Re: Working with the Sandisk Sansa-270
I assume it's not trivial to tell whether a Sansa e200 is a v1 or a v2 model, since if it were, I'd assume the information I found on the web would have indicated such. Therefore, I doubt it says on the packaging whether you're getting a v1 or a v2 model. The best way to tell, from what I've found on the web, is to check the firmware level. Also, it appears that if it does mention Audible on the packaging then it is a v2 model. Timothy wrote: I honestly can't tell you since all the one's I bought were refirbished. From: Dane Trethowan grtd...@internode.on.net To: VIP-L Mail List vi...@softspeak.com.au Hi everyone! I've commented on list about the Dj package called Djay for Mac and how accessible it is, well that's correct however some of its functions are a little tricky to set up in particular the sliders for cross fading and so forth. I've done a Test Mix of the settings I've made at http://web.me.com/califeron/filechute/Test%20Mix%20from%20Djay.mp3 its a Mp3 mix of 4 tracks and you can hear how the cross fading and processing work, if anyone things it sounds ok then I'm prepared to do a podcast on how you set the package up, if people think it needs further tweaking then let me know. I told you at the time that I had reseated the patch cord into the PC without satisfactory results. Well, here's why I'm likely a good nominee for the Computer Audio Stupid Tricks hall of fame: I decided after being frustrated with this problem all week and trying a bunch of solutions--using a different tape player, etc., that I would just start again with the absolute basics. I knew beyond any doubt more sure of it than I was of being able to breathe, that I had inserted that cable properly and fully into my PC's audio input jack. But just for grins, I decided to give that plug one more little nudge. It already felt tight and in all the way. Well, you can all guess the rest, and by now I hope you're smiling just a bit. Trust me, you should smile guilt free about this; I've been laughing at myself since yesterday. When I gave that cord that little nudge, I heard it click just once more and felt it settle into the jack ever-so-slightly further. Of course, my problem instantly went away and I was again hearing my separate tracks in their separate channels as they should be. Well, that's what being arrogant and cocky will do for you. I was so absolutely certain I had that cord in there as far as it would go, but that extra eighth of an inch or so made all the difference. I figured I'd share my little story, since none of you have ever done anything like that and never will. Is that one of those 3.5 mm mini stereo jacks? I've noticed some are really hard to get that last little bit in. I've felt them very carefully and think the problem is they don't make the divisions between the different sections smooth enough. Some brands are much better than others. Anyway, I've done the same thing fairly recently thinking something was broken because I was sure the jack was inserted all the way. Not to steel your thunder for getting that nomination. Sound Problems
I have a P4 mother board from Intel with built-in sound. I'm using Nero 7. I want to rip some cds for play on a mono system. I check mono and the appropriate bit rate in Nero and the rip proceeds to what the software calls success. Problem is, the mp3s which I play are still in stereo. I don't know whether this is a Nero problem or a sound driver problem. I have no other system to test on. I'd appreciate some verification that mono works or doesn't work from someone else using Nero of 7 or later, or a suggestion as to what to look at or try. Thanks in advance. Been there, done that, as the saying goes. - Original Message - From: Nolan Crabb To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' Sent: Monday, February 16, 2009 3:18 PM Subject: I'm About to be Nominated to the Dumb Computer Audio Tricks Hall ofFame! List members, you may recall last week I presented a detailed explanation of a problem I was having with Sound Forge 9 and two stereo channels appearing in the same channel. In other words, I could hear both channels in each separate channel as though they had been mixed into a mono channel; hope that recap makes sense. I told you at the time that I had reseated the patch cord into the PC without satisfactory results. Many of you wrote back to encourage me to reinstall the audio drivers perhaps or possibly double check to ensure that Sound Forge was indeed recording in stereo in the first place. I want you to at least vicariously enjoy a good laugh or smile at my expense or along with me or whatever you prefer. I guess the moral of this little story is, no matter how sure you are about your connections, check'em one last time before you write this list. Thanks to all of you who wrote back and expressed your concern; I hope you'll forgive me for wasting your time reading and responding to that earlier message. Nolan, who can easily be recognized in a PC-Audio list group photo because he's the one wearing the embarrassed smile. Re: Intro and Help needed urgently, or at least fast
