Re: [NTG-context] book

2018-12-21 Thread Andrea Valle
Thanks Thomas,
actually that was easy and I guess not very interesting. I just scanned the
very different XXth century outputs and inserted them as images.

I did some much more complicated stuff (notation generation) with a mix of
technologies e.g. here, ConTeXt as a document wrapper:

Dear all,

I’m typesetting a book, and I have many figures on white background.
I’m scaling figures using something like this

\placefigure[][volumina]{G. Ligeti, {\em Volumina}.}{
\externalfigure[img/chap02/11][width=\textwidth]}

is there a way to plot text boundaries so to check by eye if they’re contained
inside it?

Thanks

[NTG-context] chapter number

2018-11-06 Thread Andrea Valle
Dear all,

I have a simple issue I can’t solve.
I have chapters in a book, and I have placed a foreword before.
I’d like not to have the number in the foreword, and to start the numbering
with the first chapter.

I followed this
https://www.contextgarden.net/Titles#Unnumbered_titles_in_table_of_contents
<https://www.contextgarden.net/Titles#Unnumbered_titles_in_table_of_contents>

and I have been able to remove numbering from the first chapter, also from TOC.
Fine.

I am not able to reset chapter numbering, my first chapter starts still with 2.

How can this be done?

I'm using for first chapter

\startchapter
  [title=Overview of Notation Semiotics]
  []

Thanks

Concerning structure: yeah, thanks Alan, I used it. I think I had some issues I

actually this works in my chapter but I have a book made up of various chapters
coordinate by a main.tex file
containing general setting and  e.g.

\input c_1_semiotics.tex % chapter

etc

if I place

\completelist[figure]

in the main
it does not work

[NTG-context] list of figures

2018-09-14 Thread Andrea Valle
Dear all,

I have a very simple question.

How do I get a list of figures?
I have figures placed with e.g.

\placefigure{S. Reich, {\em Piano Phase}.}{
\externalfigure[img/chap01/2][width=\textwidth]}

I tried \showexternalfigures[alternative=a]

it gives me back no list and this on the body text
[alternative=a]

Thanks

Dear list,

I have a question which is really basic. MacOSX here.
I looked at the wiki, but the whole matter is a bit far from my knowledge.
Is there a way to use system fonts? I *think* I remember something like
simpletypescript package

Thanks, sorry for the dumbness

[NTG-context] \copypages and page numbering

2016-12-20 Thread Andrea Valle
Dear all,

I’m assembling into a unique pdf the proceedings of a conference.
They have been created by various sw (latex, word, writer etc).
In order to include the papers, I’m just using a series of commands like

\copypages[CIMXXI_contributi/dapelo][][scale=950]

They are not provided with page numbers, and I’m including them in the usual
way.
Now, most of the time it just works.
All the papers should conform to a template, but in some cases, page numbers
are not displayed, and this depends on the fact that the page setup in that
paper has a greater height (or maybe a different crop area), so that it covers
the page number.
I would simply solve the problem by having the page number on top of the
imported pdf.
Is it possible?

Many thanks

Alas, I won’t be here (but sooner or later I might chime in)

I’m fond of the abstract by Taco on snakes.
Let me just provide a historical background. Jacovitti has always solved the
issue of white space by filling it with snakes, worms, but (most of the time)

Manuals are cool, but I always miss the big picture that would allow me to

[NTG-context] orphan headline

2016-05-26 Thread Andrea Valle
Dear all,

I’m finishing a book, and getting the following undesired result.
Many times I have section or subsection title at the bottom of a page, with no
text. Text starts on the next page.
I have looked at

http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Widows_and_orphans_control

but I wasn’t able to solve.

I guess it could depend on the formatting of my headlines. Here they are:

\setuphead[section]
[style=\ss\tfa,
before={\blank[0.5cm]\startframedtext[offset=0.25cm,framecolor=black,
rulethickness=0.01cm, frame=off, topframe=off,
bottomframe=on]\crlf},after={\stopframedtext\noindentation\blank[1cm]}]

\setuphead[subsection]
[style=\ss,
before={\blank[0.5cm]\startframedtext[offset=0.25cm,framecolor=black,
rulethickness=0.01cm, frame=off, topframe=off,
bottomframe=on]\crlf},after={\stopframedtext\noindentation\blank[1cm]}]

thanks

[NTG-context] starting a chapter on odd page

2016-05-11 Thread Andrea Valle
Dear all,

in the book I’m finishing I’m using a structure like this

\starttext

\input c_preface.tex

\input c_chapter1.tex

[etc]

\stoptext

where each .tex file contains

\startchapter[various options]
\section{First section}
etc
\stopchapter

The publisher is asking me to start each chapter on a odd page. Can I do it by
setting some options?

