I agree and what about warnings. Sometimes, this community can be very
unforgiving. I have seen people on this list imply that new people have
stupid questions, but to my knowledge they have never been band...

I hear and see words I'm not fond of every day.

Just my opinion and we still have a right to have one...

Wait just a minute. Wile I'll agree that the once off S bomb is nothing
to be upset over, I did see some of Lin's messages where he got on
people's cases for maybe not taking the time to read the whole page, this
that and the other, like everyone has to be as intuitive as he. One of
the people who protested the bann said he thought this list was to help
people. In Lin's case, he was being somewhat helpful, but in a way that
can be a bit offputting, especially for those people who may not be as
literate in some forms of computing as other forms. How would you feel
 if
you had a question and you asked, and someone came at you with an answer
like, RTFM! Some manuals are as off-putting as some people's additude
that everyone should be as smart as the writer who wrote the mannual.

 Think about that!

Hang on a moment, are we talking about multi track software as in the
software used to record multi tracks for music or are we talking
about broadcasting software, at least one of the titles mentioned
here I think is a broadcasting package which is far different to
 multi track recording/editing software.

AOL player controls was: great news for music lovers

2007-01-14 Thread Bobcat
It took me a while but I found out how to use the player controls.
It is fairly easy to find the player controls with Jaws.

1: When you are at the top of the page, Press h for header till you hear
Player Controls. You may only need to press h twice.

2: Use down arrow or tab to get to each of the controls.

press spacebar to toggle between stop and play
press delete to mute
Use the dash or equals keys to control volume

NOTE: The dash and equals keys don't work the first time. It seems you
need to activate play/stop or pause first. Also, these controls will not
work unless you are first focused on one of them. After one has been
activated, the spacebar, enter, and dash equals keys work anywhere on the
page.

Sorry, my instructions are not as clear as others might write. Hope they
work for anyone using this service with a screen reader.

Sure but once the station is playing, good luck finding the audio player
controls.

Also, they will want you to register in order to take full advantage of the
stations. Using that crappy audio description of the graphical serial
number.

Still the sound quality is excellent!

And as I tried now it will offer a program to install online so you just
accept and after that you can listen to the radio stations.

Windows Media Player tutorial for blind folk?

2007-01-14 Thread Kathy Szinnyey
Anyone know of any? I've been needing to add drm Windows media files to
sync with my Zen Nano player. Seems like every time I go through this
process, I do something different. It's so annoying! Even my sighted
husband can't get a handle on WMP, and other blind folk I know just wring
their hands in disgust and walk away. So any help any of you guys have to
offer, specifically for blind access, would b e most gratefully appreciated!

help for using Juice?

2007-01-14 Thread Carliss Smith
Listers,

I really need help in using Juice the podcasting program.

What I am really trying to say is, I need a straight forward understanding
of the program and how to use it.

I've played around with it and down loaded some podcasts but to tell the
truth, I don't want to go that way again, there must be a easier way than
what I took. I did get some podcasts to down load but, it wasn't easy.

So whoever can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,

 Hello Tom
After reading the messages, I can certainly see why you may have some
concerns. It is entirely possible that he was having a bad day or was
just being abbrupt for whatever reason. Personally I think your
action of banning him was a tad extreme, but everyone runs their
lists differently, and there also may have been private
 correspondence I didn't see.
You do run the list however and it is your decision to make.

At 07:10 PM 1/13/2007, you wrote:

he posted recently to the list are appropriate.

If he subscribes with a different e-mail list I'll deal with it.

Re: multi track software that works well or at all with jaws

2007-01-14 Thread G. McFarlane
Hi
I'm not sure that Adobe Audition scripts work with Version 8 of Jaws. I
certainly can't get them to work properly. I've written to the writer of the
scripts to find out which version of Jaws they work with. I think the ast
version I got them to work on was version 7.0, certainly version 6 ilm, but
at present I can't get them to work with 8. If anyone has them working
successfully with Jaws perhaps they could let us know the version.

