[NTG-context] Horizontal spacing

2022-11-21 Thread Steffen Wolfrum via ntg-context
Hi,

these line can modify the space between words:

\installtolerancemethod
{horizontal}
{MySpace}
{\spaceskip2.75pt plus1.60pt minus1.10pt\relax}

\setupalign[line,block]\setfalse\raggedonelinerstate% kein hz=expansion mehr?
\setuptolerance[MySpace]

But how can I adjust in general the horizontal distance between glyphs (I don't
mean \kern, I am looking for a general setup)?

This does not open the right link.

At least on my machine nothing happens when clicking on «litteraturbanken.se

(And it looks as the link was cropped, only reads the first line?)

[NTG-context] never add a hyphen to break a URL

Hi,

according to the Chicago Manual of Style we should «never add a hyphen to break
a URL»:

Is there a switch to forbid \useURL adding hyphens?

[NTG-context] Hyphenation in multi-language projects

2022-09-12 Thread Steffen Wolfrum via ntg-context
Hi,

please have a look at this minimal example.

The idea is to set the hyphenation for certain words regardless of the language
that is used in the surrounding paragraphs.

In this example it should stay: «steff-en»

How do i set this to all non-english paragraphs (without using \hyphenation on
each language-switch)?

Best,
Steffen

ok, this minimal example works.

but for other reasons (lots of heading with various vertical spaces)!) I also
need \setuplayout[grid=tolerant]

\setuplayout[grid=tolerant]% this kills the smaller interlinespace

\defineinterlinespace[steffen][line=4.2ex]

\starttext

\dorecurse{2}{\samplefile{lorem}\par}

\start
%\setuplocalinterlinespace[line=4.2ex]% wrong header alignment
\setuplocalinterlinespace[steffen]% correct header alignment
\dorecurse{4}{\samplefile{lorem}\par}
\stop

\dorecurse{2}{\samplefile{lorem}\par}

\stoptext

Any idea how to preserve the smaller interlinespace?

[NTG-context] ugly bug

2022-06-01 Thread Steffen Wolfrum via ntg-context
Hi,

several times I got problems with my publishing house when they noticed that
the headerlines jump up and down on pages that end/begin with qoutes (i.e.
smaller interlineskip), see example below: on page 1 the blackrule is about 1mm
higher than on page 2.

In the past I then used really laborious workarounds to get these single pages
in the correct way (without jumping)… manual pagebreak, re-define layout etc.

But as the pages are hard to find it would be better that the layout would be
reliable consistent.

How can this be solved?

Best wishes, Steffen

Re: [NTG-context] arm osx

2022-05-29 Thread Steffen Wolfrum via ntg-context
Hi,

the first, clean install of MacOS ARM64bits I downloaded from
https://wiki.contextgarden.net/Installation

Next I followed the thread below (exchanging texmf-osx-64/bin to
texmf-osx-arm64/bin) and everything works like a charm (ConTeXt ver: 2022.01.21
20:13 LMTX) !

Today I wanted to update, using
sh install.sh

After that, running the same TeXShop engine as before gives an error:

Users/steffen/Library/TeXShop/Engines/ConTeXt LMTX_ARM.engine: line 3: 19971
Killed: 9
/Users/steffen/context-osx-arm64/tex/texmf-osx-arm64/bin/mtxrun --autogenerate
--script context --autopdf "$1"

What did I do wrong?

ok. but why does this run fine

\starttext

Test \spaceskip = 1.0pt plus 1pt minus 1.5pt Wolfgang

\stoptext

while this ends in an error message?

\starttext

Test \spaceskip = 1.0pt plus 1pt minus 1.5pt Matilda

Wow, this sounds interesting. Is there an example of how to use multiple values?

Before I posted my initial posting «randomizer line-breaking» I already spent
days and weeks boiling down this phenomenon. Unfortunately the random output
made it impossible for me to make a smaller, but *working* (i.e. showing the
bug) example. It just appears sometimes, sometimes it doesn't – in between two
runs I changed nothing: «As you can imagine, I can't provide a minimal example
for this, only the entire project-folder and the entire context-standalone.»

So my hope was that Hans (and Wolfgang et al.) know how things are chained
together.
For example: Which ConTeXt command uses randomizer? I have no idea what goes on
behind my user interface. Others maybe do.
Another example: The problem only appears when using start-/stopexceptions. Is
there a connection between exceptions and random output on the level of low
level code, maybe?

Steffen

not that I know of.

I searched through both, the project folder and my modules (in context
standalone), both «random» nowhere was to be found.

perhaps I incidently use a command that utilizes random... what could this be?

