Re: [vip-l] Re: Audio Editing software
George what you can do in gold wave is use your fast forward and rewind f6 and f5 to find the place where you wish to make a split. Press f7 to pause, then control q to set a queue point. Once all your queue points are set, press alt e to open the edit menu, o for queue points, s to split. Here you can determine: where you want the files placed, track name, and the number you want the first queue point to start. if you want to move a section from one place to another. You find the beginning of the section with f6 and f5, press f7 to pause, [ to set the start point. repeat the first two steps to find the end of the section then press ] to set the end marker. Once this is done you can use any edit commands or effects commands. - Original Message - From: George Cham georgie.c...@gmail.com To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, December 19, 2009 10:56 PM Subject: RE: [vip-l] Re: Audio Editing software Hi Dane, I've got the hang ofrecording sound, bit am having trubble cutting and pasting selected parts that I want. Re: digital recorders
I think the dm520 is the one to get. The extra 2 gigs isn't the thing. It's the possibility of recording wav at 44.1 and 48 kHz. The dm420 does not. It only records MP3 up to 360k and wma up to 128k. Not bad but isn't it ever so nice to have that 48 khz wav? I've been messing around with the different mic settings. I find they work quite well. It is interesting combining different mic patterns with the 4 different playback 3d headphone presets. It records conferences and such really well. I also found the recording around my home with the unit on the table and setting mics to narrow results in a very realistic 3d playback experience. I was walking around my galley style kitchen with l shaped dining room. It could record me clearly all the way to my bathroom and down halls. When I played it back.. I was almost scared hearing my self walking around my suite. Quite a ghostly experience. I almost don't want to like the Olympus because they still do sum things poorly but this is such a good deal in a recorder, I can overcome my feelings. Besides, it's good to have an extra high quality recorder anyway. Think my next recorder is going to be the Sony d-50. I haven't heard anything better in a pocketable audio device, so far. In my opinion. the Olympus is about as good a pocket recorder as the Edirol. The Edirol whatsit has the edge in quality sound but not by much. But, that Sony sounds suite! Oh yah. Discovered using high sensitivity and auto recording works very well. The compression is easy to monitor too so one can get an idea where to set manual levels later. A few times the compressor was off balance, (only effecting the right side). An interesting bug in the compressor that has already taught me a lot how this compressor works. I'd say it is quite workable. On the other hand... Handling noise is just bad. But ironically, using high sensitivity, narrow microphone pattern, and the low cut filter can get better results. I really would like to hear some comparisons between the Plextalk Pocket, the GW Book Sence and my dm-520. Yes, though if you have acces to a dual deck with autoreverse I would suggest using it. I set my recording to stereo and have the autoreverse turned on. Thus, I get tracks 1 and 2 in the left channel and 3 and 4 in the right. The right is always in reverse so I select the right channel, control shift r, then press alt c r, to reverse that channel before saving. i save the channel, alt f v, as left.wav and right.wav. - Original Message - From: George Cham georgie.c...@gmail.com To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, December 20, 2009 3:09 PM Subject: RE: [vip-l] Re: Audio Editing software Another question Rob, Lets say I record sound on one side of a cassette. RE: digital recorders
Actually the Olympus DM series is more a music than a voice machine - hence the M in its name. Though it isn't semi-pro in its recording capabilities. I am interested, though, Have you personally used and compared both machines? I agree that the audio quality on the Pocket, if you add external mics may be superior, but it is much much larger than the Olympus and its in-built mike capabilities I think are inferior to the Olympus. As an all-rounder player and recorder, the Pocket has much to offer, but it is less convenient for quick recording tasks. the Olympus comes in to its own as a 'take-anywhere' real pocket-sized recorder, with excellent balance of features and quality for high-quality voice capture. I haven't seen the DM-520 yet, but will eventually get one for the reasons you have outlined. it isn't bad for the money. I think one of the things I like is the ability to split wave files into smaller ones. I think you can delete portions of a wave file too. - Original Message - From: Tim Noonan t...@timnoonan.com.au To: 'PC Audio Discussion List' pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Sunday, December 20, 2009 8:54 PM Subject: RE: digital recorders Actually the Olympus DM series is more a music than a voice machine - hence the M in its name. Digital Recorders
Hi! I haven't been following this thread till now so please excuse me if what I'm about to say has already been mentioned. If you by chance own an Iphone or New Ipod Touch then you already have a digital recorder right there in the palm of your hand, the Iphone has a built-in microphone but you can purchase a stereo microphone according to the Iphone User guide and that's where the fun starts and the Iphone becomes even more amazing than you already thought and knew it to be smile The Iphone comes with a Voice Memo recorder which does what it was designed to do well so let's take the art of recording to a whole new level on a mobile device with Voxie Recorder Pro for $2.50 Australian from the Itunes Store, connect your stereo mic and you're away recording at a maximum sampling rate of44.1KHZ stereo if that's what you need. Voxie Recorder Pro has many settings and features including Express mode, shake the Iphone to start and stop recording, you hear a tone from the phone when recording starts or stops. If you want to use the software for just voice recordings then take advantage of the transcription services offered by the software. Recorded something and you wish to transfer it to your computer or computers via your network or via the Internet through the world? No problem, record and share With Voxie Recorder Pro. Still finding out mroe about this software as I play with it more. Okay, I've had a few private emails about the email I sent earlier discussing the Iphone, everything I discussed also applies to the latter versions of Ipod Touch both 32 and 64GB versions so as you can see! you can have yourself quite a little cheap and accessible digital recorder smile. -- Dane Trethowan From Melton Victoria Australia mailto:grtd...@internode.on.net Phone United Kingdom 02032874641 Phone Australia :0390058589 Phone United States :8159261869 Fax (+61 3) 9743 7954 Mobile/SMS +61 438 571201 MSN grtd...@dane-trethowan.net skype:grtdane12 Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/grtdane blog: http://www.grtdane.wordpress.com __ Information from ESET Smart Security, version of virus signature database 4704 (20091220) __ The message was checked by ESET Smart Security. http://www.eset.com To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: pc-audio-unsubscr...@pc-audio.org
RE: Digital Recorders
What would the recording quality of this macnine be like I wonder? Andre -Original Message- From: pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Dane Trethowan Sent: 21 December 2009 06:08 AM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Digital Recorders Hi!