Thanks!

[NTG-context] headline and no indent

2016-05-09 Thread Andrea Valle
Dear all,

I’m finishing a book in ConTeXt. The publisher is pretty happy with the results.
But he asks me:

When opting for paragraph indents, paragraphs following directly after a
headline should no show the indent.

I guess that the first line of chapter/section/subsection should have no indent.
Hmm, how to get this?

For  chapter/section/subsection
I have e.g.

\setuphead[chapter]
[style=\ss\tfc, before={\blank[1cm]\startframedtext[width=local,
foregroundcolor=black, background=color, backgroundcolor=bgGrey1,
framecolor=bgGrey2,offset=0.25cm,
rulethickness=0.05cm, frame=off, topframe=on,
bottomframe=on]\crlf},after={\stopframedtext\blank[4cm]}]

Is there an available option to be set?

Many thanks

this works

 You have to change only the value of the height key.

  begin example
 \showframe

 \starttext

 \input knuth

 \page

 \setuplayout[height=10cm]

 \input knuth

I looked also at \setupfootnotes but it says:

Start numbering from 1 again at the start of every section?

BTW on mkiv, so I guess I should use \setupnotation

 1. This part is missing in your example below.

 2. To end a paragraph insert a blank line or use \par.

Ah! Never known about that! My fault

 \mainlanguage[it]
 \language[it]

 You don’t need \language here because \mainlanguage already loads the italian
 hyphenation patterns, the \language
 command is only used in the content of your document when you want to load
 different hyphenation patterns.

Yeah, I put it because I (still) get in Terminal:

languageslanguage 'en' is active

is it relevant? I had some issues with hyphenation

Re: [NTG-context] language in bibliography

2014-10-10 Thread Andrea Valle
I’m using a solution kindly provided by Robert Blackstone.
I have included the bbl file in my source, then I use this basic mechanism.

\section{Riferimenti bibliografici} % by hand
\nocite[zaffiri2007]
\placepublications[criterium=cite]

(which is fine for me)

I get:

Zaffiri, E. (2007). Music/Technology, chapter Raccolta di articoli (1964-2003),
pages 133–191. Firenze: Firenze University Press.

(rather than “capitolo” and “pagine” or whatever in IT)

Thanks

 There is a example on the wiki. You have to set your own values with the

 the roc you have to write your own layout where you access it with the
 \structurelistuservariable command.

 Andrea,

 If you can accept the author's name on a separate line in the toc and also a
 little less automation than the example that uses user structure variables,
 you might consider the \writebetweenlist command. In addition to the wiki
 entry (which is incomplete with respect to the parameters), see the recent
 email thread with the subject Chapter precis. The following may be a useful
 starting point:
 \starttext
 \completecontent
 \chapter{This is a chapter}
 \writebetweenlist[chapter][location=here]{\hskip4em\it Author Name}
 \input ward
 \section{A section}
 \section{Another section}
 \chapter{Another chapter}

Re: [NTG-context] splitting bibliographic references

2014-09-30 Thread Andrea Valle
Thanks Robert.

 It probably depends on whether you cite your bibliographic references in the
 text of your essay, or only a part of them.

I’m working now on the bib files, so I can consider having a single bib for all
essays, or split bib files (maybe cleaner).

 What I would do anyway is to make a subsection or a subject “References
 after each essay, add the references that I have not cited in my text as
 \nocite[key] and finish with  \placepublications[criterium=cite].

Hmm, I’m tweaking a test like this, but I’m getting a single ref section on
top, including both citations.

\setupbibtex[database={cim2014template},sort=author]
\setuppublications[alternative=apa]

\starttext
this is a test\cite{malham19953d}
\placepublications[criterium=cite]
\page

% readd or not? Doesn't change
\setupbibtex[database={cim2014template},sort=author]
\setuppublications[alternative=apa]

Now another\cite{SoDAICMC}
\placepublications[criterium=cite]

\stoptext

 I should perhaps add that I always process my projects without using the
 bib-module. I separately make the necessary .bbl-files, which I linput before
 \starttext. It gives me a lot of flexibility.