Besides plenty of numbers that differ, there are also entire lines that differ:

One frequent difference for examples is line 2 (macros) and 3 (randomseed) in
this:

utilitydata.job.variables.collected={
["macros"]={},
["randomseed"]=0x1.c14cd54cp-1,
["sectionblockorder"]={ "frontpart", "bodypart", "backpart" },

Another difference that pops up 1000 times is this line
["used"]="fit",

in situation like this:
utilitydata.structures.references.collected={
["02"]={
 ["*101"]={
  ["metadata"]=678,
  ["references"]={
   ["block"]="bodypart",
   ["internal"]=102,
   ["prefix"]="02",
   ["realpage"]=16,
   ["reference"]="*101",
   ["section"]=3,
   ["used"]="fit",
   ["view"]="fit",
   ["x"]=25526152,
   ["y"]=36448045,
  },
 },

Does this help?

PS: The entire problem began when I started using hyphenation-exceptions...

[NTG-context] randomizer line-breaking

2021-06-08 Thread Steffen Wolfrum

Hi Hans,

is there some kind of randomizer involved in line-breaking?

I have a 458 pages project, a book of humanities.

When I immediately typeset (engine=luatex) it a second time, the resulting PDF
differs on 14 pages, diffpdf-compared to the original PDF
when I typeset it a third time, the resulting PDF differs on 7 pages,
when I typeset it a forth time, the resulting PDF differs on 12 pages,
when I typeset it a fifth time, the resulting PDF differs on 0 pages.

"differs" means that there a paragraphs (mostly footnotes, rarely in the main
text) that show different line-breaking: This doesn't mean wrong hyphenation,
just *different* hyphenation, different each time.

As you can imagine, I can't provide a minimal example for this, only the entire
project-folder and the entire context-standalone.

Steffen

Ok. Each run now creates 4 additional files:

file_name-tuc-02.tmp
file_name-tuc-03.tmp
file_name-tuc-04.tmp
file_name-tuc-05.tmp

This minimal I ran with «ConTeXt ver: 2021.06.04 17:28 MKI» and got two PDF

One «test.pdf» as expected and one called «test-pdf-keep.pdf».

What's the reason behind this double feature?

[NTG-context] math bold not bold-italic

2013-08-19 Thread Steffen Wolfrum
Hi,

I need upright, bold math. Like in this example the lambda:

\usetypescript[type-vista.tex]
\setupbodyfont[cambria,rm,12pt]

\starttext
This is \fontname\font

${\bf λ}= 1$

\stoptext

But it always gets bold-italic!
What is the correct way to get bold math?

Thanks, Steffen

of course there is upright bold greek in the font!

\setupbodyfont[cambria,rm,12pt]

\stoptext

... there is a bug in math bold, no?

[NTG-context] mathvariant bold NOT bold-italic

2013-06-16 Thread Steffen Wolfrum
Hi,

as far as I have understood MathML, elements tagged with mathvariant=bold
should be set upright bold, not bold-italic.

Could this be corrected, please?

Thank you very much!

 You can change the separator between the section prefix and the formula
 number with \setupformula[prefixconnector=-].

 Is there also a key for a own prefix, eg. my: (my-1)?

 It’s not a prefix but you can set a labeltext.

 \setupformula[prefix=no]
 \setuplabeltext[formula=Steffen-]

 \starttext
 \chapter{Chapter}
 \placeformula
 \startformula
 c^2 = a^2 + b^2
 \stopformula

nice, thank you.
i was looking for a key within setupformula, and didn't think of formula within
setuplabetext!

usually it is possible to break long formulas.

But is there a way to do so, when formula is coded in mathml (see example

 You can’t use \startbuffer … \stopbuffer in other commands but with \setbuffer
 there is a command which can be used here.

 \sym{\setbuffer … \endbuffer\processxmlbuffer}

great, thanks. but this immediately gives the next error: invalid xml file -

[NTG-context] Including section number in reference broken

2013-03-17 Thread Steffen Wolfrum
Hi,

in October 2011 Marco asked how to get an output like this:

I Foo
A Bar
subsection I.A

The example he posted (see below) came to this result:

I Foo
A Bar
subsection A

Then Wolfgang added this line:

\setupreferencestructureprefix[default][prefixsegments=2:*]

But running this advice with todays beta does not have any effect one Marcos
original example, and it does not lead to the desired ouput.

Is this broken now?

 It’s a bug in the formula numbering. Natural tables perform three runs on the

great, yet another bug hunted!
and what can be done (on the short-run) to avoid increasing?

is there a handy command to manually count down by two?

