2009-11-18 Thread Daniel W. Brown
Just to name some, the new UI is awesome. Welcome to the ribbon with live
preview of everything.

Hover over the buttons, selected text changes fonts, colour, style, etc. Same
with pretty much everything like that.

Pretty much every page is now a wiki page which allows for mass easier editing
of page content,

Far fewer UI freshes with the use of AJAX, only what you're working on updates,
rather than the entire page.

Been playing with it for awhile now and loving it.

Hi Nigel,

Is there no executable within the extracted files?? You should just need to run
this on the WFE where it's installed.

It's a native SharePoint app so you can open a support ticket with MS if you
get stuck.

Hey Paul

Not that I've seen. I download the exe and run it, it asks for a
destination which I provide, and it extracts (for the Aug 09 update) 14
zip files and 1 excel file. The zip files only contain documents - no
exe.

Might go the route of opening a support ticket - probably the best
option J

RE: Public Beta of SP2010

2009-11-18 Thread Darren Neimke

Once you go ribbon - you won't want to go back!

We'll see :-) I'm certainly not making judgements ahead of time and I'm going
into this open-minded, but I've always viewed web and desktop UX's as
completely separate things and now we are really starting to see those lines
getting significantly blurred. Maybe it's just something that I am going to
have to learn to live with? Or maybe Microsoft could have done it another way?

Either way, I'm certainly not saying that this (ultra rich UX) is going to
cause SP2010 to fail... but a part of me likes web apps that are specifically
tailored for a web experience - which tends to be lean and lightweight. The
web applications that I've always loved have been that way (think 37 Signals).

though. They've significantly cleaned up the HTML markup used and have
implemented performance enhancements with regards to the use of Javascript,
which is minified and split up into multiple JS files that are downloaded as
needed.

The ribbon takes a little getting used to, once you get your hands on it,
your first impressions of the ribbon UI will be hmmm. not sure I'm going to
like this, what have they done to SharePoint!

That being said, after using it for a while you get familiar to the new
interface, you can perform tasks easier with fewer clicks, and don't need to
be redirected back an forth through endless application pages.

Once you go ribbon - you won't want to go back!

Just to name some, the new UI is awesome. Welcome to the ribbon with live
 preview of everything.

Hover over the buttons, selected text changes fonts, colour, style, etc.
Same with pretty much everything like that.

Pretty much every page is now a wiki page which allows for mass easier
 editing of page content,

Far fewer UI freshes with the use of AJAX, only what you’re working on
updates, rather than the entire page.

Been playing with it for awhile now and loving it.

Confusing? Up until now it hasn't been.
I started from scratch. Heres the problem in detailed step by step.

1. Publish form to form library. (created a new form library in the
process)

2. Change Library settings to view form in web browser

3. Person A creates a new form

4. Submit

5. Workflow X emails Person B and they click on the link to open the form

6. Problem 1: Person B is asked in pop up to Open / Save / Cancel (this
did not happen before, the form just opened in browser)

7. Person B Opens and reviews form, and clicks a second submit

8. Form is submitted

9. Problem 2: Form is checked out and workflow Y cannot start
Any help will be greatly appreciated. The form and workflow were approved for
production after adding one more field to the form,
and when I made the change all things went pear shaped!

I am very confused as to what is causing this behaviour, as all I changed was a

Help..InfoPath and UserProfileService

2009-11-18 Thread Tommy Segoro
Hi everyone,

I've got a strange problem right now. I've got 2 servers, Test and Prod. In
Test, if I tried to connect a blank InfoPath form to
http://test/_vti_bin/userprofileservice.asmx it all works fine. But as soon as
I tried to connect to http://prod/_vti_bin/userprofileservice.asmx I get an
authentication box.

I tried to compare the settings between 2 servers (web.config, IIS, SQL, file
permission, etc), they're all the same! :(

Has anyone ever encountered this problem before? The solutions in Google don't
help at all.

Tommy

Hey Paul

Not that I've seen. I download the exe and run it, it asks for a
destination which I provide, and it extracts (for the Aug 09 update) 14
zip files and 1 excel file. The zip files only contain documents - no
exe.

