Thoughts on the New Victor reader Stream?
Hi, Folks. I'm considering buying a new Victor Reader stream. A few questions: Does it have an adapter for readingNLS cartridges? How do you get the Reader to sync up with an encrypted wireless connection? I have the previous Victor Reader Stream. What makes the newer one better? Is it worth purchasing? What do you like or not like about the newer one? Thanks in advance for any feedback you might have. Re: Thoughts on the New Victor reader Stream?
I am going to by mine next month if all goes wel. I think the new stream could've been a bit better, but there are enough bennifits for me at least. First off, the old stream does only charch on the adapter. No USB charching of any kind is supported. And that is sick in the time we live in. So now the new stream does not just support charching via USB, but it also charch with a pere USB adapter and only have one port wich dubble as both an charching and connection port. The thing I like about the new interface however, is that you can now charch and listen wile its connected to the pc. Connect it wile the unit is turned on, and it will charch and stil be able to play and be usable. Turn it off and connect and turn back on again and the pc will see it as a mass storage device like the old stream did. I am also sick and tired of stupid Samantha and tom drink to much wisky and so the newer acapela voices are more than usable. They really are what I can use for long hours of reading. I love the fact that now on the new stream you can set the sleep timer in custom incriments according to your set time, and not only the presets they always allowed. And the way the clock works is also very unique. They seprit the clock menus from the regular player menu. That is ausom! Also the fact that all features are now available on the unit without the need for a softpack installation. And now it can do line in recording. It no longer support recording of 3gp but mp3 and wave only. That is just fine. As far as I no about the wifi situation, you have to either type in the network info manually, or scan for the network and add it that way. You might be able to add an incrippted network but I doubt it can sync. Although you can confirm that with humanware. Maybe someone on the stream list will no more there. And they might also help with the nls thing, I never saw any notes regarding the presents of such adapter like the old one. And I'm not in the US, and I didn't see the player yet. Hope this help a bit. On 21/09/2013, Matthew Chao mattc...@verizon.net wrote: Hi, Folks. I'm considering buying a new Victor Reader stream. RE: Thoughts on the New Victor reader Stream?
Excellent summary, Aidan. I have the new Stream, but I haven't tested all the features you mention, including the Wi-Fi connection. I'd add a few notes. First, the new Stream reports how much battery charge is left in percentage terms, and also how much power has been restored during recharge. Second, when you move from shelf to shelf, the Stream remembers where you were in each one even after the unit is powered down. On the old device, the Stream remembered only where you had been when the unit shut down, but not where you'd been on each shelf. Third, for NLS users, the new Stream moves faster between titles at level 1. Fourth, the speaker is significantly louder and clearer. Fifth, the unit is smaller. As I recall, HumanWare says it's smaller by a third. I didn't think it would matter, but it does. My sixth point could go either way. The buttons are much more sensitive. The drawback is that if I move while carrying the Stream on its strap and it even lightly touches clothing or something else, a button is certain to be pressed, interrupting my reading and forcing me to press a key or two to get things going again. Despite this occasional annoyance, I like how responsive the keys are. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Aidan Sent: Saturday, September 21, 2013 1:09 PM To: PC Audio Discussion List Subject: Re: Thoughts on the New Victor reader Stream? Re: Thoughts on the New Victor reader Stream?
Yes, I suggest if the new stream keys are to sensitive that you lock the keypad. The booksense is very nice, but the only thing I think the hardware is not that good, and it runs on windows c e wich give many people problems. I find that the stream have a more natural and clearer sound with audio, and are more stable. I have a lot of players, and I have experienced them all, except the milestone player. And between all of them I would say that the stream and pocket is the best. I need both of those too, as they have dramatic differences at some places. The booksense recording is not that good, wile the stream produce a reasonably good recording, and now even in stereo if you can connect a stereo microphone. The pocket record the best of them all but it always record in daisy, and although its a good thing, its not always the most convenient. Also the problem with pocket is that if you move around in audio they only allow for time jump of 30 second and ten minuts, wich is not enough veriety. You can rewind and forward by five seconds but if you do that the audio is muted and you never no where exactly you will stop. This is where the stream really shines. That is why I use both of them. With text files the stream con't play word .doc files, but only .docx. So then the pocket is very handy as it support both, the booksense also support both but unfortunetly the documents wich have headings the headings don't show up in the booksense but it does show up on the pocket. With other text files the pocket is also good but it con't highlight passages, and the stream can, so depending on weather you read for leager or studying, you might want to choose there. At least with this new stream you will always be able to charch on USB even if the battery is completely flat, with the pocket you can only do it wile the unit is off, and with booksense if it died completely you have to charch with the a c adapter first before you can use the USB charching, as it needs to boot up and reset again. Sadly my logitech headset seems not to work with the booksense. /A 21 sep 2013 kl. 21:45 skrev Brian Olesen br...@blindkom.dk: Hi, Another more interesting unit is the one from Hims International. It's called book sence. This one you can connect to a speaker system via bluetooth. It has an FM radio and is loaded with tons of other useful nice features. But the Victor Stream 2 you asked about also is a very nice daisy player. The new version even has stereo recording.
