RE: [OpenAFS] 2023 AFS Technologies Workshop - virtual

2023-06-09 Thread Di Marco White, Tracy J
Hi Stephan,

Our intent was to work around Zoom's PayPal integration issues with "If you
have any issues with registration, please mail to openafs.works...@gmail.com to
let us help." We do not want to limit anyone's ability to participate.

Hi Tracy,

I'm a bit baffled by the "list of countries and regions" from where one can
register for this event. To name a few, the workshop seems not to be accessible
from Iceland, Norway, Finland, Denmark, Slovakia, Hungary, almost all of Africa
(including South Africa) and Asia (including Taiwan, India,...) etc.

Frankly, I think this is a violation of our code of conduct. While I have
registered, I'm seriously considering not to participate.

But I still hope this is a misunderstanding.

Best regards,
Stephan

[OpenAFS] RE: 2023 AFS Technologies Workshop - virtual

2023-06-09 Thread Di Marco White, Tracy J
Once you've registered for the conference, please join the Zoom Events Lobby
and look through the talks available. Within the lobby, you are able to
bookmark talks, and those bookmarked talks are used to build your itinerary for
the conference. Please explore Zoom Events in advance if you can.

Zoom has made available a video (https://youtu.be/LJr-DE4ktb4) walking through
these steps.

Thanks,
Tracy

At the math department of the University of Hamburg, we do use home
directories in the AFS on Ubuntu 22.04 desktop machines.

The main configuration:
- Use ppa:openafs/stable
- Apparmor must ignore /afs and /var/cache/openafs
- pam_afs_session must use the nopag option (we used to have scripts to
copy credentials between contexts, but they did not always work)
- you cannot use snap packaged with a home directory outside /home: use
ppa:mozillateam/ppa for Firefox and Google Chrome instead of Chromium

We have fairly large scripts to setup an Ubuntu desktop. I have tried to
extract the relevant lines for AFS (which are not all needed):

TAB=$(printf '\t')
debconf-set-selections >
/etc/apparmor.d/tunables/home.d/ubuntu

AAAB=/etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/base
AAAB_AFS_CACHE_LINE='/var/cache/openafs/** rw,'
AAAB_AFS_BASE_LINE='/afs/** rw,'
grep -q afs/ "$AAAB" || AA_RELOAD=yes
fgrep -q "$AAAB_AFS_CACHE_LINE" "$AAAB" || cat >>"$AAAB" <>"$AAAB"
