[nysbirds-l] a Central Park, NYC Mourning Warbler, Thurs., 9/29 + other sightings
Thursday, September 29th - Central Park, Manhattan, N.Y. City Some discussion in the field, and - by some - after the fact also, involved a presumptive Mourning Warbler (found by A. Kramer) for which the added interest by many many dozens of birders after the initial sighting was due especially to the **question - by some - of possibility** for a MacGillivrays Warbler, and also questions - by some - of a *possible* hybrid of some sort. Among many photos obtained were these now in the Macaulay Library: https://macaulaylibrary.org/asset/488820641 Note- as this bird was found, word went out immediately and thru sources other than the twitter incorporated web page.Otherwise in Central Park, at least 22 species of warblers were found on the day, and in total more than 85 species of birds, which included at least 11 species in the sparrow tribe, not adding House Sparrow - Vesper, multiple Savannah and White-crowned, and Lincolns Sparrows were among these, as was Slate-colored Junco. At Inwood Hill Park in northern Manhattan, 4 American Pipits were seen as well as many other migrant species (D. Karlson, et al). Connecticut Warbler was reported in at least 2 separate locations in N.Y. County on 9/29, one at Central Park, the other on Randalls Island (latter by observer E. Peterson), where many other migrants also were noted on the day. The migration was strong all over New York County and the region, for both numbers of some species and diversity of species overall.
