Windows mixer is the standard windows volume control, sndvol32. It should
be on your system tray and can be found in
programs/accessories/entertainment. The Creative Audio console didn't have
tone controls for my card. But, there are tone controls for my card in

Do you have advanced controls in the windows mixer?

My older Creative card didn't have that option till I rebuilt my system.
Then all of a sudden, I had tone controls under the advanced button in the
mixer. Before that, I had to mss around with the Creative Surround mixer,
locking the Jaws cursor at just the right place and using Jaws mouse up
and

down key strokes to get the tone controls to work.

I hope your X-FI installer put in standard tone controls under advanced
controls in the Windows mixer.

I certainly agree with this. You can now not only tag files dependent on
folders, but also get tags from places like freeedb and musicbrainz,
provided you know the name of the album. An excellent program!

Speaking of Creative labs...

2009-11-30 Thread Brett Boyer
Hi. From the many experts and audio buffs I have talked to Creative seems to
be pretty low-end. Does anybody have reccomendations for a sound card that
is inexpensive and superior quality to Creative. I think people just buy
creative because of the name. Similar to Bowes. Anyway thoughts?

actually that is not really true.
the quality of the creative cards are quite good.
better then some of the other brands i have heard. other then that i would
go with some others that i have heard but are well out of a persons price
range but still the creative cards are great and the x-fi series is worth
the money that you would spend on it.

Hi. From the many experts and audio buffs I have talked to Creative seems to
be pretty low-end. Does anybody have reccomendations for a sound card that
is inexpensive and superior quality to Creative. I think people just buy
creative because of the name. Similar to Bowes. Anyway thoughts?

Re: Speaking of Creative labs...

2009-11-30 Thread Robert Logue
The real problem people have with Creative cards is poor drivers and
software support for low latency multi-track audio and multiple plug-ins for
digital audio work stations such as Sonar..

My older Audigy 4 pro sounds quite good and recordings are fantastic. But,
asio is a bit dodgy with some soft instrument plug-ins in Sonar.

I have not had experience with the X-FI cards yet. They should be just fine
for basic stereo recording and surround playback. But, if you are a
musician or media producer, you would be better off with more professional
gear.

I wish it was easy to compare the sound of different audio devices.

Bob.

Surround plugins hardware etc

2009-11-30 Thread David Reynolds
Hi,

I spend a lot of time listening to music through headphones, and have tried
on many occasions to find a piece of software which psycho acoustically
creates a feeling of depth through headphones. I've looked at a couple, but
none are particularly accessible. D

Does anyone on the list have experience of any hardware/software solution to
this problem.

Thanks,

David.

better then some of the other brands i have heard. other then that i
would
go with some others that i have heard but are well out of a persons
price
range but still the creative cards are great and the x-fi series is
worth
the money that you would spend on it.

Hi. From the many experts and audio buffs I have talked to Creative
seems
to
be pretty low-end. Does anybody have reccomendations for a sound card
that
is inexpensive and superior quality to Creative. I think people just
buy

creative because of the name. Similar to Bowes. Anyway thoughts?

Hi. I work for an fm rock station as well as several online audio projects
for vocals and voice acting!
That's why I probably need something a little more than the creative
stream but i thought I'd ask the list.

The real problem people have with Creative cards is poor drivers and
software support for low latency multi-track audio and multiple plug-ins
for digital audio work stations such as Sonar..

My older Audigy 4 pro sounds quite good and recordings are fantastic.
But, asio is a bit dodgy with some soft instrument plug-ins in Sonar.

I have not had experience with the X-FI cards yet. They should be just
fine for basic stereo recording and surround playback. But, if you are
a
musician or media producer, you would be better off with more
professional

gear.

I wish it was easy to compare the sound of different audio devices.

Bob.

Sonic Problem Solved

2009-11-30 Thread DJ DOCTOR P
High List members,
I had a sonic problem making recordings with Wave Pad Audio Editor yesterday,
and posted it on the list.
It took me a while to figure it out, I had to sleep on it.
Here is what I was doing wrong.
Default settings, wave PCM uncompressed.
That part was right because to make a high quallity recording, that's what you
want.
But the part that I had wrong was, 1125 HZ 64 bit stereo.
This is why my recordings had a dull sound to them.
The change that I made to the default settings is: wave PCM uncompressed, 96000
HZ 32 bit stereo.
That made the diffrence in the way my recordings sounded from then on out!
My question now is, can I apply these settings to any audio editing software?
  John.

RE: Speaking of Creative labs...

2009-11-30 Thread André van Deventer
It also will depend to some extent where the output sound quality is
concerned on what you use to listen to it. On a pair of computer speakers
or home theater system you may not really hear the difference between sound
cards. But if you listen to the output on a proper stereo hifi system the
difference in quality may be more evident.
