[nysbirds-l] Royal Tern at Great Gull Island, Suffolk Co., July 10 & 11

Last night around sunset a calling Royal Tern was flying over the tern colony 
on Great Gull Island. This morning it was roosting with Commons and Roseates on 
our dock.

Evan,

Although it is difficult to know for sure from the video, the bird looks
much more like a Caspian Tern than a Royal Tern b/c of the shape of the
head and the dark under the primaries.

A ROYAL TERN flew past Old Field Point in Setauket this morning at about 8:30.  
At least a dozen LAUGHING GULLS were still present, as a well as a GREAT 
CORMORANT and a COMMON MERGANSER mixed in with a flock of RB Mergs.

[nysbirds-l] Royal Tern, Yonkers

Hi
While watching Peregrines at the Yonkers Marina (behind the Museum) I had a 
 large single tern flying up river.  
I am not really an expert in Gulls and Terns, but I am quite sure it was a  
Royal Tern.  I have seen them before at the beach, but this was a first on  
the Hudson.
 
The Peregrines hunt actively from the double smoke stacks.   Unfortunately 
no sign of breeding success this year.  Seems a lot of sites  I am visiting 
are showing one failed nest after another.
