Re: [osol-discuss] Solaris Management Center
Thanks again, the stuff I like is free. A little background recently changed jobs where I used to work heavily with Nagios Cacti within a big linux / freebsd setup and have now moved to a place that pretty much exclusively uses Sun but lacks any real monitoring or performance graphing that I'm used to having. Neither Nagios or Cacti seem to fit the bill for various reasons, we also use IBM DB2 and Websphere7 but for the moment its hardware and O/S stuff I'm interested in. So I stumbled across SMC, I wasn't aware it was coming to EOL but its free as far as I can tell. As for Halcyon and Oracle Enterprise Manager if they cost money then I'll take a look and see what they can do. Yeh thanks I found this out today too - I just assumed it would ... big mistake. Installed Solaris 10 instead and got it installed on there. But not without several issues along the way !! -- This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
Re: [osol-discuss] Solaris Management Center
Hi, SunMC is pretty much EOL and the replacement is Oracle Enterprise Manager Ops Center. However, if you like SunMC, you can get the equiv from the folks who wrote the monitoring components: http://www.halcyoninc.com/ They wrote the monitoring components and sell their own stand-alone product that most of the plug-ins for SunMC came from. Definitely worth checking out. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Octave J. [osol-discuss] Solaris Management Center
Hi - would someone be able to help me figure out why I can't install the above on my x86 OpenSolaris 2009.6 install? I just wanted to take a look at this product to see what sort use it might be within our Sun infrastructure without actually installing in our live environment so have got OpenSolaris running as a virtual machine within VirtualBox. So I've downloaded the smc zip file, installed the Java JDK dependencies and then tried to install by doing: sudo ./es-guiinst I get the initial screen when the Install Wizard opens and click Next, but it then errors and states The Wizard could not detect the source files. Exiting The actual install notes do say to do this as the root user but when I try that the wizard doesn't even launch it fails with: The DISPLAY environment variable must be set to a valid X server I've tried setting the DISPLAY variable but no look and I'm not entirely sure why this is happening, the install notes seem to say I just need to run this and that's about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Julian. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org ___ opensolaris-discuss mailing list opensolaris-discuss@opensolaris.org