Might go the route of opening a support ticket - probably the best

Hi Nigel,

Is there no executable within the extracted files?? You should just need
to run this on the WFE where it's installed.

It's a native SharePoint app so you can open a support ticket with MS if

I've got a strange problem right now. I've got 2 servers, Test and Prod. In
Test, if I tried to connect a blank InfoPath form to
http://test/_vti_bin/userprofileservice.asmx it all works fine. But as soon as
I tried to connect to http://prod/_vti_bin/userprofileservice.asmx I get an
authentication box.

I tried to compare the settings between 2 servers (web.config, IIS, SQL, file
permission, etc), they're all the same! :(

Has anyone ever encountered this problem before? The solutions in Google don't
help at all.

Cheers,
Tommy

Can confirm the update doesn't run, there is one on the Microsoft Office
Connect site now but it is not available to everybody yet.

It sounds like it is worth leaving R2 the hell alone based on comments I'm
hearing via social feeds ;-)

I tried running this fix before installing SP2010 Beta2 on R2. Update would not
even run!

Hi All,
For those who are lucky enough to have access to the SP2010 Beta2 bits, I
recommend you read this article before installing:
http://blogs.msdn.com/opal/archive/2009/11/16/installation-notice-for-sharepoint-2010-public-beta.aspx

Also note that there isn't a publically available WCF hotfix for those wanting
to use Windows Server 2008 R2, so for now you can use Windows Server 2008.

Ping me if you need any help getting it configured etc.

Cheers.

2009-11-18 Thread Jeremy Thake
I did a 1hour overview at Perth SharePoint User Group, I'm encoding the web
cast now.

Also I'm keeping the
SharePointDevWikihttp://www.sharepointdevwiki.com/display/sp2010/SharePoint+2010+Development+Home
SP2010 space up to date with what's new, what's changed, have they fixed...,
how to install etc. So please check that out too. Plenty of screenshots and
plenty of tutorials and web casts to come too.

I'm also in the progress of migrating it off of Confluence to #SP2010 also ;-)
so you'll be able to contribute to the site and play with the new tech too!

They've done some serious work on Mobile browser support, a much simpler and
lightweight UX for mobile devices. Could be just the thing for your Netbook.

Yep, I'm sure I will... especially because I will generally have a large screen
monitor when I'm using SharePoint (ie: corporate use). It's not like I'm gunna
be accessing my portal from my Netbook I guess... but if I did have to, what
would the UX be like?

Even though the new UX seems complex and fancy, its actually more lean and
lightweight than WSS 3.0 / MOSS 2007, it might not seem that way visually
though. They've significantly cleaned up the HTML markup used and have
implemented performance enhancements with regards to the use of Javascript,
which is minified and split up into multiple JS files that are downloaded as
needed.

You know you're gonna love it mate :)

The ribbon takes a little getting used to, once you get your hands on it, your
first impressions of the ribbon UI will be hmmm. not sure I'm going to like
this, what have they done to SharePoint!

That being said, after using it for a while you get familiar to the new
interface, you can perform tasks easier with fewer clicks, and don't need to be
redirected back an forth through endless application pages.

Once you go ribbon - you won't want to go back!

this release - such as the use of AJAX for partial page rendering - but having
a Ribbon and all that other richness in a browser... hrm, let's see.

Far fewer UI freshes with the use of AJAX, only what you're working on

connecting to it at the same site level to where the form is published?

Paul,

I'm connecting at site level. Form template is published at root site
collection level and it also tries to connect to a webservice at root level but
still no joy.

Following Jeremy's reply, what's even more strange is, I tried to create a test
blank site collection level at Test server with port 30167, I then tried to
connect to its web service via InfoPath eg
http://test:30167/_vti_bin/userprofileservice.asmx it works fine.

I then create the same blank site collection on Prod http://prod:30167, I then
tried to connect to the web service and it prompts me with authentication box
ARGHGHGHGHGHHGHGHG..it drives me nuts :(

So I suspect there must be something wrong with Prod's IIS :(

Please help. 911
