Griffin iMic

2005-11-02 Thread Caroline Ford
Hello,

I have quite a lot of recordings on cassette tape which I would
like to transfer to my PC. I have an on-board sound card, and the
recordings I have made so far have not been of particularly good
quality.

I have come across a few references to the Griffin iMic, which is a
USB device which is supposed to allow much higher quality
recordings, and would be interested to know if anyone ,as actually
used one of these and whether it works well. Does it come with its
own software, and if so, is this easy to use with Jaws.
Thanks,.

Caroline.?

RE: Sampling rate with iriver h320

2005-11-02 Thread David Truong
Hi Andre,

Yes, I have connected a stereo mic to my h340 and it sounded great. I have
some recordings of Goalball which I did with my iRiver. I recommend
changing the bitrate to say something like 128 or my preferred 160 or higher
if you are going to do stereo recordings. I have a document which tells you
how to change your recording settings from the record stand by screen. It's
a pretty simple document to follow. Write me off list if you need any more
help.

Subject: Sampling rate with iriver h320

Hi all

When using the very sensitive internal microphone of the Iriver h320, the
default sampling rate is set at 64 kbps mono. Of course it is not worth
recording with a stereo setting on the internal mic, but will you get any
significant difference when change the sampling rate to a higher bitrate.

Also, have someone yet tried to connect a stereo microphone to this player
and what were the results?

Just curious

Andre

Hi Gary,

I just heard about a site from some teenagers whilst doing a
dj job up in maine, about a site that might be helpful. Its:

http://www.letssingit.com

I've not tried it yet, but, allegedly, you can type in a few words to
a song and it will return artist, lyrics, and other info, alternative
versions, etc. Give it a try and I hope it helps you or someone else
in this quandry.

The easiest way to do this is to plug the lyrics you do remember into
Google. (You might want to put quotes around them, to eliminate some
irrelevant hits.) I do this all the time, and I almost always find something
useful.

How unusable is the proprietary software for transferring files? Can a
competent user of the JAWS cursor or Window-Eyes mouse pointer use it?
If I get one of these, I would want to transfer the occasional
recording to the computer, not do a lot of transfers, and not use it as
a mass storage or listening device. If using the proprietary software
means I can choose to make higher-quality recordings, I might want to
do so. I assume this quality improvement also applies to the 799 or 899
though I haven't researched the matter fully yet.

Re: a program for converting real audio to mp3

2005-11-02 Thread Marty Rimpau
Hi, Randy, try total recorder from
http://www.highcriteria.com
though there is no batch conversion, it will convert a .rm file to an
mp3 file, but you have to convert each of the files in real time.
Maybe another program like gold wave, or sound forge might offer batch
conversion. Total recorder has two versions, a standard version, and a
professional version. The standard version is $13, and is well worth
the money, but it does take getting use to.

RE: PC-to-Stereo Xxmitter

2005-11-02 Thread tunecollector
It is pretty basic and accessibility should not be an issue. You plug the
transmitter into the headphone jack on any device and it transmits a signal
to your stereo receiver. Then you tune your stereo to that signal.

Thanks for the reply. The recordings I have made so far through my on-board

There's no software involved. Just plug the IMic into a USB port; plug the
output of your stereo's amplifier into the IMic's in-jack; and make sure
whatever digitizing software you're using (I use goldwave.) is taking its
input from the IMic. (There is a selector switch on the IMic, which is
supposed to be for selecting between its input and output circuits. But I've
never figured out its actual function. Both input and output through the
IMic work perfectly well *regardless* of which setting I select.) And, once
you're wired up correctly, you should be good to go!

Good luck!

 Thanks,.

 Caroline.?

It is pretty basic and accessibility should not be an issue. You plug the
transmitter into the headphone jack on any device and it transmits a signal
to your stereo receiver. Then you tune your stereo to that signal.

I search for songs by typing a few words into google followed by the word

RE: PC-to-Stereo Xxmitter

Hi,

c crane makes a very good unit for 60
bucks or so, delivered. Its digital, does not
drift, and covers my entire house and out on the deck, as well. Call:

to order one by phone.

Rusty

It is pretty basic and accessibility should not be an issue. You plug the
transmitter into the headphone jack on any device and it transmits a signal
to your stereo receiver. Then you tune your stereo to that signal.

accessible file sharing programs

2005-11-02 Thread Denny Daughters
Hi guys,
I'd like to ask if anybody knows of any good free accessible file sharing
programs as far as getting mp3 or other music files? This relates to pc audio
because the files are downloaded to your pc and you listen to them in any one
of several audio formats via the pc. If any of you are offended or would
rather write me off list, that's fine too. Thanks.

Randy, there are quite a few programs, with which one can do that in
real time. However I only know of one, with which this can be done much
faster. It's called Riverpast Audio Converter and one can download a
shareware version from www.riverpast.com.

RE: a program for converting real audio to mp3

2005-11-02 Thread Aman Singer
Hi.
There are quite a few packages that can do this. These include Total
Recorder and other programs of its kind which can convert the sound file as
it plays in a player. I notice that others have mentioned these packages, so
I won't. The problem with them is that they need you to play the file
through. Therefore, a 1 hour file takes 1 hour to convert. Further, they tie
up the sound card. To get it done faster and without using the sound card,
try one of these packages.
http://www.rmconverter.com
has a shareware package called RM to MP3 converter.
http://www.dbpoweramp.com
has a free package which will allow the conversion of real audio to
wav and MP3, among other formats, for the first 30 days of use. If you want
to convert to wav after the first 30 days, it's still free. If you want to
convert to MP3 after the first 30 days, you have to pay $15, I believe. Of
course, once you have the files converted to wav, you can convert them to
MP3 quite easily with free packages like CDEX.

  There's no software involved. Just plug the IMic into a USB port;
  plug the

  sure
whatever digitizing software you're using (I use goldwave.) is