That's the problem. You need a headset that isn't USB. USB headsets can only use microhone output. If you get a headset that pluggs right into the soundcard you should be able to record your voice and speech - of course, this might depend, if your soundcard doesn't support the microphone in playback options. contact details: email: tcwoo...@shaw.ca and others msn: the_conman...@hotmail.com skype: the_conman283 system details: Hp pavillion dv5220CA notebook pc AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-37 2.0 GHZ, 1024 mb DDR ram, Fujitsu 100 gb 4500 RPM Hard Drive, connecsant AC-link audio - Original Message - From: Rob DeZonia robd1...@roadrunner.com To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, February 16, 2009 7:43 PM Subject: Intro and Help needed urgently, or at least fast Hi everyone, I'm Rob. Ok enough with the intro. lol I want to record a demo showing off a piece of software. I am running Windows Vista which is probably the cause of my grief. I am using a Logitek USB headset mic. What I would like to do is not only record my voice, but the speach synthesizer and the sounds of the software I am demoing. Using the Headset Mic, I can only get voice to record, none of the otherh sounds I need. I have a number of sound recording programs at my disposal including Sony Soundforge Sound Studio 9.0, audacity, goldwave. I can get none of these to record more than just my voice. I went to control pannel, sounds, went to the record tab and put it to stereo mix. When I tried this, absolutely nothing records, so the frustration level is very very high. lol Can someone give me a work around or even better a sollution so I can record voice, synthesizer, and sounds made by the software? I even tried total recorder to no avail. Thanks for your help in advance. Rob, the incredibly frustrated, non demo recording person. Re: software request
I don't know what that software was I didn't send it, but in case they don't get your message and don't send the software, here's a suggestion. It may not work, but it's worth a try. I've recovered more than one message this way. Look in your Deleted folder. It may take some time, but it's sure worth a try. In case anybody doesn't know how to do this, and I know most people do, just do a shift-tab and down-arrow to Deleted and tab into the list. Simple and obvious I know, but sometimes we overlook the most obvious. I know I have many times. - Original Message - From: Sylvia sylvia0...@gmail.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Friday, February 13, 2009 15:19 Subject: software request Hi list, A few days ago, someone sent me some software for splitting files. Unfortunately, I have lost most of my messages in outlook express and that particular messages was one of them. I would be greatful if the software could be resent to me. Thanks in advance. Sylvia. Re: Intro and Help needed urgently, or at least fast
I can't tell you exactly how to do this in vista but go to the playback properties in the volume control and make sure mic and wave volumes are checked. then close the volume control. you should here the synthesizer and your voice through the USB headset once you plug it in. in the record properties, make sure the stereo mix is checked and do the same within which recording program you choose to use. - Original Message - From: Rob DeZonia robd1...@roadrunner.com To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, February 16, 2009 8:43 PM Subject: Intro and Help needed urgently, or at least fast Hi everyone, I'm Rob. Hi, You can't use stario mix using a USB headset, as far as I know. Windows treats it as its own soundcard and I've yet to see one with stario mix capability. contact details: email: tcwoo...@shaw.ca and others msn: the_conman...@hotmail.com skype: the_conman283 system details: Hp pavillion dv5220CA notebook pc AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-37 2.0 GHZ, 1024 mb DDR ram, Fujitsu 100 gb 4500 RPM Hard Drive, connecsant AC-link audio - Original Message - From: Gary Schindler garys5...@comcast.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, February 16, 2009 8:43 PM Subject: Re: Intro and Help needed urgently, or at least fast I can't tell you exactly how to do this in vista but go to the playback properties in the volume control and make sure mic and wave volumes are checked. then close the volume control. you should here the synthesizer and your voice through the USB headset once you plug it in. in the record properties, make sure the stereo mix is checked and do the same within which recording program you choose to use. - Original Message - From: Rob DeZonia robd1...@roadrunner.com To: pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Monday, February 16, 2009 8:43 PM Subject: Intro and Help needed urgently, or at least fast Hi everyone, I'm Rob.