Could you provide a minimal example?

I’ve never used ConTeXt for this, and I’m a bit stuck

Thanks a lot!

[NTG-context] splitting bibliographic references

2014-09-29 Thread Andrea Valle
Dear all,

I’m working on a project for a book that is a collection of essays.
Each one needs at its end a list of references.
Of course I’ve started from here

http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Bibliography_mkiv

But how can I force context to take into account only a portion of text for
generating bibliographic references and for inserting a block of references
after a section?
(To collect all refs in a single bib file or to have split bib files is not an
issue)

Thanks a lot,

[NTG-context] [+-OT] reducing pdf file

2014-06-05 Thread Andrea Valle
Dear,

I made with NodeBox software a large vectorial image (I can export in pdf).
the idea is to use it as a cover for a ConTeXt project.
The problem lies in its size: 220 Mb.
Could anyone provide a method (if any) for reducing the size?
The image is made by a combination of many small pdf images, so I guess that
the resulting size depends on linear combination of all images size,
that are preserved (sorry, I’m an ignorant on the pdf format).

Thanks a lot

Re: [NTG-context] structure Mk II vs IV

2014-02-25 Thread Andrea Valle
OK, I think I tracked it down

this works:

\setuphead[chapter]
[style=\ss\tfc, before={\blank[1cm]\startframedtext[width=local,
foregroundcolor=black, background=color, backgroundcolor=bgGrey1,
framecolor=bgGrey2,offset=0.25cm,
rulethickness=0.05cm, frame=off, topframe=on,
bottomframe=on]\crlf},after={\stopframedtext\blank[4cm]}]

but these two raises the error:

\setuphead[section][style=\ss\tfb,
before={\startframedtext[frame=off]\color[cirmaGrey]},
after={\color[cirmaBlue]\textrule \color[fontColor]\stopframedtext}]

\setuphead[subsection][style=\ss\tfb,before={\startframedtext[frame=off]\color[cirmaGrey]},
 after={\color[cirmaOrange]\textrule\color[fontColor]\stopframedtext}]

  \color[colorname]{text}

 is valid but you use \color without the text. To fill the missing argument
 context uses now the following command after \color or in some cases internal
 macros.

I see now, it’s here: http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Command/color

 Another thing which doesn’t work in MkIV are these lines:

 \definetypeface[tSCIRMA][rm][Xserif][Palatino]
 \definetypeface[tSCIRMA][tt][Xmono][LM Typewriter Regular]
 \definetypeface[tSCIRMA][ss][Xsans][Optima]

Yeah, I had already replace with simplefonts module

Ah, so I was a bit mislead by the wiki. Actually I hace this.

\usemodule[simplefonts][size=8pt]
\definefontfamily [myfamily][serif][TeX Gyre Termes]
\definefontfamily[myfamily][mono][LM Typewriter]
\definefontfamily[myfamily][sans][Avenir]

\setupbodyfont[myfamily]

You mean that I simply don’t need \usemodule[simplefonts][size=8pt]?

Akira Kakuto suggested me this:

Please add a line

that fixed my problem, which is related to the texlive distro according to

[NTG-context] context with mavericks: broken

2013-11-18 Thread Andrea Valle
Dear,

long time since I have posted to the list but still a dedicated ConTeXt user…

Now, I’ve upgraded to Mavericks. No way to use ConTeXt.
I’ve also installed texlive 2013 and I installed the available updates.
But still my ConTeXt is broken (I’m typesetting from TeXShop via GUI menu).
I always get this:

/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/2.0/usr/lib/ruby/2.0.0/rubygems/core_ext/kernel_require.rb:45:in
 `require':
/usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf-dist/scripts/context/ruby/base/switch.rb:501:
invalid multibyte escape: /\xFF/ (SyntaxError)
from
/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/2.0/usr/lib/ruby/2.0.0/rubygems/core_ext/kernel_require.rb:45:in
 `require'
from
/usr/local/texlive/2013/texmf-dist/scripts/context/ruby/texexec.rb:11:in
`main’

I can understand it has something to do with ruby but nothing else.

