microphones

2004-12-16 Thread Des Pampling
	Hi
I am a blind user, and I do voluntary work for the State Emergency Service
in australia.
I tape meetings and then type up the minutes
I am using a Sony TCM 200 Cassette recorder then i record that to my
computer through Total Recorder, then burn it to a CD as a MP3.
What I am looking for is there anyone that knows of a type of microphone
that I can plug into my laptop and record the meetings straight through
Total Recorder.
It has to be good enough to pick up a room as a conference room as the
cassette recorder is really good at this.
I guess the Cassette recorder mike is a sensor mike and is omnidirectional.
I would appreciate any suggestions and help I can get.
Thanks

Wow, this is a real frustrating one. I really don't understand what the
problem could be, unless you some how have your recording parameters set to
mono. However, I think you have indicated that it at least appears that
they are correctly set. I'll think about this one, as I'm sure that other
listers will as well, and if I think I've made some progress in helping you
figure this one out, I'll let you know.

Good luck,

Hello,

Whenever I play a file from the internet using windows media player 10, the

Hi,

I haven't seen a Kurzweil keyboard for several years, but the one I did see
was fairly accessable.

However, I don't know which Yamaha keyboards you have been looking at, but
the DGX500 is a very accessable keyboard. It is an 88 note keyboard with
all the midi capabilities. The keypad does allow you to move through the
different voicing, rhythm styles and you can go directly to the voice you
want, such as guitar or strings, once you know the number. Just punch in 24
and you have that voice. It has a six track sequencer and disk drive. The
cost is very reasonable around $600 from Sam Ash catalog.

Hope that gives you something else to consider.

Re: Removing vocals

2004-12-16 Thread Curtis Delzer
What is basically done is to play both stereo tracks and reverse the phase
of one track, so when combined together in a mono file, the center channel
will disappear, (sort of) since there is usually flanging type echo or re
verb which will make the center channel still audible. If the center is
exactly 90 degrees from each side, they cancel each other out, since the
phase difference goes into effect in the combined mono signal. Now, if
someone could figure out how to maintain a stereo signal and get rid of the
center (usually vocal) channel, a lot of the older recordings could be
used for Karaoke music, though also you'd lose the base or drummer since
in a lot of those recordings, it just wasn't the vocals in the center.

Hi, Jonathan, the current version of total recorder can be downloaded
from
http://www.highcriteria.com/download/tr50se.exe
but you'll have to register it for $12 or else, you'll get a noise
inserted into your recording every minute. I have found total recorder
very worth while, and it is very accessible both with jaws, and
window-eyes, which is what I use. If you're using a previous version
of total recorder, the registration key has changed, so you'll need to
get a new registration key, but other than that, it works great.

Re: ACCESSIBILITY OF KURZWEIL KEYBOARDS

2004-12-16 Thread Kristine Hickerson

Hi all

Does anyone know if Kurzweil's keyboards are at all accessible?

I am thinking of buying a new keyboard, but it seems that even the Yamaha
newer keyboards are unaccessible. They used to have a numeric keypad to
select voices and styles, but it seems to have been taken away in the newer
keyboards.

Hi Anders. Well I don't know about the demo version of Soundforge, but I
purchased a fully function of Soundforge, and I have the Noisereduction
plug-in from directexxe. I purchased both, and the Noisereduction when I
ordered the previous version of Soundforge. I get those beeps when I try
to
use noisereduction; so I guess I have to register the noisereduction
 plug-in. I didn't think I'd have to do that, but I guess I do, since I
got
a new computer, and had to reinstall the Soundforge program. I hope this
helps. Maybe some others could be of more help.

First it seems that both people need to be running the same version of msn
messenger so I'd first check that. Then I'd check the fire wall settings.
It seems to me that msn doesn't work all that well for chat any more. It's
more hassle then it's worth and I suggest either Ventrilo which is
excellent or a service such as for the people or audio tips. There was a

Re: Recording in stereo

2004-12-16 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Tom, go into the record parameters dialog of total recorder, and
tab to the change button, and press the space bar, and look for the set
of two radio buttons that says something like ogg vorbis stereo only,
which is the bottom of the two, and that should allow you to record in
stereo, plus, if I'm not mistaken, in the mp3 tab in options under
settings, there should be a couple of buttons in there to indicate
stereo or mono as well, let me look. The set of radio buttons in the
mp3 tab are for stereo, and joint stereo, so the ones in the change
dialog of record source parameters would tell total recorder to record
in stereo, just make sure the bottom one of those is selected.

Hi Allison,
Well there are actually many ways to do this in. Just remember that many
newer audio CDs are copy-protected and to copy them you'll need another
program.

How is one way of doing it.
start nero burning rom.
press alt+r and down arrow to copy disk and press enter.
If the drives selected are not correct ctrl tab to either the reading or
the copying tab and select another drive for reading.
The rest should be pretty self explanatory. Else feel free to write again.