 Hello all,
 Using Win/Mx, Jaws 8, and Win/Xp.
While I am downloading a certain file, and have another file waiting to be
downloaded, Can I stop the first file, put the download on hold, then go
 to
the second file and download it, then go back to the first file and finish
 downloading it?
Hope this is not too confusing and maybe I can get an answer.
 Thanks,

Hi,

This is the third announcement I've gotten concerning this
fine and enciteful podcast. I downloaded it the first time and
learned a lot from it. I've been eagerly awaiting the next part to
further my education on the use of replay a v. Is part two due out
soon? I hope the second notice of this podcast wasn't part two, as I
deleted it, having already downloaded the podcast the first time it
was available.

 Hi Dane
I fully respect your point of view, but I think removing a person from a
list is a very harsh thing to do, and there is a significant risc that a
blind person easely get trapped in the fact that when he get some power he
will for many reasons use it more agressevely then it actually requires.
there for I hope the moderator will try to get into a dialog with the
 person
about re subscribing to the list after a period of time he decides.

 Hi!
Nothing to do with me of course but if people have issue with any
steps a moderator of a list takes then I for one would be pleased (as
a list member) that those people who have issues to raise with the
moderator would do so privately rather than publically? I joined PC-
Audio to read about thigns to do with audio and not to her people's
gripes about what the moderator of the list does or doesn't do.

Re: Mobile Speak Pocket

2007-01-14 Thread tj
Hi
i ran a demo of mobile speak pocket, and was fairly impressed with its
operation. The technology sadly is priced in the expectation that agencies
for the blind will be the ones purchasing it and will have very large
budgets. Due to the nitch nature of our market, it is necessary to charge
high prices to subsadise the work of the engineers programers etc.

 Hello!

I recently purchased a Cingular 8525 PDA and downloaded Mobile Speak
 Pocket.

If anyone ou there uses this program, could you give me an idea of how
good it is? Also, I'd appreciate some info on getting the product as
inexpensive as possible, as it seems to be a little steap, more expensive
 than the phone itself.

Are there any places around that will subsidize this product. A list of
these, if any, would be appreciated. Why does adaptive technology cost so
much and how can we benefit from it if we can't afford it?

 Thanks for your assistance.

broadcasting software

2007-01-14 Thread Dane Trethowan
Yes, station Playlist creator isn't bad but in my view, I think its
an absolute toy compared to such broadcasting applications as SAM
Broadcaster or OTS DJ, these applications are incredibly powerful
though I'm lead to believe that they're not too accessible with Jfw,
most functionality of these 2 pieces of software is accessible I'm

Re: Win Mx question

2007-01-14 Thread Chris Skarstad
hi. Ok, silly question, why would you want to stop the first
download? I mean, why not just download both files at once? That is
unless you have some kind of issue that prevents it, I can't honestly
see why you would want to do such a thing. It seems like it would be
much easier to either download both files at once, or do one and then
download the next one without stopping the first one right in the middle.

Re: broadcasting software

2007-01-14 Thread hank smith
only thing I didn't like about sam was 1 the crossfaiding totally stinks
2. you have to program ids for your stations as far as where they go in your
rotation in pal scripting language, you have to schedule in programming
language
all most all of the telling it to do this at this timee has to be done via
scripts a really pain in the you know.

Yes, station Playlist creator isn't bad but in my view, I think its
an absolute toy compared to such broadcasting applications as SAM
Broadcaster or OTS DJ, these applications are incredibly powerful
though I'm lead to believe that they're not too accessible with Jfw,
most functionality of these 2 pieces of software is accessible I'm
 happy to say through Window-Eyes.

This sounds like great news! Now if we could only find something that will
help us set up our DVD's or DVD recorders so we can play and record any TV

Neal from the midi-mag mailing list is going to do a audio review of one of
these units when he gets it.

Here is the press release.

