
and being lua code is more easy to adapt if the target API changes.

it's the context ml, enable system commands is default (and we are still
here :-) . Anyway ConteXt has a sandbox too. )

But yes, the
--safer disable easily exploitable lua commands
   --[no-]shell-escape disable/enable system commands
--shell-restrictedrestrict system commands to a list of
commands given in texmf.cnf
are part of the picture. Hans and I have to discuss this point.

Just to say: on my linux box, xetex from the official deb package has not
hb hardcoded:
# ldd `which xetex `
linux-vdso.so.1 (0x7ffcb26d2000)
libharfbuzz-icu.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libharfbuzz-icu.so.0
(0x7f5fe89c5000)
libharfbuzz.so.0 => /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libharfbuzz.so.0
(0x7f5fe8727000)
Even if I set all the paranoia flags, xetex will load these shared objects.
With a luaffi things doesn't change, the point is that luatex will load the
libs only when/if the user (script) will to do.
Of course, the xetex from texlive is statically compiled ... well almost. I
still see freetype as shared object.
Anyway, as I have said I am now focused on this issue now because I would
like to complete/fix it for the next texlive.

(to be honest: I think that all these safer shell-* switches are a bit
outdated nowadays, but they are there and I don't think they will disappear
. )

IIRC, it is possible to 'whitelist' programs in texmf.cnf so that
`--shell-escape` is not needed. I believe this is how the automatic eps to
pdf conversion in latex works.

When you use \useurl in combination with \url or \from you can define
them in a environment file. To make themeasier to handle you can use a
separate environment file only for the urls.

\setupinteraction[state=start]

\useurl [garden] [https://wiki.contextgarden.net/] [ConTeXt garden]

\starttext

\url [garden]

\from[garden]

\stoptext

You can also avoid this two step method when you use the \goto command
with the url keyword in the second argument.

\setupinteraction[state=start]

\starttext

\goto{\hyphenatedurl{https://wiki.contextgarden.net/}}[url(https://wiki.contextgarden.net/)]

\goto{ConTeXt garden}[url(https://wiki.contextgarden.net/)]

\stoptext

Well we (some of the latex team) tried to test this as we have quite
an interest to have an option to use harfbuzz for some fonts but not
every code needed seems to be available publicitly.

Also if I remember correctly this requires --shell-escape and this

Anyway, I am talking of dll/so plugin and tool,

It's always nice and useful to have an "orthogonal way " to do things, more

I am planning to play with a harfbuzz plugin to check them (sort of tool)
,
with the ongoing stability of the lua api in luatex it makes sense a
luaffi binding
but luaffi is not stable (yet)
(ok, due lack of time could be that I use the filter module and the hb
