I have a client who can only pay me with a credit card. is there something I 
could use to accept this payment as a one off? Paypal? Something better? I 
assume I'd be hit with merchant fees of some sort regardless of method.

Or maybe other bank apps.  I mentioned CBA because it's what I use

With the combank app they could pay into your BSB / account number.
