RE: [nysbirds-l] White ibis no

2017-07-17 Thread Curt McDermott
Hi All,
Sorry for the late post. I was at work and just arrived home. The 5
White Ibis DID in fact return this evening to roost in the same tree. This
reported tonight(Monday) by Linda Scrima, who with her husband, braved a
pretty rough storm by all accounts and observed the birds arriving at 7:07PM.
Good Birding,
Curt McDermott

People were at Wickham lake after dawn but no luck. Searching in the area was
not productive. They may be out feeding and could return to their roost at
Wickham lake. Or not

RE: [nysbirds-l] White Ibis - Evangola State Park

2016-07-15 Thread Willie D'Anna and Betsy Potter
The adult White Ibis at Evangola SP was reported earlier this afternoon but has
not been seen in at least two hours. From what I can recall of this park, there
are not any large wetlands there, just a couple of small ponds. So, it may have
continued on in search of something better. If I hear of any later reports, I
will post an update.

Good birding!

Re: [nysbirds-l] White Ibis - Staten Island - NOT SEEN

2011-04-26 Thread Angus Wilson
Thanks for relaying the news (though negative). I'm sure there have been
plenty of subscribers waiting anxiously for an update.

White Ibis has a reputation for staying at a site for a short period before
moving on. For example, the immature sighted and beautifully photographed at
Piermont (Rockland Co.) in Aug 2008 was there for only a few hours, much to
the chagrin on many NYC birders who have failed to connect with this species
in the state.

Of course, the question now is where has the Staten Island bird gone?
Hopefully people will check the Mount Loretto area on the corresponding tide
this afternoon/evening in case it performs an encore. Plenty of suitable
habitat around the edges of New York Harbor both on the New York and New
Jersey sides to satisfy this species. Jamaica Bay and the Meadowlands marsh
complexes would be obvious places to look, with so many Glossy Ibis and
other herons, but by the same token the bird could wander over a greater
distance quite quickly. The juvenile White Ibis that visited Tonawanda
Wildlife Management Area in Niagara Co in the fall of 2009 was (to my
knowledge) only spotted at the roost site, so obviously ibis have the
potential to vanish from sight quite easily. This bird is an adult which may
help.

Re: [nysbirds-l] White Ibis - Tonawanda WMA

2009-10-23 Thread Mike Wasilco
There is no open season on idiots, so he must have been poaching idiots.

Seriously though, he was most assuredly a bow hunter and will have as little or
less disturbance to the birds than the birders do, and his license fees help
pay for the management site that is available for all the public to enjoy for
free. I would ask that you consider these things before insulting hunters who
are doing nothing wrong.

It back. or maybe it never left. The White Ibis was well observed near the
tree top at the egret roost from 6:10 to 6:15, then it dropped down into the
thickets. Unfortunately an idiot hunter walked in to set up his tree stand
about 30 yards west of the egret roost.
