Re:[nysbirds-l] gyrfalcon _ _ _ YES!

2015-02-09 Thread Curt McDermott
Gyrfalcon new location. Having not has enough earlier today, Clara and I
returned to see the Gyr again. It is currently on Bruyn Tpk., 1/2 mile east of
the intersection of Hoagerburgh Rd. The bird is perched across the field
directly across from 350 Bruyn Tpk. As a second reference point, there is a
yellow excavator on the property to the left of the bird. When we first came
upon it, it was feeding over a kill about 100yrds out in the field. NOTE:
there is no shoulder on the side of the road!!! If you cross the white line,
you will be towed out just as we were, in our 4x4 vehicle.

Good luck,
   Curt & Clara McDermott

[nysbirds-l] Gyrfalcon - Yes (Gilgo Beach)

2014-01-04 Thread Brent Bomkamp
The Gyrfalcon was just seen by Sam Janazzo and I from the Gilgo Beach
parking lot (1:30 pm). Unfortunately, we took our eyes off the Osprey
platform it was sitting on and the bird was no longer there. It is worth
noting that two Peregrines were present on nearby platforms. Also present
was an American Bittern in flight over the marsh.
