I might add to this report the following observation: In a document with \setuppapersize [S8][S8] the shifts appear now and then, whereas these are typeset normally when the document is place on \setuppapersize [A4][A4]. It seems that the papersize and placefigure sometimes have a problem with each other. I think I can nail the responsible one.
As far as I can see the problem is tightly coupled with the following structure:
\placefigure[][]{caption}{\startcombination[]{contents}{}{contents}{}\stopcombination}
The other figures I have seem to placed well enough, the above structures
behaving erratic. I could not completely ascertain whether empty desciptions
parts in the combination-members plays a role.
I really hope this will point the way to a fast solution from the gurus ;-)
