[nysbirds-l] Connecticut Warbler follow up

2015-09-16 Thread Rob Jett
I've posted a slightly better video and more details about the Connecticut
Warbler in Green-Wood Cemetery on my blog here:

http://tinyurl.com/p9t6hha

I don't know how the birding was in other parts of NYC and Long Island today,
but the cemetery was hoppin'!

Good birding,

Rob

[nysbirds-l] Connecticut Warbler in Brooklyn.

2015-09-16 Thread Rob Jett
I'm looking at a very cooperative Connecticut Warbler in Green-Wood Cemetery.
Actually using a headstone as a blind helps. I just tweeted a video. Anyway,
the bird is in a small shaded dell between Southwood and Vernal Aves., just
passed the new mausoleums. It is foraging in the grass beneath a stand of yew
trees.

Good birding,

Rob

[nysbirds-l] Marine Nature Study Area, Oceanside

2015-09-16 Thread syschiff
Marine Nature Study Area, Oceanside, 16 Sept

A bit of a movement (finally). Along the walk, there were a half dozen COMMON
YELLOWTHROATS, a YELLOW WARBLER, 6 PALM WARBLERS (western) and a SAVANNAH
SPARROW. In the marsh were 2 SEASIDE SPARROWS and 6 SALTMARSH SPARROWS.
Overhead a foraging NORTHERN HARRIER.

Aside from a few LEAST SANDPIPERS and GREATER YELLOWLEGS, all the shorebirds
were concentrated in the pool to the west of the pond. Shorebirds there were
mostly BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER (~30), both YELLOWLEGS, a few SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHERS and some peep.

[nysbirds-l] Connecticut Warbler follow up

I've posted a slightly better video and more details about the Connecticut
Warbler in Green-Wood Cemetery on my blog here:

I don't know how the birding was in other parts of NYC and Long Island today,
but the cemetery was hoppin'!

Good birding,

Rob

[nysbirds-l] Report: Crested Caracara - Ulster County

2015-09-16 Thread Will Raup

There was a report to the Riff Raff Hawkwatch Group on Facebook of a Crested
Caracara seen today [and supposedly photographed] off Rt. 299 near Highland,
Ulster County, then seen flying towards New Paltz.
The observer said on the facebook group, that looking at his photos, this bird
appears to be missing an eye...
Good Luck and Good Birding!