?

Many thanks

Best

Re: [NTG-context] including pdf

2011-02-21 Thread Andrea Valle

Hi Aditya,

thanks for your reply and sorry for my late reply, I've been kidnapped
by another work...

I'd go with the layer solution.
But I don't know to insert a layer for each pdf page.
Could you please provide some hints?

Thanks a lot

Ok, let's reformulate partially

If I have:

\setuppapersize[A4]

\setuppagenumbering[location=left, state=start]

\starttext

\copypages[pdf/Test.pdf][scale=1000]

\stoptext

Looking at the resulting pdf, it seems that the original pdf is
mirrored (apart from half a line at the bottom of the paper,
trunked).
Ok. But there are not page numbers (I guess they are coverd by the
imported pdf)

You can add a layer on top and set page numbers in the layer.

Now, so sum up my problem is:
- given a certain number of A4 pdf
- how to collect them in a unique pdf
- with successive page numbers
- and with refs, so that I can automagically create a TOC

For a quick solution, you can try the cut-n-paste module[1]. It does
not create a TOC, so you will have to do that by hand (or a helper
macro).

\usemodule[cut-n-paste]

\newcount\colledpages

\definecutNpaste[collection]
[n=1,text={\setups[page]},location=(OverlayWidth/2,1cm)]

\startsetups[page]
 \doglobal\increment{\collectedpages}%
 \collectedpages
\stopsetups

\starttext

\processcollection[name=paper1.pdf]
\processcollection[name=paper2.pdf]
\processcollection[name=paper3.pdf]

\stoptext

The location of the text is controled by the location key. This can
be any valid metapost coordinate.

The module is actually meant for convert two column pdfs to one
column pdfs (for reading on an ebook device), so it an overkill for
just merging pages. You can however control how many pages to
insert, (using start and stop keys), and draw a grid on the page
(grid=yes), and trim the page (more complicated).

But, as I said earlier, the simplest way is to just insert the page
number in a layer.

Re: [NTG-context] including pdf

2011-02-02 Thread Andrea Valle

Ok, let's reformulate partially

If I have:

\setuppapersize[A4]

\setuppagenumbering[location=left, state=start]

\starttext

\copypages[pdf/Test.pdf][scale=1000]

\stoptext

Looking at the resulting pdf, it seems that the original pdf is
mirrored (apart from half a line at the bottom of the paper, trunked).
Ok. But there are not page numbers (I guess they are coverd by the
imported pdf)

Now, so sum up my problem is:
- given a certain number of A4 pdf
- how to collect them in a unique pdf
- with successive page numbers
- and with refs, so that I can automagically create a TOC

Thanks, best

Re: [NTG-context] HOWTO: Typesetting Poetry in ConTeXt

2010-09-15 Thread Andrea Valle
I totally agree. My experience with ConTeXt is that I can obtain
incredible results. But I have to dig into docs, typically with no
much hope, and at the end I ask the list. The solution is typically
cut and past from a guru's email :-).

Definite write such a tutorial. I think ConTeXt is lacking such

You can add the following at the top of your file: CAVE! this works

[NTG-context] layer problem

2010-09-07 Thread Andrea Valle

Hi to all,

I'm using this code to insert a page from pdf into a layer:

\enableregime[utf8]
\mainlanguage[it]
\setupinteraction[state=start]
\setupcolors[state=start]
\setuppagenumbering[state=stop]
%%% Colors %%%

%\definepapersize [flyer][width=99mm, height=210mm]
\setuppapersize[A4][A4]
\setuplayout [width=fit,
  rightmargin=0cm,
  leftmargin=0cm,
  leftmargindistance=0pt,
  rightmargindistance=0pt,
  height=fit,
  header=0cm,
  footer=0cm,
  topspace=0cm,
  backspace=0cm,
%  cutspace=1cm,
  bottomspace=0cm,
  location=singlesided]

\starttext
\definelayer[layer0]

\setlayer   [layer0]
[x=0,y=20cm]
{\rotate[90]{\externalfigure[prog.pdf][page=3]}}

\setupbackgrounds[page][page][background=layer0, state=repeat]

\strut
\stoptext

Now, the only problem is that the y=20 parameters doesn't affect the
output. But I have a 20cm printed into the pdf.
It's exactly the structure I'm using for many other projects. Where it
works fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks a lot

Re: [NTG-context] The ConTeXt book

2010-04-03 Thread Andrea Valle

the 2 cents of a lurker :)

if the knowledge is in my head, how come that wolfgang can answer
most questions (and if he couldn't we'd have a real problem as at
least i have not more time)

Actually, I don't need so much documentation (well, it's never enough
indeed), I'd say I need a tutorial to be able to know how to get
documentation.

