[openthinclient-user] Unable to Connect to Realm

2013-07-11 Thread jtrafny
Not sure what happened, at one point I was able to connect from my workstation
to the manager and then to the Realm, but now I'm unable to from my workstation
and from the server itself. The information page to log on comes up, we are not
connected to our AD, I enter the password and click next and nothing happens,
almost like it's not recognizing that next was clicked.

I thought it might be because my workstation was running Java 7.25 so I
downgraded back to 7.21 and the problem still exists. Last night we rebooted
the server and still the same problem. Our thin clients are still working, I
just can't get in to manage anything. Any help or suggestions would be great.

Thanks

2013-07-11 Thread jtrafny
Miguel-

It's listening on port 10389. I inherited the system and I'm trying to figure
out how it works so that I can upgrade to version 1 to hopefully address some
security concerns found in a penetration test. We are using the openthinclient
realm and our workstations use PXE boot.

The only service that I see that is related is the one titled
openthinclient.org. Is there another service that I should be looking for? The
only service that is set to automatic that is not running is related to Sophos.

Thanks

Hi Jason,

It seems like the manager is not up and running. Did you checked if the service
is up and running? maybe a netstat -ano helps there too, just to know if the
server is listening on the socket...

From where are you connecting your thinclients? Java? Thinclient through pxe

It's extrange that the login page shows and the AD fails... Are you using
openthinclient realm or you are using a MS one?

Re: [openthinclient-user] Unable to Connect to Realm

2013-07-11 Thread jtrafny
Sorry for the confusion, we are not running the virtual appliance, we are just
running the installation on a Windows 2008 server. As far as I know there's
nothing specific with our configuration. Best of my knowledge the ThinClient's
PXE Boot and connect to a specific server.

Where are the configuration files stored for the LDAP and how would I go about
backing them up and restoring them? I had posted a question a several weeks ago
to see what the process would be to upgrade but did not get any real answers.
One response mentioned that the configurations are probably stored in an XML
but not specifics. Part of why I was trying to get into the manager was to see
if there was an option to back up or a path that would show me where the
configuration files are kept.

It sounds like we have two options to upgrade, but either way we will need to
back up and restore our LDAP settings. We can either upgrade the installation
on Windows that we currently have or go the appliance route with VM (which you
believe is the best route). Is this correct?

The data is stored in an apache-DS.
Have a look at the directory:
../openthinclient/server/default/data/apacheds-store

If you'll be able to run the openthinclient Manager (e.g. from another machine)
then you can backup your data via:
realm - openthinclient - primary directory view - [right-click] - LDIF
export

Good luck.

Hi again Jason,

As I can guess, you have the windows version installed. The server is java, so
there won't be any problem here.

Just to be sure that the manager is running: open a command line in windows
2008 and type this command: netstat -ano and check if some process is attached
to port 8080.
If this is correct, then open a browser and enter this url:
http://localhost:8080 and copy here what appears there.

downloading virtual appliance is the best option, of course, because it has all
the software installed there inside an ubuntu distro. We have this installation
and the configuration is minimal to have it running, but firstly you need to
enter to the LDAP just to be sure that it doesn't have any special
configuration for your company and also you will need to download user
information for your environment (but maybe you could re-create this in the new
environment). You will also need to know which are the dhcp server
configurations for your environment, just to know if there are special
server-next configurations.

Miguel