Three New Digital Audio Recorders for Note-Taking at Work, and
 Podcasts, Audio
Books and Music at Play

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., January 4, 2007 Olympus unveils three new
 DS-Series
digital voice recorders that bridge the gap between work and play. In
addition
to capturing audio of meetings, interviews and other critical
 information
expected of digital recorders, the new Olympus DS-30, DS-40 and DS-50 are
optimized
for downloading, listening to and creating podcasts. The new
 recorders' high
sound quality is also great for listening to audio books and music, making
   them the all-in-one audio device.

Software included with the devices makes downloading podcasts easy, and
 the
podcasts' contents are updated automatically each time the audio recorder
is
connected to or synchronized with a computer. Podcasts and
 other audio content
can be downloaded from any Web site. The new voice recorders are also
specifically designed to work with Audible.com, a leading online
 provider of
audio books and other spoken entertainment and information.

Olympus has done a fantastic job designing the new DS-Series, in
 particular the
voice guidance feature will have great appeal to both commuters and the
visually impaired community. This functionality is a great asset
 to anyone that
relies upon Audible for its audio programming, said Chia-Lin Simmons,
vice president Strategic Alliances, Audible, Inc. We are
 confident that the
combination of Audible's vast audio selection with Olympus, the technology
leader in digital voice recording, will be well received.

The voice recorders are also distinguished by a number of premium
 features,
including:

The highest sound quality in the Olympus line-up with the new
 XSHQ Remarkable
Stereo Sound Quality mode. The new DS-Series devices can record and play
audio
content up to 44.1 kilohertz (kHz), which is equal to the sound
 quality of most
CDs.
A convenient removable stereo microphone for recording high-quality
 digital
audio.
A Voice Guidance function that talks, confirming which settings have
 been
selected and helping visually challenged users to navigate the device.
Built-in memory from 256MB to 512MB to one gigabyte that enables
 amazingly long
recording times ranging up to 275 hours.
PC Link enables the recorders to connect to a PC via the
 included USB cable
for quick downloading of audio files to and from a computer. Our DS-Series
voice recorders have been used for years by professionals such as
 doctors and
lawyers to capture audio throughout their workday, said Andy Flagg,
director,
Sales and Marketing, Olympus Imaging America Inc. These new
 devices have moved
from the hospital and courtroom into their personal lives. With stereo
headphones and up to one gigabyte memory, the new devices are optimal
 for
holding virtual libraries of music, audio books and podcasts, as well as
the
   traditional voice recordings.

   Intelligent Stylish Design
These DS-Series recorders are sleek road warriors that can go anywhere
 to
capture audio for podcasts and interviews. As podcasters join the ranks of
lawyers,
doctors and other professionals who use voice recorders, they can
 rest assured
that they will have what it takes to get the job done. The new DS-Series
have microphones that can detach from their bodies and attach to a
 remote
controller (an optional accessory) to allow podcasters to clip the
DS-Series'
microphone onto a shirt or tie and record in high fidelity at the flip
 of a
switch. Recording in this unobtrusive manner with the recorder tucked away
in a pocket helps to keep an interviewee at ease, which in turn
 can lead to more
entertaining and informative podcasts.

Designed for optimal ergonomics with a high attention to detail,
 the recorders
feature a speaker for audio playback on the back, buttons for recording and
playback on the side, and easy-to-use arrow pads and buttons to
 navigate menus
on the front. Olympus even created a power on/off sliding switch so users
wouldn't accidentally turn it on. Coated in a sleek metallic exterior
 for
durability, all three models come with large, easy-to-read high-contrast
LCD
screens that display file information, recording time and
 settings. The DS-30
features a silver casing with an amber backlight LCD screen. The
DS-40 features
a dark silver casing with a white backlight LCD screen. The DS-50
 features a
blue casing with

Hang on a moment, are we talking about multi track software as in the
software used to record multi tracks for music or are we talking
about broadcasting software, at least one of the titles mentioned
here I think is a broadcasting package which is far different to
multi track recording/editing software.