Maybe how to browse code source.

This is just my experience, for what it worth: I always find very good
recipes, and fast help by this wonderful list on specific topics, but
I don't feel to be able to really generalize my knowledge.
It's easy to have good stuff with ConTeXt, much more complicated to
make it do what you want.

Maybe I just need some good lectures I missed. So maybe I need pointers.

Best and thanks for your work

I would suggest MacTeX 2008 + minimals.

I have both, with manually slightly updated ConTeXt in MacTeX 2008.
MacTeX is nice since it always works (includes LaTeX and dozens of
fonts and other packages that might be missing in minimals) and you
have a backup system in case that the latest alpha in minimals gets
broken.

I have this in ~/.bash_profile:
#. context/tex/setuptex context/tex

and I keep commenting/uncommenting it as needed (or just execute that
line in bash). The nice thing about minimals is that it doesn't
interfere with other TeX distributions, so you can have it installed
in parallel and it doesn't take too much space when compared with TeX
Live.

You need some additional hacks to get the minimals working in gui
applications. Oliver started writing an installer that could simplify
matters a bit, but got stuck with some external bugs at some point and
didn't publically release anything yet.

Re: [NTG-context] specific document layout with ConTeXt

2008-12-28 Thread Andrea Valle

PS: In your environment file you have

\setuplayout[
  header  = 0pt,
  footer  = 0pt,
  headerdistance  = 0pt,
  footerdistance  = 0pt,
  top = 1.125in,
  topdistance = 0pt,
  bottom  = 1.125in,
  bottomdistance  = 0pt,
  leftedge= 0.85in,
  rightedge   = 0.85in,
  height  = fit]

ConTeXt will silently ignore all of this. You must not have space
between keywords and options. Write this as

I've been using context, on and off, for 5 years and I did not know
that!

I understood that after many testings. I think it should be specified
very clearly in docs.

Re: [NTG-context] off-topic : about smultron

2008-10-07 Thread Andrea Valle

Dear Dalyoung,

Sorry,I don't know. The only thing I've noticed is that Smultron
refreshes its result window after compilation is completed and not
while compiling, I guess it's a matter of piping. So, sometimes there
a relevant lag and I have to wait a bit in order to look at what has
happened.

Dear all,

I hope that you understand a little bit off topic question.

Recently, I installed smultron and set it up to use ConTeXt Minimals
following the instruction in ConTeXt wiki.
Basically it worked.
But the command result window didn't properly show what is going on
during the compilation.
But it appeared some time but it didn't some other time. I couldn't
figure out when it did and when it didn't.
Even in the case that it showed the result, it didn't refresh after I
compiled the same file again.

Does some one help me to fix it?

Thank you.

Best regards,

Re: [NTG-context] smultron editor with ConTeXt also usable with MacTeX-TL?

2008-07-23 Thread Andrea Valle

Hi Joachim,

Might it be worthwile to use Smultron (instead of TeXShop) as
editor also with the Mac-TeX-TL installation which I have?

Well, it's just a matter of taste: i.e. If you like Smultron more
than TeXShop.

#!/bin/sh

This means that Smultron must calls to use bash shell, i.e. it's like
using Terminal

cd /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/
. /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/setuptex /Applications/
ConTeXtMinimals/tex

cd %%d
texexec %%p

These lines are the ones you would write into Terminal, with some
special syntax (%%d, %%p) allowed by Smultron.
(Please note that I'm pretty an ignorant about Smultron editing
capabilites)

As far as I'm able to look after it, my TeXLife installation is
located in:

/usr/local/texlive/2007
with ConTeXt scripts in:
/usr/local/texlive/texmf-local/tex/context

But I don't dare to adapt the Smultron configuration above without
confirmation or alternative instruction ...

Well, you can try with no risks. Create a new command, try with to
change the paths, if everything is wrong you simply delete the command.

