I suspect this is either a switch you turn on in ConTeXt, or something 
that would still need to be implemented as a feature.

not supposed to use (plain) TeX commands in LaTeX, while it is or was 
much more usual in ConTeXt.


 Writing my book I have users of text processors (Word/LibreOffice) 
and layout applications (InDesign etc.) in mind, even if I assume 
that most readers (if I’ll ever publish it...) will come from LaTeX.

I don't really know anything about git, so I can't give my opinion about 
what is or isn't convenient to do. Certainly to report bugs in my text I 
don't think it takes anything more than an e-mail to send them to me. 
Having a repository can be useful to keep a version that is always up to 
date; but that, on the other hand, would force me to be continually 
modifying the text, which in principle is not my intention. I do not 
exclude that there will be other versions in the future, but for the 
moment this is not part of my plans. And if there were other versions, 
it would be more to add some chapter; mainly I think that the most 
important material that is missing is the one related to XML, Lua and 
Metapost, that is: the three additional languages in which a ConTeXt 
document can be written. But I am far from being able to write anything 
about any of those three aspects. Some member of the list has offered to 
help me with it, but not immediately (we all have a lot of work).


The original idea, I think, was to provide a platform that would allow 
different collaborators to translate the text into different languages. 
Whether or not git is the best solution for that purpose, I really don't 
know.


What I would appreciate is that guide on "how to set up a documentation 
translation project with git? that Garulfo proposes.

I think we need to be really clear about what we want to achieve here.

1) Is it just making the source plus the PDF available for download? If so then 
there are plenty of simpler ways to do that than using Git.

2) If it is to gather feedback on things like typos then we don't need Git. For 
example I spotted a missing ']' in the English translation so all I need is a 
way to submit a 'bug report' not access to the source.

3) So what is left? To provide a way for translators to be notified of changes 
to the original? To provide a collaboration mechanism for significant changes 
to the document?

I don't see that Git adds much in the way of value unless Joaquín and the 
translators are already very familiar with it -- because the learning curve is 
very steep and recovering from mistakes (made to the repository itself rather 
than to the document content) can sometimes be extremely difficult.

GFS Heraklit
(https://greekfontsociety-gfs.gr/_assets/fonts/GFS_Heraklit.zip [direct
link].) defines Greek c2sc and smcp for grek{dflt} (as displayed by
FontForge [which I read as: default language and Greek script]).

Adding script=latn works with latest from 2020.12.30 16:45. Altough it
shouldn’t, since it would requiere Greek script for the Greek glyph
substitution.

That trick doesn’t work with latest from 2021.01.05 10:45. Either
script=latn or script=grek. And so are the glyph substitutions I get.

Sorry, but shouldn’t script=auto work for both?

I don’t know what I am missing or whether I hit a bug.

[NTG-context] Randomize order of blocks

Hi Hans,

many thanks for your new release with the experimental feature.

I get a compilation time decrease from 64s to 58s in one of the
documents I have.

Unrelated to this, I’m afraid that the current latest doesn’t like my
definition of small caps and I don’t get them (either with or without
experiments) in many documents.

But I know I have to provide a sample that displays the issue.

It isn't. It's one of the properties that gets assigned to glyphs so 
individual glyphs can be told either or not to kern, make ligatures, 
protrude, expand, tweak dimensions, etc.


There is some more new glyph juggling, like

\def\UnKernedTeX{T{\glyph xoffset -.2ex yoffset -.4ex `E}{\glyph 
xoffset -.4ex options "C0 `X}}


\dorecurse{100}{ x \UnKernedTeX}

as well as some scaling features. All to be applied and integrated in 
due time.



By the way, the ligature suppression mechanism via \startexceptions is already 
implemented, correct? If yes, it should now be possible to convert the existing 
wordlists to the new format, right?


Maybe, but not (yet) on the agenda. My priority is now with some font 
stuff.

The  reference site treccani says

 Calendario o., quello formato da 12 o 6 fogli contenenti ciascuno uno o
due mesi con i giorni disposti in colonna, che si appende alla parete.

So, a wall calendar with 12 or 6 sheets, each one within one or two months,
but the canonical form is  with  12 sheets  with the previous month on the
left, the current month at the center and the next month on the right,
each one with the days in a single column.
Of course there are now many variations, but the canonical form is the
better one.
I don't know the origin of the term.

I probably didn't mention this yet but the way to deal with ligature and
kerning prevention in lmts is:

because this feature can be used local and because it actually has more
granularity than advertised, I added this in the next version

(so, specific commands for left/right control). Or course one can wonder
how useful it is, but because tex is all about control ...

Being Dutch, I never realised there was such a thing as a “Dutch calendar”. 

These are just calendars? What makes them “Dutch” from an Italian viewpoint?

When I still used paper calendars, I wrote a script (Perl, later ported to 
Python) to generate calendars with arbitrary information – international 
holidays, birthdays, fairs & other long-term dates... – and ConTeXt (MkII) 
templates for the planner sizes of myself, my girlfriend and a general A4 one. 
Daily, weekly, monthly and year overview pages possible.

Since three of my planner pages fit on one A4 sheet, Willi provided a 3UP 
arranging pattern.

I don’t know if it would make sense to use that old code for something new.

Hi,

A new version has been uploaded. This one has:

  \enableexperiments[fonts.compact]

for the brave to test.

As a reminder, as this has been around for a while now, if you really 
want to stress your test, run with (top of file):


  \overloadmode 4 % error
  \overloadmode 3 % warning

in order to see if you (re)define primitives, core functionality, 
instances and whatever can lead to conflicts. There are still some 
commands to be tagged (and for some the category might change) but it's 
a bit of a tedious job.


Btw, for metafun the warnings are enabled by default (for now), but 
users might have noticed that already.

and you get an idea (\meaningfull itself is a primitive, the more 
verbose \meaning, and there's also \meaningless which I let you figure 
out yourself; of course these add two primitives to the repertoire).
