2009-12-27 Thread Steve Pattison
Hi Barry,

Have you checked to see if there is a newer version of the cross fader
available that will work with more recent versions of Winamp? You may
have done this already but if not that could possibly be a solution to
the problem.

Regards Steve.

Nothing seems to work. Any idea what step I am not taking, or mis-taking?

slowly the machine goes through a list of NLS

What I know is that the PlexTalk Pocket is totally accessible,
 nicely
packaged, has both manual and automatic level control, and does a
 very
 nice
job of recording from the line injack. I doubt any other digital
 recorder
provides as much feedback, as this one is made for the blind. Of

there's no guesswork involved. It's nice to be able to monitor

 Hi all,

Just wondering, which one of the flash memory based recorders
 recently
discussed here, would be most suitable for making high quality
 recordings
from an external source via line-in? e.g. a satellite receiver.

I don't intend recording via microphone, so that particular aspect

 performance is of limited interest.

 Any views much appreciated.

Re: Pros and cons of varible bit rate

2009-12-27 Thread Dane Trethowan
That's pretty much how I reckon it should be but the only changes I'd make is
set VBR method to old - if better quality is what you want and you're prepared
to wait a little longer - and perhaps have several VBR profiles or presets,
each one having a different VBR quality setting, say one for music and one for
Audio Books.

Make sure encoding quality is set to highest, file will take longer to encode
but quality will be better and again, this is a different setting to the VBR
Quality but - as I recall - all settings in Easy CD DA Extractor are clearly
marked.

If you feel up to it you may like to turn off all filtering if its enabled and
- depending on what you're doing - you may like to disable auto sampling rate
and select that for your particular projects, 44.1KHZ if you're ripping CD'S
for example.

On 27/12/2009, at 10:57 PM, Sunshine wrote:

I finally figured it out. I found the manual online but it didn't have
anything about the audio capture.

If you want to record a stream like an online station you can play the
station then turn on the audio capture. Set the settings but don't check the

box to have it start automatically. Just enter on the start button and it
wil start recording.

If you have a stream that is a certain length rather than an online station
open the audio capture, set it up plus check the box fo r it to start
automaticallly. then hit cancel. Then when you start the definite stream the

audio capture will come up. There you can see what title it gives it plus
all the other info. It will also stop automatically at the end of the
stream.

The latest stable release is 3.98 as far as I know and I don't think there
have been any more releases.

Installation is simple, just extract LAME.exe and LAME-ENC.DLL to your
windows\system32 folder, CDEX and others should pick them up there.

2009-12-27 Thread Dane Trethowan
I wouldn't bother with the latest version if I were you, bugs in it so
I'd stick with Ver 3.98, as the old saying goes, If it ain't broke then
don't fix it.

I have it here if anyone wants it, email me privately.

Hi everyone,

I am a new member on the list and thank the moderator for letting me join.

I am wondering if there are any good programs out there to even out the
volume when you have volume discrepancies. Preferably free ones, but
would be interested in learning what I can.

Another is Levelator. It works great assuming there is no music in the file.

Re: a question about joint stereo and normal stereo

2009-12-27 Thread Gary Petraccaro
The problem I'm having is that my system won't produce regular stereo.
Everything comes out in joint and variable bit rate regardless of software
settings. It's Winamp which I'm using to tell me what my stats on a
particular file happen to be. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

My understanding is that joint stereo is a psychoacoustic trick to try and
make lower bit rate encoded files sound better in terms of their channel
separation. I don't believe the monoblock analogy is strictly correct. All
the advice I have seen is to use normal stereo for decent encoded files at
bit rates of 192kbps and higher and only use the joint stereo psychoacoustic
trick on very poor files encoded at lower bit rates.

Regards.

High George,
Joint stereo is, like you have a pare of speakers, but you have a mono block
amplifier on each one.
Regular stereo, is having those same pare of speakers hooked up to a stereo
amplifier.
The joint stereo, gives better stereo channel separation then the regular
stereo.
Hope this helps.
 John.

Subject: a question about joint stereo and normal stereo

Hi all!
I have a question which is making me curious. when I'm converting wave to
mp3 in a convertion program or so, I can see something called joint stereo,
and I can also choose if I would like to have it in joint stereo or just
stereo.
my question is, what's the difference between joint stereo and stereo, I
can't seem to hear any difference at all there.

2009-12-27 Thread Les Gordon
something doesnt seem right there because you can control in the software
the type of bitrates, and stereo types. and once those are saved then they
dont change. i am using itunes. and all my settings are saved perminently.