No problems at all.

Or have I to decide wether to continue to use ConTeXt in MacTeX-
TeXLife with TeXShop _OR_ to install Minimal-ConTeXt and use it
with Smultron?

I have opted for Smultron so that I left my TeXLive distro (TeXShop
included) untouched.

That was the rationale behind choosing Smultron.
In the future (if sooner or later someone explain me how to use
fonts) my plan is to use Smultron+Minimals, leaving TeXShop+TeXLive
only for LaTeX (for paper proceedings)

Re: [NTG-context] OpenType beginners question

2008-07-21 Thread Andrea Valle

Really, let's try to update/increase docs.

I'm sorry, I know I'm asking other people to work for me.
To be clear, I'm quite grateful to devs and helpers (and I'd really
like to come to Bohinj...), but IMHO it does not make much sense to
keep on posting code snippets without giving general infos on what's
going on.
So that people simply copy and paste them without understanding
what's going on. Is it working? No Ah, then try with this etc

It's pretty evident that fonts are a problematic issue.

At the moment, I'm blocked with the project I have to develop for
university. Waiting for light.

Re: [NTG-context] fonts (in luatex) (again)

2008-07-15 Thread Andrea Valle

Still, can't have this font stuff working...

(which I do not understand: but that's another story)
I have saved the file under the same folder of tex file I'm
working at

3. then I have called: context --generate

3.1. Generate name entries for the font database

To access fonts with the name you have to create the database
with the entries:

mtxrun --script font --reload

where should I be in order to run it? I have not set the env
variables, I'm using this kind of approach:

cd /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/
. /Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/setuptex /Applications/
ConTeXtMinimals/tex

4. In my tex file I have added:
\usetypefile [delicious]
\usetypescript[delicious]
\setupbodyfont[delicious]
5. while compiling I'm having a problem with delicious.
Log attached

Make a test with the fonts and the files in the same directory.

This does not work. It aborts because of delicious not found.
But if I put the type-delicious.tex file in
/Applications/ConTeXtMinimals/tex/texmf-context/tex/context/base/
then run
mtxrun --script font --reload
I have not errors, but the used font is not delicious (I guess it's LM)

When this did not work access the fonts by filename and not by
fontname, to do thos you have to replace name: by file:,
this is unproblematic for the delicious fonts because fontname
and filename are equal.

Does not change anything

Thanks

You only need the second command. cd is not needed. Once you issue
. /Applications/CM/tex/setuptex /Applications/CM/tex
you should be able to run both
mtxrun --script font --reload
mtxrun --script font --list
Maybe try to run
luatools --selfupdate
luatools --generate
before that.

Ah, ok, it sets up the path for the session.
Done. The list does not include delicious as far as I can say, and
the total is the same as before (161)

 not delicious (I guess it's LM)

Looks as if something is wrong with filename database. Does luatools
--generate solve anything?

Worse :)
Now, in both circumstances (with type-delicious in /base or in the
same folder of my test.tex file) compilation aborts.

You
need to download PC (OpenType) font, not Mac (Type1).

Ok, done, now I see that the original file names by Wolfgang matches

Apart from that, it works for me,

Yes! for me too!

but
   kpsewhich type-delicious.tex
needs to return you the file if you want to be able to use it. And

nothing, neither with luatools

kpsewhich Delicious-Roman.otf needs to return you something as well.
(replace kpsewhich by luatools in the previous sentence)

the only thing which works is:
polifilo:~ andreavalle$ luatools Delicious-Roman.otf
/Users/andreavalle/Library/Fonts/Delicious-Roman.otf

Is there a place where to put the the type- .tex files, so that they
are available without having them to include in the working folder?

Re: [NTG-context] fonts (in luatex) (again)

2008-07-15 Thread Andrea Valle

Hi

now I'm trying to use Optima.

