Looks like you can get CDex from http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/.

WMP works for me when it comes to ripping CDs to the hard drive; I
like it because, right out of the box, I found that it was already
putting the titles with the tracks (CDEX doesn't do it; you have to
tell it) but in my opinion, both programs work fine; it's all in what
 you like!

Hello again. I use CDEX for this purpose, and I think that
 was
the program we used when I was on the phone with you. You'll run
 into
the same problem that you had before, if it won't recognize the cd
info. It will make a folder called no artist, with a folder
 called no
title inside of it, if you set it up this way. Then you'll need to
rename the folders, but the ID3 tags won't be filled in properly,
though you could tab through and fill in the artist and title info
before you hit f9 to extract into mp3. F8 extracts to .wav, by the
way.. If you take the time to do the filling in of the info before
extracting, then the folders that are created will be relevant.

text. Ir could be next to the edit box with the problem, or it could be
near the top after you've hit the submit or send button. I'm sure there
some error text somewhere. That; or there are bigger problems that I canot
 help you with. I know I've created a u.s. account and a u.k. account. I

Re: putting cds on a hard drive

2011-08-12 Thread Rick

Hi,

Why not use a program that will rip in flac? It's a lossless codec, and is
about half the size of a wave file.

Itunes is a huge bloated piece of crap! The only benefit is, if you want to
buy their music.

I don't know if exact audio copy will handle flac, but I'd not be surprised
if it did. It's most likely the best for ripping cds, because of it's
exacting standards.

One more note, not all mp3 encoders are created equil. I don't know, but
would suspect that, Apple does not use lame. However, I have no evidence
either way.

The nice thing is, once can convert from flac to wave and from wave to flac
and no loss will happen.

Hope I'm wrong, but that's what I'm seeing so far. Anyone have any other
ideas? So much good stuff from England I can't play. Boohoo!

Peace,
Kathy

Okay, all right, I give up! I want to play several dvd's that come in PAL
format, but of course I live in the U.S. where you have to figure out a
means of playing them. Anyone know of either accessible software or player

I
can find to play these? Sad sigh!

Peace,

Cdex does in fact automaticly fill out the information, provided you set

WMP works for me when it comes to ripping CDs to the hard drive; I like
it because, right out of the box, I found that it was already putting
the titles with the tracks (CDEX doesn't do it; you have to tell it)
but in my opinion, both programs work fine; it's all in what you like!

Hello again. I use CDEX for this purpose, and I think that
was
the program we used when I was on the phone with you. You'll run
into

the same problem that you had before, if it won't recognize the cd
info. It will make a folder called no artist, with a folder called
no

title inside of it, if you set it up this way.

Itunes is a huge bloated piece of crap! The only benefit is, if you want
to buy their music.

I don't know if exact audio copy will handle flac, but I'd not be
surprised if it did. It's most likely the best for ripping cds, because
of it's exacting standards.

One more note, not all mp3 encoders are created equil. I don't know, but

Hi,

Why not use a program that will rip in flac? It's a lossless codec, and
is about half the size of a wave file.

I don't know, but
would suspect that, Apple does not use lame. However, I have no evidence
either way.

The nice thing is, once can convert from flac to wave and from wave to
flac and no loss will happen.

The subject probably says it. Many of the cd's I have are some which
 I
made, so they are probably less permanent than commercially made
 disks.

I'm looking at putting their contents onto a large hard drive.

Has any one doone this? What is the best way to do it? Would each

have to be in its own folder?

I look forward to whatever you come up with.

hi, i agree about itunes, theres parts of it thats not accessible that well.
but to rip or import cds into a hd it works perfect for that. i have no
problems. flac is great of course, and yes lossless quality, but not as
compatable with blu-ray players for playback, wave format is much more
compatable between players computers. thats why i went with putting my
music in wave format.

vlc media player tutorial

2011-08-12 Thread mbern6516

Hello everyone,
Does anyone know where I can find an audio tutorial that demonstrates
using vlc media player? I know that Blind Cool tech had someone record
a two-part podcast about it back in 2006, but as with many of their
podcast links, the links no longer work. So, I was just wondering, if
there were any audio tutorials regarding the use of this software
available anywhere online. Thanks.