[NTG-context] math formula linebreak

Hi,

for nice linebreaking we can adjust math formulas by the use of NC, NR

But if someone only wants long formulas to fit in a defined area, and want them
to break automatically ... is there a handy solution?

(Below are examples that don't work)

Thanks,

 When I needed something like that, I used \allowbreak with inlinemath. In
 your case, you could do:
 \bTABLE[frame=on,align=right,width=10cm]
 \bTR
 \bTD
 $I=\big\{\lambda u(x_0-\pi^H K)\allowbreak+(1-\lambda)[\pi^L
 u(x_0-K+(1-\pi^L)Z_{L'})\allowbreak+(1-\pi^L)u(x_0-\pi^L
 Z_{L'})]\big\}\allowbreak -\big\{\pi^U
 u(x_0-K+(1-\pi^U)Z_{U'})\allowbreak+(1-\pi^U)u(x_0-\pi^U Z_{U'})\big\}.$
 \eTD
 \eTR
 \eTABLE

 This will just flow it like regular text. I don't know if this is good enough
 for your needs. If not, you can add another way to your list of ways ;-).

Hey, you skipped start/stopformula and used a $$ environment?!
Why not, that's a quite clever approach (... actually, it's a quite efficient
workaround for my needs).

Thank you Prash, thank you very much!

[NTG-context] alternative=d gives attr

Hi,

\starttext
\subject{Contents}
\setuplist[section][alternative=d]

while the minimal example above works nicely, my more complex project adds a
attr in front off the section number (ie. a):

attr a) Test one 47 attr b) Test two 51

Any idea where this attr2 comes from, and how to get rid of it??

Second question: how can I add a separator, like this:

a) Test one 47  –   b) Test two 51

Yes numbercommand, that's it!

I wanted command=\NumberCommand with \def\NumberCommand#1{\rightaligned{#1}}

yes, please! I am very interested in more information on this, as I expect hard

the problem is that more and more our context PDF files are not used as print

there main use tends to be as feed material for Flash and other applications

On Mac I tested with different viewers (AcrobatPro, AcroReader, Mac's Preview):
all give the same correct behaviour.

On Win7 I tested with Acrobat: false.
the strange thing here is, when I look at the bookmark's properties, they show
the correct page number as target action. Only when pressing the link, the
result gets plus one!

[NTG-context] japanese spaced

2012-05-10 Thread Steffen Wolfrum
Hi,

if a paragraph is set to align=block the space between words can be stretched.

If eg. a japanese word is mentioned in such a paragraph the space between the
japanes characters gets spaced/stretched too (see example attached).

This may be right for japanese texts, but it is wrong if the main/surrounding
language is not japanese (and thus no additional space between characters is
wanted).

What is an easy way to avoid this?
\definestartstop [Japaned] [commands={\language[jp]\DoNotSpace}]??

Do I have to add/change something now?

 Bug, or has the syntax changed?

 no, just something 'not done yet' (but will be done asap, some setup
 synchronization code needed)

Is there meanwhile a context version that provides way=... again?

 What doesn’t work?

 \setupnotation[footnote][way=chapter]

 \starttext

 \chapter{One}

 text\footnote{One: first} text\footnote{One: second}

 \chapter{Two}

 text\footnote{Two: first} text\footnote{Two: second}

 \stoptext

ah,
\setupfootnotes[way=bychapter]
didn't became
\setupnote[footnote][way=bychapter]
but
\setupnotation[footnote][way=bychapter]

good to know ;o)

 ah,
 \setupfootnotes[way=bychapter]

 \setupnote[footnote][way=bychapter]

 That would make no sense because \setupfootnotes is defined as
 \def\setupfootnotes{\setupnote[footnote]} which means both are the same setup.

 \setupnotation[footnote][way=bychapter]

 The footnote counter is created by \definenotation (which is called when you
 create a new note with \definenote) and the fore you need \setupnotation to
 change it.

ok, interesting

thanks a lot!

 Hi,

 it's probably a rare case: URL with comma.

 Just by chance I found that these URL kill hyperlinks when interaction is

 not at all, as between [] there can be a list of actions to be done, in your

 \goto{\hyphenatedurl{www.spiegel.de/spiegel/0,1518,288433,00.html}}[{url(http://www.spiegel.de/spiegel/0,1518,288433,00.html)}]

ah that's the reason, of course.

thanks a lot for your reply!

This woks, ie. changes \about output too.
But how can I be sure I changed *only* \about output?
