Re: [Oscar-users] Oscar not fully dead

2012-06-26 Thread Rayson Ho
I was indirectly involved in OSCAR when the GSoC selected an OSCAR
project that integrates Grid Engine into OSCAR, as I was a member of
the open source Sun Grid Engine at that time.

Since the Open Grid Scheduler project is now the official version of
open-source Grid Engine (we are now outside of Oracle), we are happy
to accept changes from the OSCAR-Grid Engine integration project or
other changes from the OSCAR project.

In fact, we have a few useful changes that are useful for many HPC sites:

In last years's GE2011.11 release:
http://gridscheduler.sourceforge.net/Releases/ReleaseNotesGE2011.11.pdf

In the upcoming GE 2011.11 update 1 release:

The important question I guess is whether there is still any interest
 in Oscar from users.

In other words, is it worth putting in the effort to help the
developers get Oscar going on Centos 6.2, and going forward, or has
everyone decided to move on elsewhere?

Definitely would like OSCAR to continue.

The other solutions still dont quite cut it and there is a lot of manual
intervention to get a cluster up and running.

Have not really been a fan of Rocks.

Is OSCAR looking for developers? Maybe we could give a hand.
