[nysbirds-l] Mourning Warbler, Catskills

2013-06-30 Thread Bert Harris
Hi all,

We were hoping to look for breeding Mourning Warblers as close as possible
to New Jersey. Does anyone know of a reliable spot in the Catskills or
another area?

Thanks!
Bert Harris, Princeton, NJ

I think I'm convinced.  Compare these two:

Carbon copies, as far as stray marks go.

Thanks, Jacob, for putting this together.

Hi New Yorkers and Massbirders (Isn't bringing two states together FUN?!),

Comparing some photos I've seen of the Red-necked Stint such as David
Bernstein's: http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidbbernstein/9161126259/
And John Gluth's:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jgluth_brb/sets/72157634417843784/
It's obvious that the birds in the respective set of images are in the same
plumage, but if you note some of the streaking patterns on the bird's left
side, some of the streaking on the upper breast and rear flanks does seem to
match up pretty well. Chance? Possibly. Same bird, more possibly?

Good Birding,

2013-06-30 Thread Andrew Baksh
Thank you Seth for posting earlier.

Shai Mitra just called to report seeing the Red-necked Stint on the
small amount of exposed flats that are available. The tide is still
very high at Cupsogue, so exercise caution if you go.

I'll have photos posted later on my blog and I am sure others will
post theirs as well.

Good Birding!

[nysbirds-l] The New York Botanical Garden

2013-06-30 Thread editcon...@aol.com
A beautiful and productive day of birding at NYBG. My walk had 30 birders. We
ran into a puzzling sight at Azalea Way. A house wren, song sparrow, chipping
sparrow and catbird were all trying to feed an immature cowbird perched in a
tree. The cowbird had initially been spotted on the birdhouse where the wrens
were nesting.
Highlight include; cedar waxwings, warbling vireos, a rusty blackbird and
Carolina wrens nesting in the forest.

Great egret-1
Cedar waxwing-4
Chimney swift-1
Barn swallow-1
Warbling vireo-3
