[nysbirds-l] western kingbird
the western kingbird was seen this morning at about 10:15 from the upper parking lot at Captree State Park, looking northwest. It left but returned at 11 AM in the same general area as before. During its second visit, it perched in the open for about 15 minutes when it relocated a short distance to the north, still visible. it was still there when we left. [nysbirds-l] Van Cortlandt Park Cackling (YES), Baisley Pond Cackling (NO)...
The CACKLING GOOSE continues on the Parade Grounds at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx. Also present was the Inwood Park, "interesting" goose with 2 additional look alikes. I had seen the "Inwood" goose on Saturday but wanted to study it some more minus the Cross Country disturbance and I was able to do so today for a few hours. I tried to make it a 2 Cackling day by looking for the Baisley Pond Queens goose that was reported yesterday but had no luck finding it. A search of the nearby fields did not produce any geese to sift through. Sent from somewhere in the field using my mobile device! [nysbirds-l] Franklin's Gulls - Squaw Island - Buffalo 11/11/13
I did not see Jim Pawlicki's message yesterday stating that there are 2 Franklin's Gulls at Squaw Island. Both birds were present earlier at the south end of the island (i.e. the foot of Ferry St). One appeared to be in a more advanced state of molting that the other (1 was darker with a more intact hood, the other bird had a white crown). Rick Bacher, Sue Barth, Tom Kerr and Joe Mitchell were also present. I did not see a Kittiwake or Little Gull (Rick had a Kittiwake at some point - both should be in the mix).
