Re: [openthinclient-user] Problem with Ceres on Centos 6.5

2014-06-12 Thread Stecher, Alexander
Hello Steve,
If you use base 2.0-18 there is a new feature:
in the openthinclient-manager goto Device, rightclick, add new
Then select from the pulldown-list persistant home on NFS and save this
device.
Then combine it to the Thinclient or to the Hardwaretype.
Reboot the client.

Now you can e.g. add bookmarks in the iceweasel, or save e.g. documents on
the client-desktop and they'll be back after reboot.

Good luck, and give this mailinglist a feedback, if it works correctly?

  Hi Steffen,

 Thnx for your answer.

I am using auto-logon. When I add something on the desktop of this
auto-login user (when I boot a thinclient), it doesn't seem to be
persistent, the next time I boot this is gone.

Is it possible to make this change persistent or add this desktop-starter
 to iceweasel some other way?

It would be very user-friendly if there was some kind of application (like
firefox in minerva/ceres) that you could add to a client or a user, and in
which you could define what the startpage is etc... is this very difficult to
create. If not, I would give it a try, but I don't know where to start.

 Hi Steve,

there is no configurable desktop application as of yet, but you may define
 a custom desktop file (
 http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/apa.html) and
copy it via the custom folder logic to your desktop folder
/home/tcos/Desktop... It may or may not work, depending on your usecase
(autologin vs. ldap etc pp). Otherwise deal with it, and explain it to your
 users.

 Ok,

 Superb!

I am happy there is a web-browser. Problem almost solved.

But, the users, like me, will never search for it in the menu. So is it
possible to set a desktop starter, and yes, how?

Sorry, I am very new to otc and linux.

I found somewhere how to add an application, but I don't know if I can do
 this.

If somebody has an application that just adds a starter on the desktop for
iceweasel, would you please be so kind to share it, and explain how I can
 add it to the appolications?

 Thanks in advance.

try using autologin device on those machines if you dont need user

No, firewall is no issue (is disabled), the client does seem to boot in
the beginning, i see the openthinclient screen with the progress bar, then
it drops to a black screen with login prompt:

With Consus installed on this same CentOS server neither.

Minerva is no option, none of my clients boot when using Minerva Virtual
 Appliance.

They do when using Ceres Virtual Applicance, but they don't when I install
 Ceres myself on CentOS.

I need to get it working under CentOS, so I hope someone has a solution
 for this.

 Thanks in advance.

So I tried to install Ceres on this same machine, I tried both: uninstall

I tried with the virtual appliance of Ceres and no problems with that,

So, what am I doing wrong?

Isn’t is possible to get my clients booted from OTC on CentOS 6.5?

Or (even better solution for us) is it possible to have firefox on a OTC