Hi John
I think you probably need to turn the microphone on in the record
properties of volume control. Bring up volume control then go to
properties, and set volume for record. when you press return after
properties, you should find a list of buttons to check, line, synth, cd
etc., and one of those will be microphone. You need to check that box.
Don't obviously know what sound card you're using but often if you check
one box it unchecks the rest, so if you do a lot of line recording you may
well need to re-check the line button when you've finished.. You might
also have a what you hear menu item, you could try that.

Hope that helps.

Re: Recording in stereo

2004-12-16 Thread Donald L. Roberts
Larry and other interested listeners, His Total Recorder parameters are set
correctly, I
guarantee it! I had Tom make a recording and send it to me as an email
attachment. I
played it with Total Recorder which told me that the recording had the desired
frequency
and sampling rates and was in stereo. So it is apparent to me that somewhere
in his
system, the leads are combined. Yet, if this were the case, it seems to me
that Tom would
not be able to listen to the stream in stereo as he does. So the bottom line
is that the
original is heard in stereo, but the recording sounds as if it is mono although
Total
Recorder indicates that it was recorded in stereo.

Good luck,

Larry

So no..it's not as if I'm trying to record from another source..or anything

Re: Help with a microphone problem

2004-12-16 Thread chrissie
Hi John

I think you probably need to turn the microphone on in the record properties of
volume control. Bring up volume control then go to properties, and set volume
for record. when you press return after properties, you should find a list of
buttons to check, line, synth, cd etc., and one of those will be microphone.
You need to check that box. Don't obviously know what sound card you're using
but often if you check one box it unchecks the rest, so if you do a lot of line
recording you may well need to re-check the line button when you've finished..
You might also have a what you hear menu item, you could try that.

Hope that helps.

ordered the previous version of Soundforge. I get those beeps when I try
to use noisereduction; so I guess I have to register the noisereduction
plug-in. I didn't think I'd have to do that, but I guess I do, since I
got a new computer, and had to reinstall the Soundforge program. I hope
this helps. Maybe some others could be of more help.

RE: WinTV cards

2004-12-16 Thread Tony Bernedal, SM5XGP

Hi.
I had some troubles with my houppauge winTV pr 150. I installed all the
software and driver but no luck, the software found the card and I could
program the tuner fine but no audio and video. The solution was to download
the latest driver for the card and also the latest decoders and after that
it works just fine both with audio and video.
Check out your brand and model and look at heir support page for the card.
Hope this helps.

I don't know off the back of my hand what the moddle number

I've installed a PCI WinTV card, and I've had no responce

and got a replacement but again, it is doing the same thing
the instructions say using XP. Just install the card into the

all this and still I've got no where

Re: Nero and playlists

2004-12-16 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Raul, if anybody knows, you probably may know this, and that is,
that I have an o e m version of nero express, and it is only nero
express, and not nero burning rom, and my problem is this. I can
create a compilation, and when I get to the burn screen, with
window-eyes 4.5sp4, there's a check box that says, allow files to be
added, multi-session, but if I check this box, and burn the cd, close
nero express, open it again, add a file I forgot, my original label
from the current recorder edit box is deleted, and when the cd is
burned again, with the added files, the cd drive shows the size of the
cd only in terms of the newly added file, so, not only are there
preferences for nero, but there are also settings for creating a new
cd, and specifically telling it how to handle sessions and such, but I
don't know how to get to these with nero express. I only see an 8 page
tab control under more options, and configure, but there's no session
tab, no labels tab to tell nero not to erace a label on an unfinalized
disc, and nothing to tell it, continue to fill the disc up until it is
full, and automatically finalize it, and apparently, nero burning rom
has all this, but this o e m version of nero express came with my sony
burner, so what can I do about this, I just thought I'd specifically
ask you, since you use window-eyes. Another friend of mine said that
nero express was the biggest piece of garbage he had ever seen, but
don't want to give up on this as long as I can, but find it very hard
to believe that nero express would not have all the options of nero
burning rom, even if laid out differently on the screen. This is on a
windows 98 se system with 192 megs of ram, and a 400 megs processor,
and I was also told that the sony cd burner was boarder line in terms
of my system requirements, and don't know if that would have anything
to do with this, since I close everything except window-eyes, and get
off line, before even starting to burn a cd. Thanks, and hope you guys
aren't tired of hearing this question repeated over and over in
different ways.

though. Simply brose to your playlist file and copy it to the clipboard
with control-c and then paste it into the Nero compilation window.

If you buy Sound forge and its noise reduction plug-in you don't need
 to
buy
Goldwave at all. SF has all you need and much much more. I think that
our friend Jarry Richard offers good price for SF. But of course,
goldwave also wil satisfy your need but its noise reduction is not so
good. The choice is only yours.
 Good luck!
