That is that we prepend each paragraph with the name of the person who wrote it (like for this message). The text which is being quoted has a character before each line. Adrian: For a while we followed this guidline and I notice that the archives are *much* easier to read during this time. Could we perhaps try and go back to using this system? STOP!!! Uli: Not the way Alain does it, please. At least prepend "" before them, too. If a person replies to a message and quotes text where another quoted him, current and quoted comments can be mixed up. E.g. in "old-style" quoting: Adrian: Ahem, I'll quote myself... Adrian: The text which is being quoted has a character before each line. Adrian: I agree with you. Leaving out the dramatically increases the amount of time it takes me to skim a message in the archive, and when I first read it. (Anthony: Especially since vim so nicely colours things for me) Uli: I said it back then already, but I guess it got lost so I'll dedicate a whole post to it. Adrian: Nope, it's all there in the archive.

E.g. in "old-style" quoting: I really hate root beer Why? Kevin Calhoun likes it I admit it's not that bad Changed your opinion, eh? Would be Steve: I really hate root beer John: Why? Kevin Calhoun likes it Steve: I admit it's not that bad John: Changed your opinion, eh? Which can dramatically change context and also makes reading harder, because you'll never know whether the text you're reading is a quote or an actual comment. So, let's combine both styles, ok? Steve: I really hate root beer John: Why? Kevin Calhoun likes it Steve: I admit it's not that bad John: Changed your opinion, eh? I said it back then already, but I guess it got lost so I'll dedicate a whole post to it. Cheers, -- M.
