[Origami] new book review

2016-12-31 Thread Clare
Hi all

Last week I came across a beautifully produced, albeit a tad costly, origami
book, Paper Home (ISBN 9781910904329) by Esther Thorpe. It showcases
beautifully make origami for home decorating, suing sensational paper and
gorgeous photography.
However, I cannot recommend it for novice folders - I really found the photo
'diagrams' really hard to follow, particularly as the patterned paper used
made it hard to see any folds or paper edges - and I reckon I'm not exactly
a novice folder. Esther also uses her own terminology, which I found
confusing. My other gripe is that not a single model is attributed, even
though I know they are not all traditional. In summary, a stunningly
beautiful book that presents origami as a great home decorating product, but
poorly executed, and may well lead to more frustrated novice folders who
give up way too early.

Cheers

Hi everyone,

2016 is almost over. It's hard to believe that it's nearly 2017.

Over the past year a number of people have requested meeting every month rather
than every other month. The good news is that we can meet every month except
November. The bad news is that we need to switch to the second Saturday.

Our next meeting will be held on Saturday, January 14, starting at 1:15 PM at
the Monmouth County Library Headquarters Library at 125 Symmes Rd. in
Manalapan, NJ.

Please come and join us. We enjoy having you. The more the merrier.

Please bring your friends who fold, also paper and models you have made to
share with us, new books to show us and dry snacks, if you like. Hope to see
you there.
Please email me if you need directions.

The meeting dates for 2017 are:

February 11
March 11
April 8
May 13