So I assembled a type-optima.tex with this:

\starttypescript [sans] [optima]

\definefontsynonym [OptimaRegular]   [name:Optima Regular]
[features=default]
\definefontsynonym [OptimaBold]   [name:Optima Bold]
[features=default]
\definefontsynonym [OptimaBoldItalic]   [name:Optima Bold
Italic]   [features=default]
\definefontsynonym [OptimaExtraBlack]   [name:Optima
ExtraBlack]   [features=default]
\definefontsynonym [OptimaItalic]   [name:Optima Italic]
[features=default]

\stoptypescript

\starttypescript [sans] [optima]

\definefontsynonym [Sans][OptimaRegular]
[features=default]
\definefontsynonym [SansItalic]  [OptimaItalic]
[features=default]
\definefontsynonym [SansBold][OptimaBold]
[features=default]
\definefontsynonym [SansBoldItalic]  [OptimaBoldItalic]
[features=default]
\definefontsynonym [SansExtra]  [OptimaExtraBlack]
[features=default]

\stoptypescript

\starttypescript
\definetypeface[optima][rm][sans][optima][default]
\definetypeface[optima][ss][sans][optima][default]
\definetypeface[optima][tt][mono][modern]  [default][rscale=1.12]
\definetypeface[optima][mm][math][iwona]   [default][rscale=1.02]
\stoptypescript

Then, did the usual stuff.
But the pdf  from

\usetypefile [optima]
\usetypescript[optima]
\setupbodyfont[optima]

\starttext
Oh yes, I'm a test, baby

{\bf there's a little} {\em black} {\sc spot}

in the sun today
\stoptext

uses LM.
The console says:

specials   : fdf loaded
) (type-optima.tex)

...

the font file is Optima.dfont

Hello Andrea,

before proceeding any further ... where on earth did you find exactly
that font? :) :) :)

It's a resource-based Type1 font or whatever they call it. I don't
believe that LuaTeX supports such fonts at all, but maybe Taco can
correct me. XeTeX only supports those fonts when using xdv2pdf engine
(xdvipdfmx doesn't honor them). And I would say if you really wanted
to use those fonts in ConTeXt, there is a way, but hardcoded deep
down

in ConTeXt core.

Btw: with the fonts that you have sent me, the definitions should be

\starttypescript [sans] [delicious]
\definefontsynonym [Delicious-Regular][file:DelicRom]
[features=default]
\definefontsynonym [Delicious-Italic] [file:DelicIta]
[features=default]
\definefontsynonym [Delicious-Bold]   [file:DelicBol]
[features=default]
\definefontsynonym [Delicious-BoldItalic] [file:DelicBolIta]
[features=default]

% it should be features=smallcaps for normal fonts
\definefontsynonym [Delicious-Caps]   [file:DelicSmaCap]
[features=default]

\stoptypescript

But the font doesn't work with LuaTeX anyway (it could work in XeTeX),
so do not even try. The name after file: needs to match the
filename.

Ah, because I was thinking that LuaTeX was like XeTeX, where I can
use all the system fonts

So, which kind of font files should I consider?
What about font files without extension?

Thanks

Re: [NTG-context] fonts (in luatex) (again)

2008-07-15 Thread Andrea Valle

Sorry, I know I'm boring...

Now I discovered I have substantially only one latin ttf font on my
machine among the huge amount of fonts...

Doulos SIL which file is DoulosSILR

So, I'm testing with the type-doulos.tex file containg this
\starttypescript [serif] [doulos]
\setups[font:fallback:roman]
\definefontsynonym [Serif] [Doulos SIL]
\stoptypescript

\starttypescript [serif] [doulos]
\definefontsynonym [Doulos SIL] [file:DoulosSILR][features=default]
\stoptypescript

\starttypescript [doulos]
\definetypeface [doulos] [rm] [roman] [doulos] [default]
\stoptypescript

But does not work.
The fact is probably that I'm not really understanding what's going
on here.

I was reading some of the resources here:
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Fonts
e.g. Thomas' article.
http://tug.org/pracjourn/2005-2/schmitz/schmitz.pdf

The problem is that I would probably need this (as suggested once by
Aditya):

http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Understanding_how_fonts_work_in_ConTeXt
but it's pretty incomplete.

I've also looked at
http://www.pragma-ade.com/general/manuals/mfonts.pdf
but cannot really follow it.

Could anyone comment this famous piece of code?
http://wiki.contextgarden.net/Mark_IV#A_.28Complete.
29_Typescript_Example

I'd like to add infos to the wiki

Thanks

I did this interview where I just mentioned that I read Foucault. Who
doesn't in university, right? I was in this strip club giving this
guy a lap dance and all he wanted to do was to discuss Foucault with
me. Well, I can stand naked and do my little dance, or I can discuss
