Re: CWS swbookmarkfixes01 rebasing and licensing

2012-07-04 Thread Ross Gardler
I'd suggest being even more patient. In my experience people don't give
answers to general queries involving legal issues. A specific question,
like please can we we have CWS foo since the community wishes to integrate
it is more likely to get a response.

The general case, as far as we are aware, remains the same. Oracle have, so
far, never refused our requests when they have been specific and actionable.

The fix in the bug report referred to by Ariel Constenla-Haile earlier in this
thread, and incorporated into the current AOO 3.4.1 dev builds works.

On Ubuntu I was able to hotplug a monitor/beamer and by selecting System
Settings /Displays (/ Monitors on earlier Ubuntus) I could turn off mirror
displays, then drag the two monitors to desired positions on the display
space. In Lubuntu I hotplugged the monitor/beamer and ran arandr which had the
same effect. arandr can save ones configuration (either single monitor or dual
- perhaps multiple? - monitors) as a script file. Running the appropriate
batch file sets Lubuntu up to recognise the dual monitor positioning; the
script files can be linked to hotkeys (arandr gives instructions).

All is now working well on my presentation netbook. Many disgruntled listeners
may shorty be making little wax dolls labeled Ariel and sticking pins into
them, so, if you don't feel well, Ariel, you know what is the cause :-)

 @Rob, @Drew, @Kay

I created an issue that proposed a new terms of use that was consistent with
the Oracle ones for ASF and would have not made this problem worse, as far
as I can tell. That was long ago and it went nowhere. The JIRA issue is
 here: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LEGAL-104. Here's the
 connected issue on our Bugzilla:
 https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=118518. I came to our
Bugzilla because LEGAL-104 can't have attachments. The attachment on the
Bugzilla provides a red-lined transformation of the Oracle ToU into one that
could work for the forums, wikis, and web pages now under ASF custodianship.

It addresses some of the cases that Rob also mentions. I stand by my
analysis. You might want to see how to carve out what you want from that,
since it is at least a start and the places where further customization may
be called for are all identified.

  - Dennis

 Hi Dennis,

You did a good job on it then too.

I just took the time to go back and read over the exchange on the legal
JIRA entry and a quick read, again, of your markup to the original TOU
 text.

For a TOU link in the website, wiki and forum footer I think it is a
good think to just finish this up and use it.

The website no longer offers account creation so with the new TOU and
the current http://www.openoffice.org/privacy.html , I suppose it would
 be done (for today :)

where one does still have a difference between registered and
 non-registered users:

 - the media wiki already has
 http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/OpenOffice.org_Wiki:Copyrights
so I suppose that would be done (for today) also.

 - the forums, just add a requirement that everything new is ALv2 in
 http://user.services.openoffice.org/en/forum/ucp.php?mode=terms (and
 it's translations)

At least it seems this simple to me, does it really need to be thought
out a lot further then that?

If someone has a specific proposal, can they stick it on the Cwiki as
a draft and we can work on it a bit?

As simple as possible, but no simpler.

-Rob

Some months ago it was discussed with the ASF Board whether a privacy
condition and safe-harbor setup was desired. That apparently didn't get
 anywhere.

If I understand the Google Store page, this product predates any release from
AOOi. The code is under GPL3+ and has not been touched on GitHub for 11
months. It is a front end to JOpenDocument (LGPL3+ since February, 2012).

I wonder, in a case like this, whether there is more downside than upside to
being fussy about Android's first OpenOffice and LibreOffice Document Reader!
View your documents created using OpenOffice or LibreOffice on the go.

It may be that this is more of an ODF Document Reader than an OpenOffice
Document Reader. My sense is that the intention to support documents created
by OpenOffice or LibreOffice is well-stated. It appears that the popular view
of OpenOffice doesn't depend on awareness of ODF and it is all about product
interoperability/compatibility.

I don't see any evidence of passing off as work of the OpenOffice.org,
LibreOffice, or Apache OpenOffice projects.

Document import wizard and docx format

while AOO opens whatever-x document formats, the import wizard do not

My knowledge on macro programming is almost non existent, but looking
at the ImportWizard library you can find blocks of code for doc, xls,

was written before OOo got support for these formats? Anyway, the
devil is in the detail: I think it will be interesting to update the

Would be nice if Rob or someone created a video tutorial for this

  Hi Rob --

I couldn't read this one as clearly as your first. You used some sort of
zoom mechanism on the first one I think, and also there seemed to be some
text annotations on the first one with actual bookmarlet URL that this
 one
  doesn't have.

I'm still learning the tool (Camtasia) It looks like if you do the
original recording at a higher resolution than the output resolution
then you can tell it to automatically zoom in to area where your mouse
is. But in this case my recording resolution is the same as the
output resolution, so no zooming is possible.

But I can add text annotations, arrows, etc.

Text annotations would help I think. This video is really quite a different
experience for me than your first -- I can't say why.

I enjoyed your humorous account of searching for CMS in wikipedia by the
way. That Certificate in Master Safecracking might bear some research! :)

Here is the amazing coincidence. I recorded that video back on June
24th. The joke about the CMS abbreviations was just random, based on
what Wikipedia showed. One of them I showed in the tutorial was CMS
== Compact Muon Solenoid.

