ok, installed context minimals via commandline.
while i can get texlive at least running, this seems not to work with
minimals. is the usage of minimals the same as for texlive, for example
texmfstart texexec.rb --bat --nonstop --pdf --interface=en --color
test1 (setuptex.bat has been run) should process test1.tex? this
does not work, output (with --verbose) is appended.
i could not find any usage instructions, can someone give me a link?

 did not succeed, please retry.

i noticed that archives have the extension .tar.lzma on the server but
texlivemanager is looking for .tar.xz, can i do anything about that?

 that's the new compressed format

ok, but is there a way i can tell texlivemanager to search for
.tar.lzma files? or is that texlive repository only supposed to work
with texlive 2008?

 ok, this was the problem:

the math definition files are read and then the column width is
calculated which is used in a second read

as the files to be used now have the mkii suffix, no file is read and we
end up with 24 columns which is too much for tex's calculations

I now intercept that as well as fixedthe loading (to use mkii files)

[NTG-context] \showmathcharacters problems with TeXlive 2009 on Win 7 64bit

2010-02-09 Thread commb07
hi

i'm on Win 7 64bit and have installed TeXlive 2009 today via the
net-installer.

i can process context-files, but have some problems:
i get pdftex warning: pdftex.exe: no glyphtounicode entry has been
inserted yet if i use the command \showmathcharacters, and the table in
the pdf is empty.
in a more complex file i get ! Dimension too large. ..-error
additionally on \showmathcharacters, table is empty as well.

tried to get a recent version of context by directing texlive manger to
http://minimals.contextgarden.net/texlive/beta;, but no matter what i
try to update/install (by the way what should i do there?) , i get
00texlive.installation not found, cannot read option
available_architectures.
TLPDB::setting: no available_architectures, returning empty list ...
Fertig.
Executing action install 00texlive.config
[1/1, ??:??/??:??] install: 00texlive.config [1k]
Downloading

http://minimals.contextgarden.net/texlive/beta/archive/00texlive.config.tar.xz
did not succeed, please retry.

i noticed that archives have the extension .tar.lzma on the server but
texlivemanager is looking for .tar.xz, can i do anything about that?

if somebody had some hints what i could/should try/avoid, that would
help a lot..

Re: [NTG-context] auto-sizing of nested parentheses

is the third parentheses necessary ?

well, i guess you´re right, it´s not absolutely necessary because all
the expressions have indizes, so one could guess all belong to the sum.
but this way it´s clearly visible and formally precise that all
expressions belong to the sum.

What about:

$\Bigg(\bigg(\Big(\big((..).\big)..\Big)\bigg)..\Bigg)$

thanks for your reply, but i would like to have it done automatically,
not by hand; something like a switch for parentheses mode.
also i´m not sure if those \big( parentheses vary their size according
to what they surround, so i should have asked for parentheses with
sizing based on level of nesting AND what´s inside.

[NTG-context] Indentation

2009-11-27 Thread commb07

Hi @all,

i´m new to context and so far i like it a lot more than messy latex.

i try to write some mathematical proofs and have a layout in mind which
i can´t implement in a nice way:
i want to write the proofs in a tree-like structure, where a 'subproof'
for a statement is indented below the statement. it should be possible
to do this on more than five levels, for more complex proofs, and across
pages would be nice.

Example:{
The mapping f is continous, because:
   f is a linear functional:
it maps a vectorspace into its field and
   it is linear: f(a*x+b*y)=..
   =a*f(x)+b*f(y).
and its null space is closed:
   .
   .
so by theorem xy, f is continous
}

i have tried vtop, which works ok, but looks ugly, and splitting proofs
across multiple pages is a pain. is there a better way to do this?