Re: Audition

2007-01-14 Thread G. McFarlane
Hi Corey
It was Cool Edit first then became Audition. The latest version that works
with Jaws is 1.5. The current version 2 has been changed substantially and
is not supported with Jaws.
Probably it's the best if you wish multitrack in an audio program - my own
experience is that it does not work with Jaws 8 but works well enough with
Jaws 6 and probably 7.0.
Of course the best for multitrack using mide and audio is Sonar (formally
Cakewalk) but this only works, but works well, with specialised expensive
scripts available from 'dancing dots'.

Regards.

I'm not sure that Adobe Audition scripts work with Version 8 of Jaws. I
certainly can't get them to work properly. I've written to the writer of
 the
scripts to find out which version of Jaws they work with. I think the ast
version I got them to work on was version 7.0, certainly version 6 ilm,
 but
at present I can't get them to work with 8. If anyone has them working
successfully with Jaws perhaps they could let us know the version.

Re: Win Mx question

2007-01-14 Thread Morey Worthington
Hi Chris,
The first file I was downloading had a size of 111MB (not a missprint) and
was on it for over an hour and it was only at 24 percent. I wanted to go to
the second file, wwhich was only 5MB so I could get it done, then go back to
that really big file.
Hope this makes sense.
Is what I wanted to do possible, and if so, what keystrokes would a person
use?
Thanks,

Hi
I'm not sure that Adobe Audition scripts work with Version 8 of Jaws. I
certainly can't get them to work properly. I've written to the writer
of the
scripts to find out which version of Jaws they work with. I think the
ast
version I got them to work on was version 7.0, certainly version 6
ilm, but
at present I can't get them to work with 8. If anyone has them working
successfully with Jaws perhaps they could let us know the version.

Ok, well I'm not an expert here because I don't use multi track
software on my PC but if there are scripts for Adobe Audition then
that would seem to be a logical choice and perhaps Vegas.

audio from headphone jack on logi tech z-6 80 speakers

2007-01-14 Thread Wollner
Hi I on the logi tech z-6 80 5.1 computer speakers. And the audio that
comes out of them when I play them is fine. It is when I plug headphones in
to them is when I have to turn them up reallyloud just for the audio to be
heard threw the headphones that I am using. Now if I would unmute the sound
off of my computer and have them playing as loud as I have them to hear the
audio out of the headphones I would be really loud coming out of the
speakers. So is there a setting on these speakers control center that I
need to adjust or a button that I have to push when using headphones to make
the audio on the headphones be louder with out having to turn the speakers
up that high just to hear what is coming out of the headphones? So thanks
to everyone ahead of time for any assistance that my come my way on this and
I will look forward to reading anything that comes across the list dealing
with this.

Re: Station Playlist on ACB RI

2007-01-14 Thread Chris Skarstad
At 10:48 PM 1/14/2007, you asked:

how can I get it? You have to purchase it from:

  http://www.stationplaylist.com

do I need jaws scrips?
if so how much do the scrips cost, and how much does the program cost?
No JAWS scripts are necessary to use station playlist studio.
The program costs about $100, depending on which version you want.
you probably want standard since you won't be running a station full time.

what is the learning curb? easy to use or hard
Well, now that's subjective, isn't it.
What may be easy for me, may be hard for you, I mean we all have
different abilities.
so the best advice I can give you is to download the demo and give
it a shot for yourself. That's the only way you'll ever know if it's
easy or hard.

RE: USB skype phones

2007-01-14 Thread Tim Grady
Well, don't know anything specific as you did not give any information on
the phone, but when you said your computer went dead did you mean there was
a loss of speech? If that was it then nothing is wrong with your computer
when you hooked it up. USB phones have their own sound cards built into
them and as soon as you plug them in to the USB port they start using that
sound card. Just pick up the phone and you should hear your speech program
through it. Go to control panel/sounds. Click on the audio tab and fix up
your Windows defaults again.
