Steven,
  Dave Cinege did not have to "give up the development".
  He made a decision to give up on the LRP project - despite significant
achievements.

There are lots of very useful "Intellectual Property" around that cannot
be easily/successfully exchanged for money. Unfortunately for Dave Cinege,
he is quite unhappy that LRP falls into this category.
