Re: [NTG-context] Two columns of footnotes

Denis:

Thanks, that is very helpful starting point which proves that it is
possible!

I have tried the suggestions there, but, so far:

* I cannot adjust the gap ("distance" or "gutter") between the columns
* It seems impossible to turn-on a column-separating ruled line
* It would be useful to have a method for controlling orphan / widow
behaviour (such that a footnote in the left column doesn't spill-over as
just a single line into the 2nd column).

Any comments or ideas?

I own a commercially published book that has makes effective use of
footnotes that are arranged in two columns on each page. Does anybody
know how this can be set up within ConTeXt?

hi, Max

The two suggestions don't work. I get a message, "Could not start the
command..." each time.

$ /usr/local/ConTeXt_Standalone/context-linux-64/bin/context --nofile

results in " no such file or directory " which is, indeed, the case. NB:
I have just let the installer program do its thing, I didn't manipulate
the file structure before or after. Here is what the tree looks

Re: [NTG-context] LuaMetaTeX doesn't find files when symlinked

2023-04-28 Thread lynx--- via ntg-context
Max & Hans:

I installed the stand-alone ConTeXt installation just today. It seems
like I have my $PATH set correctly now.

I have been editing ConTeXt and running it within TeXstudio. I had set
up a "user command" to execute arara on LaTeX and ConTeXt files when I
did NOT have the "standalone" version installed. It still works
correctly.

Today, I created a separate "user command" within TeXstudio, and it
points to "/usr/local/ConTeXt_Standalone/context-linux-64/bin/mtxrun"
This command generates the same log output as the example at
https://gitlab.com/islandoftex/images/texlive/-/issues/30.

If I understand this correctly, my OLD user command within TeXstudio is
still finding the TeXlive version of ConTeXt, and that TeXlive version
does have the symlinks mentioned by Max (and BTW, I did NOT create
those, they are part of the default TeXlive installation process!). This
is because my OLD "arara" command has the path to the March 13 version
of TeXlive 2023 version (installed from ISO image, with some updates
using tlmgr already installed).

Re: [NTG-context] update

2023-04-27 Thread lynx--- via ntg-context
Hello, Max:

As suggested, I have installed the "standalone" version of ConTeXt
alongside my full TeXlive installation.

Now:

* How can I be sure that the standalone version is the one being
implemented?
* How do I update the standalone version (I assume that, as of today,
it is already the most up-to-date version--Yes? No?), if and when it is
required or desired to do so?

New to conTeXt, have not performed a specific update prior to this.

My conTeXt installation is part of TeXlive-2023 (under Linux OS). Will
the updates to ConTeXt be handled by tlmgr ?

Hello, Werner:
Have you tried some diagnostic tests, such as trying to get the PDF
output via DVIPS? I suspect that you are, in fact, more knowledgeable
and experience with ConTeXt than I am, but for what it is worth you may
want to look at:

* \setupoutput[dvips,acrobat] (SEE: _Context-The Manual_ (Hans Hagen;
English, page 24))
* \showbodyfont[Options] (SEE: _Not-so-short Intro to ConTeXt (_J.
Ataz-Lopez;English, page 114))
* $ MTXRUN (mtxrun is the _ConTeXt TDS Runner Tool_) command from a
terminal window it has has a large number of options for finding the
fonts installed, and for querying their characteristics (SEE: _Fonts out
of ConTeXt _(Hans Hagen, pg 52 and ff))

Re: [NTG-context] Printing problem

2023-03-16 Thread lynx--- via ntg-context
I was able to print Mikael's PDF without any problem.

I used a HP Laser Jet Pro MFP M276WBUT I should note that I also
used the PostScript driver available from HP's Linux-specific web pages:
