[NTG-context] graphictext, mkii and texlive2011

2011-08-31 Thread richard rascher-friesenhausen

Hello,

Metafuns graphictext is broken. At least on my win 7 system. Trying to
compile

\starttext

\startMPpage
  graphictext FOO;
\stopMPpage

\stoptext

using mkii (ConTeXt ver: 2011.05.18 18:04 MKII fmt: 2011.8.16 int:
english/english) i get the following error message

(./graphictext-mpgraph.mp (./graphictext-mpgraph.mpy
! Missing argument to begingraphictextfig.
to be read again
   [
l.2 begingraphictextfig[
(1);\nlinecap := butt;\nlinejoin :=
mitered;\nfill ...

It seems, the .mpy file is broken. I use pstoedit version 3.50.

Any suggestions?

Best regards
  richard

Your example works here (Windows 7) with

mtx-context | current version: 2011.08.23 13:04
pdfTeX 3.1415926-1.40.11-2.2 (Web2C 2010)

[x] update your ConTeXt version

Best wishes, Peter
Thanks for the quick response. I installed the latest standalone version
and tried

* context graphictext.tex

This is LuaTeX, Version beta-0.70.1-2011082320 (rev 4277)
 \write18 enabled.
(graphictext.tex

This runs without complains, but the resulting .pdf file is empty (a
tiny white strip).

* texexec graphictext.tex

This is pdfTeX, Version 3.1415926-2.3-1.40.12 (Web2C 2011)

entering extended mode
(./graphictext.tex

ConTeXt  ver: 2011.08.27 13:24 MKII  fmt: 2011.8.31  int: english/english

This stops with the same error message from my first mail.

Any further suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I once tried to copy the LaTeX environment to ConTeXt. And this is, what

P.S. details.pdf uses the incorrect command
\definefloat[myfigure][figure]. And in typing the examples directly from
the text, i forgot in the first run to define the new figures with
\definefloat. Maybe one should add this to the examples?

 Defining a new float gives another floating object with its own counter,

 Maybe you can stay with only one kind of float. The following looks like
 the expected rendering, but I don't understand the default placement of
 the second large figure.

 % float defs
 %---
 \setupfloat[figure][minwidth=\rightmarginwidth,
  criterium=\rightmarginwidth,
  location=middle,
  default={outermargin,here}]

Thanks for that solution. It solves the problem with the list of
figures. But for the text+margin figures i have to look, if they are
placed on an odd or even page, to set the placing correctly. They should
always be shifted to the outer margin. But your solution avoids the
extra definition of margin images.

Do you know the meanings of the criterium. minwidth and maxwidth options
of \setupfloat and how they interact with each other and with default?

\placemarginfigure{a margin image}
  {\framed[width=\marginwidth,height=3cm]{image}}

\inmargin{Tufte text}
\input tufte

And now a larger image in the text and margin
\placetextmarginfigure{a text+margin image}
  {\framed[width=1.2\textwidth,height=3cm]{image}}

  {\framed[width=.3\textwidth,height=1cm]{text image}}

%===
\stoptext
%===
% end of file *layout-test.tex*
%===

Now, the figures are at my desired places. But i have three different
kinds of figures and three different lists of figures.

1) Is it possible, to have only one list of figures, numbering all
figures with the same counter? My first
attempts with \definecombinedlist did not work.

2) The \inmargin{Tufte Text} on the first page places the text in one
line, the same command on the
second page needs two lines! Why?

 \placefigure

  {a text+margin image}

 but the image does not move into the margin.

 Did you try copy/paste Hans code? Notice

 \setuppagenumbering[alternative={singlesided,doublesided}]

 I do not really understand what that means, but With that, the float
 go to the correct margin.

Yes, i tried the code. But the generated output is not doublesided. And
then there is no problem. Therefore i removed the option 'singlesided'
(i do not know the meaning of the combination of both either). Now the
output is doublesided. But i have to bother with 'inleft' and 'inright',
which i do not want to :-( And the text+margin image does not bleed into
the margin...

I think, there was once another post on this list, looking for a nearly
identical layout of figures. But i lost track of the postings.

Thanks for the quick response.

I have some questions about your code, because it does not fullfill all
my wishes.

The command \inmargin now correctly puts its text on the correct side on
even and odd pages. But i would like to have the same behaviour for the
figures too. In a longer script, TeX should know, if the margin image
has to be placed left or right. So 'inright' or 'inleft' is not an
option. And 'margin' does not work ... (the image is placed mostly
outside the page).
In your code, the long image on the second page does not start in the
left margin, as desired.

[NTG-context] Animations in ConTeXt

2005-05-20 Thread Richard Rascher-Friesenhausen
Hello list,

i have recently found the webpage
  http://www.tug.org/texshowcase/
with a lot of astonishing TeX typesettings. Most of all, because i was looking
for this, i was impressed by the animation possibilities of pdftex. See
'LorenzAttractor.tex' in the 'Dynamic documents' section. It is a LaTeX
implementation using a lot of JavaScript. Is something like this possible in
ConTeXt?

I'm aware of fieldstacks and step by step presentations. But i would like to
generate 'pdf-movies', especially for mathematical animations using MetaPost
as an graphical engine.

There exists also a 'solution' for plain TeX:
http://www.fi.muni.cz/~xholecek/animations/
But i had no success in generating the pdf-files from the sources. No
animation was shown.

So again. Is it possible to write something like the above animation packages
in ConTeXt (as a module)?

Thanks in advance
richard rascher-friesenhausen

[NTG-context] Enhanced Enumeration?

2004-07-15 Thread Richard Rascher-Friesenhausen
Hello,

i'm currently writing a script on biosignal analysis. And therefore i need
such things as definitions, lemmas, theorems, remarks and so on. One can
easily define numbered versions of these using \defineenumeration. But i need
two extra fetures:

first: Some theorems have names, some not. Is it possible to introduce a new
optional argument to the enumeration (a 'named enumeration')? Something like

  \startTheorem[Shannon Sampling Theorem]
You have to select $f_s\ge2 f_h$.
  \stopTheorem

to get

  Theorem 1.1: (Shannon Sampling Theorem)
 You have top select fs\ge fh.

Nevertheless it should be possible to label the theorem:

  \startTheorem[thm:shannon][Shannon Sampling Theorem]
You have to select $f_s\ge2 f_h$.
  \stopTheorem

  \in{Theorem}[thm:shannon] we have seen

Second: Is it possible to generate a content list of all named theorems?

Thanks a lot in advance
