Do you have any idea what´s going wrong?

Volume Rendering uses opacity to let you see through and inside the
data. Surface just shows the outermost surface. Volume rendering is
more compute intensive and thus often slower to render.

The two usually look very different.

I would have to have more details, like a stack trace or at least
error output to hazard as guess as to why it might be segfaulting for
 you.

Re: [Paraview] The flow process for paraview and interaction between QT and VTK parts

2009-03-11 Thread David E DeMarle
vtk objects are all controlled through vtkSMProxies. This indirection
allows the client application to control vtk objects that exist in
remote (often parallel) processes as easily as it controls vtk objects
that exist within the same process.

The QT client application controls vtkSMProxies with the help of
pqProxy class. This class helps with vtk event to qt signal slot
translation.

There is more to the story than just the above. Perhaps Utkarsh, Berk
or some of the developers from ETI will add more detail.

Re: [Paraview] Error while saving data

2009-03-11 Thread Berk Geveci
The error, although annoying, does not point to an issue. Slice
creates empty blocks because it does not intersect some of the input
blocks. The writer is complaining about those. You should be able to
read and write despite the errors. I'll report a low priority bug to
remove the warning.

 Hello,
I have a multiblock dataset, which I have sliced and put a SurfaceVectors so

putting a StreamTracer and a Glyph generator but now I would like to save
 this 2D dataset.
What I have done is to select the SurfaceVectors object in the pipeline
area, use File-Save Data and select VTK Ascii format and clic the save
 button.
But I get the following message:

   ERROR: In /usr/local/ParaView-3.4.0/Servers/Filters/vtkCompleteArrays.cxx,
 line 138
vtkCompleteArrays (0x58eb3280): Could not create point array. The output

vtkCompleteArrays (0x58eb3280): Could not create point array. The output
 will not contain points

I suspect selecting the SurfaceVectors object is not the good way to
indicate to Paraview I want to save the sliced subset of the data so how
 should I proceed?

Second question : the bounding volume of the dataset has not changed after I
have sliced it so I suspect the new - 2D - dataset will be have a 3D extend,
so how to get a real 2D dataset, ie with dimensions like NxPx1?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The current development version at least has a checkbox on the save
screenshot dialog that lets you control whether all or just the active
view is saved. The default is to save just the active view.

I am not sure how far back that feature goes.

Re: [Paraview] The flow process for paraview and interaction between QT and VTK parts

2009-03-11 Thread Moreland, Kenneth
There are two main layers that deal with moving values from Qt components to
the underlying VTK objects. The first layer is the server manager layer, which
is controlled through the proxies that Dave mentions below. The server manager
layer is documented in Chapter 18 of The ParaView Guide.

There are different mechanisms for going from Qt components to server manager
proxies. Most of the GUI components under the Object Inspector/Properties tab
are managed by the pqPropertyManager class. This class records changes in Qt
GUI components, pushes the changes to the server manager when apply is hit, and
creates entries for the undo/redo stack. The pqPropertyManager class is
usually set up by methods in the pqNamedWidgets class. These methods will
attach QWidgets to server manager properties with the same name. It can also
automatically create Qt Widgets based on the properties in a server manager
proxy.

[Paraview] Better names for 'representations' ?

2009-03-11 Thread Eric E. Monson

Hello,

I am wondering whether it would be possible or reasonable to have
ParaView match the names of proxies in 'sources' and 'representations'?

When working from Python, it's easy to get a proxy from 'sources' if
you know its name from the pipeline. The name even changes when you
edit it in the pipeline. In contrast, 'representations' proxies are
named 'DataRepresentation1', 'DataRepresentation2', etc., and to find
the proper proxy I always have iterate through the representation
proxies and check for a match between the proxy from 'sources' and the
representation proxy Input.

Since I don't understand much about all the client/server/proxy stuff,
I don't know if this is a reasonable request, or if it's difficult for
PV to do things internally like change the representation name when
the source name is changed.

Thanks,
-Eric