Well, what happened a week later?

The CMS, part of CERN, announces that they think they've found the
Higgs Boson, the long sought particle.

But wait, there's more!

Look at the CMS press releases here:
http://cms.web.cern.ch/org/cms-presentations-public

All the the press release translations are in PDF or DOC or DOCX
format, except from the one in Finnish, which is in OpenOffice
format (well, really ODF). And we're adding Finnish translation in
our next release.

So very strange, improbable coincidences. Or did Joe cause the Higgs
Boson to be created by adding anonymous support to the Apache CMS?

Hmmm...

-Rob

Thanks for shedding more light on this at any rate. I know folks will
 appreciate these.

So good information, but difficult to see. Sorry.

[QA]When tester can close release blocker defect

2012-07-04 Thread Li Feng Wang
Hi, all,
I am verifying some resolved 3.4.1 release blocker defects. Some fixed on
trunk, some fixed on branch, some fixed on both trunk and branch

I usually verify defects on stream, which fixed code exist, then close
it.

But I think tester can close defect, that must fixed on trunk.

I want to confirm when tester close release blocker defect, Do we need
to ensure the defect fixed on trunk?
or Tester can close defect after verified defect on branch, then need
verfiy all release blocker defects on trunk before release?

Re: [Calc][Discuss]Interoperability with Excel for SUMIF, COUNTIF, COUNTBLANK, DCOUNT, DSUM, ... with empty cells and and = empty string criteria.

2012-07-04 Thread Lei Wang
@Dennis,

I agree that conforming to ODFF is first goal. I add comments and
attachment in https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=65221
From my understanding of ODFF, I give ODFF expect result for some formula
related with empty cell in the attachment(xls). If there is any mistake,
please comments.

Open this file in AOO3.4/LO3.5, 16 cases fail.
There are:

Criterion in COUNTIF/SUMIF
   ODFF AOO3.4/LO3.5
criterion as = empty cellempty string cell
criterion as not empty cellnot empty cell and not empty
string cell
criterion as 0any cell exceptany cell except 0, not
including empty cell
 value 0, including
  empty cell

Criterion in criteria for database formula, such as DSUM, DCOUNT
  ODFFAOO3.4/LO3.5
 criterion is emptyvalue 0all cells
 cell
 criterion is emptyempty stringall cells
 string
criterion as = empty cellempty cell and empty string cell
criterion as not empty cellnot empty cell and not empty
string cell

Also AOO3.4/LO3.5 has self-consistent problem.
The different result for same criterion between COUNTIF/SUMIF and database
formulu(DCOUNT/DSUM). These criterion includes:
criterion is empty cell, criterion is empty string, criterion is =,
criterion is 0

While, open this file in Excel 2003, 8 cases fail.
There are:

Criterion in COUNTIF/SUMIF
   ODFF Excel 2003
criterion is empty string cellempty string cell and empty
cell
criterion is emptyempty string cellempty string cell and empty cell
 string

Criterion in criteria for database formula, such as DSUM, DCOUNT
 ODFFAOO3.4/LO3.5
 criterion is emptyvalue 0all cells
 cell

Also Excel 2003 has self-consistent problem.
The different result for same criterion between COUNTIF/SUMIF and database
formulu(DCOUNT/DSUM). These criterion includes:
criterion is empty cell, criterion is empty string

It seems Excel has better conformance for these test cases.

Conform to ODFF is very important. Compatible with Excel is also very
important, especially for some common used Excel scenario, such as
COUNTIF(refrange, ) to count all cells displayed as empty. Do we have
any chance to modify ODFF to solve this Excel user problem?

I agree with orw that the first goal should be to align with OpenFormula,
and that is specific about the use of Criteria in SUMIF, COUNTIF, etc., as
 you saw in section 4.11.8.

In the case that there needs to be further clarification in OpenFormula,
comments can be submitted to the ODF TC for Errata and/or improvements in
the next edition, ODF 1.3. OpenFormula was developed with cross-format
interoperability in mind and Microsoft participation was helpful for that.

User Guide documentation on these cases is probably also important.

I am surprised that the ODF standard does not dictate how this should
be handled. I was under the impression that function behaviour in an ODF
document was well defined. I believe that Robert Weir is far more aware
of ODF type issues than I (since I have seen him mentioned by name on
similar topics) - not that I intend to unfairly pull him into this
 discussion.

In Version 1.2 of the part-2 for OpenFormula, I don't see it obviously
spelled out, but I don't really have time to extensively pursue it.

 4.7 Empty Cell
An empty cell is neither zero nor the empty string, and an empty cell
can be distinguished from cells containing values (including zero and
the empty string). An empty cell is not the same as an Error, in
particular, it is distinguishable from the Error #N/A (not available).

 Moving on to section 4.8

The definitions of specific operations and functions that allow
references as operands and parameters stipulate any particular
limitations there are on forms of references and how empty cells, when
 permitted, are interpreted.

Now, on to 4.11.8, pretty clear here:

Technically, I think the release blocker defects should also be integrated
to trunk stream except for those branch stream special issue, such as

trunk stream.
