Ditto. We have a weekly 4-person Zoom meeting and share a single docx to
scribble in. The conveener moved the docx to his personal account drive and
cancelled the old Workspace account (he had it for so long he forgot what
it was). Google's marketing and advertising around this issue is rather
confusing, but who cares, we're back to normal -- *Greg K*

I ended up moving my Google photos, and other things out of my Workspace
and into a normal @gmail account.

So much Google stuff just doesn't work against Workspace accounts - like
sharing resources for Google Home with other people etc.

I'd like to move all my data out of workspace but Google takeout is
useless. It exports incomplete data into an arbitrary XML format and there
is no way to re-import the data anywhere on the other end.

Some good news here about google workspace free edition. Google are now
offering you to continue with the free version if not used for business
purposes. You just need to opt out of the upgrade.

If it is just a single mailbox you could do this.

https://thedigitalnonprofit.com/use-gmail-own-domain-free/

1. Setup a standard gmail account yourdom...@gmail.com.
2. Configure email forwarding with your register or use CloudFlare email
forwarding to forward all emails to yourdom...@gmail.com
3. Setup Gmail to "Send As" n...@yourdomain.com.au using your standard
Gmail credentials.

There seems to be mixed messages about the no cost option.

I think google stated no custom domains.

But users have been chatting with google support and they have said/hinted
custom domains would be available.

Re: [OT] Google Workspace free edition ending soon

2022-04-18 Thread Peter Griffith
Is there a no-cost option if I don’t want to upgrade?

A no-cost option will be available for all customers who do not want to use
Gmail with their custom domain (for example, your-n...@example.com), or the
ability to manage multiple users. Customers who choose this option will
retain access to the no-cost version of Google Workspace services such as
Google Drive and Google Meet, and additional Google services
 such as Google Search, Google
Maps, and YouTube. You will also retain access to paid content such as
movies purchased in the Google Play Store.

*You'll see a message about the waiting list in your Google Admin console
in the coming weeks.*

*If you want the no cost option, you need to join this waiting list in
the Google Admin console before June 1, 2022,* so
your account is not automatically upgraded to Google Workspace. *Those on
the waiting list will remain on the G Suite legacy free edition until the
no-cost option is available.* Once the no-cost option is available, we’ll
be in touch with more details on what will happen to your account. You will
have 60 days to evaluate the no-cost option or choose Google Workspace
before any changes are made to your account.

If you change your mind after you join the waiting list for the no-cost
option, you’ll still be able to upgrade to Google Workspace at any time.
When I tried last week to get on the waiting list, not yet available, seems
to be a WATCH THIS SPACE option

Re: [OT] Google Workspace free edition ending soon

2022-04-18 Thread Adrian Halid
Hi Tom,

I also have the GSuite Legacy and am trying to figure out where I move it.

It depends on what your needs are.

Do you use catch-all or aliases?
How many email accounts do you have?
How many domain names do you have?

The main options I have been looking at are

Microsoft 365 Family $127 per year
6 people with one custom domain.
Plus you get the Microsoft Office suite, 1TB OneDrive.

iCloud+
You can use up to five custom domains, with up to three personalised email
addresses per domain.
This might be a good option if you are already paying for iCloud+ storage
as you get this included.
50 GB: $1.49 per month
200 GB: $4.49 per month
2 TB: $14.99 per month
https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT212514

You can also go down the Microsoft Exchange online route which gives you
900 domains and 400 alias.
$5.50 per user per month
https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/microsoft-365/exchange/compare-microsoft-exchange-online-plans

I have been following this Reddit group
https://www.reddit.com/r/gsuitelegacymigration for information and ideas.

The main suggestion for migrating emails is to just use IMAP, your mail
client (Outlook/Thunderbird/etc) and copy from one service to another.
I believe Exchange Online has migration tools that can do it for you if you
go for that service.
I have also been looking at https://imapsync.lamiral.info/

I am still waiting to see what options Google comes out with as some people
believe google will provide a low cost "Family" style option like Microsoft.

I have also been considering getting a Microsoft Action Pack subscription
which gives me 5 Office 365 E3 licenses and Azure credits.
A lot more costly but I have been thinking about trying out personal
projects in the Azure stack.

Regards

Adrian

[OT] Google Workspace free edition ending soon

2022-04-18 Thread Tom Rutter
Hi folks,

Some of you may know the free edition of Google Workspace is ending soon
and we are now forced to upgrade to a paid version. I only set this up over
10 years ago as it was free and allowed me to have a custom domain for
private use. I only use it for emails.

Is anybody here in a similar position and planning to move away to another
service? Any recommendations? I simply wish to keep my emails, in their
current folder / label structure, and custom domain name.

I assume one option is to connect my local Outlook to gmail and download
all my emails and then upload them to another service? Could take a while -
I have like 10GB of emails.

Cheers
