Subject: Looking for Accessible Digital Recorder

Hi all. Wonder if anyone can please advise. My trusty Olympus DS40
has bitten the dust, so I'm looking for an accessible and affordable
digital recorder to replace it. I'm based in the UK and am mainly
looking to use a future device for interviewing and field recording
for documentaries (music, atmosphere, particular activities such as
sounds from sports training and the like).

Although I have ageneral understanding of production procedures I've
never looked at different devices with their pros and cons, and my
only knowledge in terms of accessible equipment is the Olympus line
(and I don't even know if that's as accessible as it used to be). For
example, I'm used to recording by plugging a proper mic into the
appropriate jack (usually an SM58), but I know that some machines have
dual microphones an I don't know how acceptable the quality of
 internal microphones is these days.

 Any help much appreciated.

 Danny

Onyx 820I, capability question

2012-12-25 Thread Lee Mounger
Greetings and Merry Christmas All,

As per the advice on this forum, I bought and love my Onyx 820i. Using the
Onyx along with Sonar 8.5 Producer and a Usb Keystation 61, I really like what
I can do with soft synths I'm using. So, I have what might be a dumb question
or might not be. After performing Onyx operations on sounds coming from Sonar
and soft synths and getting something I really like going into my monitors or
headphones, can I patch the new sound back into Sonar for recording or is it
even possible? If it is, I'm sure it's probably quite simple. Coming from a
live performance background and being a relative newbie at recording, I'm still
getting a little bogged down with various connections, etc.

By the way, forum folks were right on. The Mackie Onyx series seem to be
extremely accessible. Don't know if it will fit everybody's needs but it sure
looks like it's going to fit mine.

Vhs Capture Software

2012-12-25 Thread Lee Mounger
Greetings All,

I just purchased the Hauppauge 610 capture device for capturing vhs tapes to
avi, mpg files etc to save them. The winTv software that came with it doesn't
seem to be accessible and and it doesn't seem to work well with Total Recorder
8.3 audio-video either. Can someone recommend some accessible capture software
to try with the Hauppauge or if not, an accessible combination of another
capture device and software. Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
