Playing audio-described pal dvd with jaws 12 and windows media player

2011-10-08 Thread Kathy S.
Hey, all! Does anyone know how to get to the submenu in media player that
lets you choose audio description? My sighted husband can find that choice
using our hewlit-packard dvd player, but so far we can't figure out how to
find that special feature menu in windows media player with jaws. Any help
would be hugely appreciated!

Kathy

p.s. sorry if this is a re-post. Something really funky is going on with
Outlook, so I'm not always sure what gets sent and what doesn't. Sigh.

RE: Accessible PC to TV devices?

2011-10-08 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi Kathy.

From what I understand the only TV streaming device that's accessible is
Apple TV. I have one of these and it works quite well. For $99 you can't
beat it in my opinion.

Thoughts on Roku

2011-10-08 Thread Max G. Swanson
We have a Roku, and it's a great value but not accessible if that's what
you mean. From the sighted perspective, channels aren't organized really
well; in fact there are a couple paid programs available to create better
browsing environments.

Apple TV will give more audio feedback as many of us have heard; however,
the Roku is a great value and works well. Of course Netflix is well on
its way toward becoming the Western Union of the 21st century as far as
bad decisions go, and it's a major source of programming for the Roku. I
found Pandora access on it rather clumsy, but again the music sounds good
once you grab it.

2011-10-08 Thread Victoria Vaughan

Hi Dan, I have not done this, but here are the steps given by Anna Dresner:
Good luck! Vicky
1. Connect the iPod. When iTunes opens, if you're asked if you want to sync
with your iTunes library, say no, and enable disk use.

2. Use Windows Explorer to copy the iPod Control folder into the folder you
use for your iTunes library. This will copy all the music, but the file
names will be seemingly random combinations of letters and numbers.

3. Go to PReferences in iTunes by pressing Control-Comma. Switch to the
Advanced tab in this multi-page dialog box, and check the Keep iTunes media
folder Organized check box.

4. Go to the File menu in iTunes, choose ADd Folder to LIbrary, and select
the iPod control folder. All the music will be added to your iTunes library,
and iTunes will name all the files based on their tags, so if the title,
artist and album tags are correct, the music will be named and organized
correctly.

the iPod in my iPhone.

I would appreciate any help.

Best Olympus Recorder?

2011-10-08 Thread Max G. Swanson
Just looked thru the Product Search App from J.J. Medaugh for Olympus
Digital Recorders; there' quite an array. Any recommendations? Stereo
would be a plus as well as MP3, but I'm also interested in indexing short
notes and messages fed to me via phone.

Tried a Plextalk and was disappointed to find that you lose all calendar
indexing when backing up voice memos. All ideas on or off-list are
appreciated.

Hi Dan,

You say Where can I get a good crossfading plugin such as SQR Soft advance
Crossfading? Well if that one is good and you are not
looking for something to work with a different player than Winamp, why not use
it rather than looking for something else? I realise
the home page at http://sqrsoft.com.ar appears to have gone, but you can still
get it from various places including the Winamp site
at http://www.winamp.com/plugin/sqrsoft-advanced-crossfading-output/32368

If the one on the Winamp site is not the most recent, which I think is version
1.7.6.1180, and you can't find it elsewhere, let me
know and I will email it to you.

Thanks,
Barry Chapman

Re: pogoplug

2011-10-08 Thread Dave Bahr
it is both. you can get a pogoplug hardware, but I think, from the
description I could tell, it's pretty visual or completely inaccessible.
However, I got the software to work on one computer and can't on the
other, the laptop isn't connecting right nor is it accessible for some
reason. I could get it to work on my desktop, not sure if it's a scripts
thing with window-eyes or what, haven't had time to troubleshoot between
the two comps. All I want to do is stream media from one comp to
another, and this looks like the ticket, but if I can't get it to work
then there's no point, ya know?

RE: Best Olympus Recorder?

2011-10-08 Thread Hamit Campos
The best quality one I've seen thus far is the LS-7. You can index your
files I think, but if the LS ones are like the DM ones they are Olympus
marks. I mean that only the recorder can see the marks. Is that what you
meen by indexing? Like putting a mark into a file like in Sound Forge or
Studio Recorder? If it's the date and time kind of thing, it does that by it
self. That's what the name of the file will be.
