Hello Taco,

thank you so much. - Indeed this looks good! The option with 
‘verytolerant,stretch’ works but does not look that nice, some words are really 
far from each other…
So the way to go is “{r2l,right}”

Either use:

\setupTABLE[column][2][align={r2l,right},width=42mm]

or:

\setupTABLE[column][2][align={r2l,verytolerant,stretch},width=42mm]

since a bare ‘r2l’ is like “normal” except for the writing direction.

[NTG-context] Cross references to column numbers

Dear list members,

how can I create cross references to column numbers?

I have a two column layout with column numbers in the header instead of 
page numbers (actually, these column numbers are calculated from the 
page numbers). Now I want to create a cross reference that returns the 
column number of the target. How can I achieve this?


Of course, I can get the page number with \pagereference (for the 
target) and \at (for the reference), but for calculating the column 
number (according to what I did in the header), I would also need to 
know whether the target is in the left or in the right column, and I 
can't see how I can get this information.

Besides, I am wondering, regarding the generally very regular and 
consistent naming of commands in ConTeXt, why this is not so in the case 
of references. For example, to refer to a page, I need \pagereference 
(for the target) and \at (for the reference); to refer to a line, I need 
\someline (for the target) and \inline (for the reference), but only if 
I want it to automatically add the word "line" or something else before 
the number, otherwise I have to use \inlinerange. It took me some time 
to find that out. Wouldn't it be easier to have just one command for the 
target and another one for the reference, and everything else, as 
counters and headers to be returned, text to be added etc. to be 
configured by options?

my brother is studying Ifrith and wants to have a dictionary. The idea is to 
typeset left German and right Ifrith in a /bTABLE…\eTABLE environment.

When trying to typeset the Ifrith text is not broken into lines correctly i.e. 
it is leaping into the cell reserved for the German text. — How to correct this 
behaviour?

texexec is only for Mark II (8-bit pdfTeX, XeTeX) which has been
frozen for years now.
lmtx is only for Mark >= IV (new version of LuaTeX), so texexec no
longer makes sense there and anything needed to run it is also
missing.

Support is only provided for Mark IV and later.

[NTG-context] texexec is deprecated?

Hi all,

I did a quick standalone install of Mark IV:

```shell
mkdir ~/context
cd ~/context
wget http://minimals.contextgarden.net/setup/first-setup.sh
sh first-setup.sh --modules=all --context=current --engine=luatex’)
```

Set the correct paths and env in `~/.bashrc':

```shell
# Add ConTeXt
platform=osx-64
PATH=~/context/bin:~/context/tex/texmf-$platform/bin:$PATH
source ~/context/tex/setuptex

export PATH
```

(By the way, the latest lmtx installer is missing the `setuptex' file.)

I was able to use `context’ but not `texexec’. The latter (`texexec —pdf 
test.tex’) tells me that some format file (`cont-en.fmt’) can’t be found.

Is `texexec’ obsolete?

The 2013 ConTeXt manual still uses it, though.

Very enlightening!

I’ll just use both MetaPost and SVG for their intended purposes. (SVG will come 
from workflow involving GIMP/Inkscape; MetaPost for logical, rather than 
graphical, figures.)

it can convert postscript to metapost.
So svg->pdf->ps->mp seems to be possible.
Of course, I am not sure if it fits in  your workflow.

SVG (and Inkscape) can do many graphical things that metapost can not do, so I 
think that would be a bad idea even if there was a tool that could do the 
conversion for some subset of SVG.

That said, SVG is just an XML format, so it should be possible to process 
simple SVG using ConTeXt’s built-in xml parser (with suitable processing 
environments, of course). How much work that would entail and whether it is
feasible depends on the actual SVG graphics.

Is it possible to convert SVG to MetaPost?

Currently, I have Bash scripts in my workflow to invoke Inkscape (converting 
SVG to PDF). I don’t like to allow shell access to TeX.

If I can convert SVG to MetaPost, I will gladly Git-track MetaPost files 
instead of SVG files. That will do away with having to convert SVG into PDF 
(via Inkscape).

...

and inserting a \blank before the \stopplaceintermezzo.