Hi,

Wasn't there a utility that would do the file transfers? Now, this was a
few years ago, so may not even be useful now. I didn't pay much attention
to it, and as we all know, 4 years is a long time.

What I would personally do, if I had an ipod etc, would be to use itunes
only for that purpose.

I feel like I'm being an old fuddy duddy, but I know my younger self would
agree.

Howver, there ae people who like itunes, and it does everything they want.
To those people, I say, More power to ya. I'm not trying to giv my
oppinion as gospel, merely how I view the world.

Choice means compitition, and the ability for people to find what works best
for them in any given project. Kinda like the old argument about what linux
editing env works better.

hi, i agree about itunes, theres parts of it thats not accessible that
well. but to rip or import cds into a hd it works perfect for that. i
have no problems. flac is great of course, and yes lossless quality, but
not as compatable with blu-ray players for playback, wave format is much
more compatable between players computers. thats why i went with
putting my music in wave format.

I agree about iTunes. Unfortunately, for those of us who own an iPod
Touch, iPhone, or iPad, it's a necessary evil.

 Hi,

Why not use a program that will rip in flac? It's a lossless codec,
and is about half the size of a wave file.

Itunes is a huge bloated piece of crap! The only benefit is, if you
 want to buy their music.

I don't know if exact audio copy will handle flac, but I'd not be
surprised if it did. It's most likely the best for ripping cds,
 because of it's exacting standards.

One more note, not all mp3 encoders are created equil. I don't know,
but would suspect that, Apple does not use lame. However, I have no
 evidence either way.

The nice thing is, once can convert from flac to wave and from wave to
flac and no loss will happen.

hello joe, itunes program is a free download, yes you can buy music
through itunes, but you can also import all your music cds into your
computer using itunes. it works great. and you can set the audio
quality weather its mp3 or wave. all mine are in wave format at its
 highest quality.

 Hello, Les,

I thought itunes was a place to purchase songs or albums. Didn't
know it includes a program for backing up cds.

Do I get that from itunes_com?

hi, i use itunes, and you can put each cd into its own folder. and
 all my
music i use wave format, whatever the highest quality setting itunes
 offers.
and it works great, once you have it on your hd. you should also
 backup your
hd onto a 2nd hd drive. to be safe. i just finished doing that today
 with my
 music.

Has any one doone this? What is the best way to do it? Would each disk have
to be in its own folder?

I look forward to whatever you come up with.

2011-08-12 Thread Christopher Chaltain
Right, I looked up DVD-43, and it works at the device driver layer, so
you would need a 64-bit version of DVD-43 to use on Windows 7 64-bit.
VLC is an application though, and 32-bit applications should run just
fine on 64-bit operating systems.

Well, a friend of mine sent me the executable for something called dvd-43,

I got the message that it wouldn't support 64 bit 1 so I had to uninstall it.
 but I'll check out
this link you sent me for which I thank you. Peace, Kathy

What makes you think VLC won't run on Windows 7 64-bit? It's just an
application, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. According to
 http://www.x64bitdownload.com/downloads/t-64-bit-vlc-media-player-download-sdloebue.html,
it sounds like it should work just fine on both 32-bit and 64-bit
 operating systems.

It does look like there may be a 64-bit version of VLC out there though.
I'm not exactly sure what advantage this would have though, but using
Google, you might be able to find out where to download such a beasty.

Hope I'm wrong, but that's what I'm seeing so far. Anyone have any other
ideas? So much good stuff from England I can't play. Boohoo!

 Peace,
 Kathy

All I can suggest is VLC. It plays almost everything.

Okay, all right, I give up! I want to play several dvd's that come in PAL
format, but of course I live in the U.S. where you have to figure out a
means of playing them. Anyone know of either accessible software or player

 I
can find to play these? Sad sigh!

 Peace,
 Kathy
