I haven’t physically seen the newer models either and I don’t think I really want to see them, would make me physically ill. Bare in mind too that an iMac an’t cheap these days, I love my Mac but how the hell Apple expects to sell these machines by lowering Specifications and charging like wounded bulls I just don’t know or perhaps Apple just don’t care. > On 22 Mar 2016, at 10:30 AM, Hank Smith, and Seeing-eye dog Iona >wrote: > > I haven't seen the > newer mac mini so I can not comment on that. You know Bob? You're right. I forgot about this. Yes there's a different mind set. Like that whole interacting with tables and things. I now get it and it does make sence but yeah at first hearing the podcasts on Blind cool tech I was all like what the hell? Why do that? So yeah. -Original Message- From: Pc-audio [mailto:pc-audio-boun...@pc-audio.org] On Behalf Of Robert Nelson Sent: Monday, March 21, 2016 5:40 PM To: 'PC Audio Discussion List'Subject: RE: Thinking seriously on an Imac rather than a new Windows 10 Perhaps but you must understand that learning about Mac OS and VoiceOver is only the beginning. If you had no experience with windows, you would accept that the awkward way things are done in MAC OS is normal but with a little experience of windows you will find yourself trying to work out the mind set of those who devised the OS and VoiceOver. However, given your experience in windows you may find that something like audio editing has a steep learning curve. Yes, I know that Garage Band, Amadeus Pro and Twisted Wave are very good audio editing programs for sighted people but for a blind person they can be very frustrating. The question you should be asking yourself is: is there anything that I would want to do that can only be done on a Mac and, if so, is it important enough for you to justify the outlay, considering that most of the things you might want to do are possible through your I Phone. Anyhow, excuse me while I duck around the back to avoid the arrows and flames of the Apple fans! RE: Thinking seriously on an Imac rather than a new Windows 10
Perhaps but you must understand that learning about Mac OS and VoiceOver is only the beginning.
I use my Mac Mini for audio work pretty much all of the time and there's no doubt about it, the Mac is far more flexible than a Windows machine when it comes to audio work. That's not the fault of Windows by the way, its just the way things are. To put it bluntly when you're dealing with Windows then you're dealing with hundreds of thousands - if not millions - of hardware/software configurations whereas with a Mac everything is of a standard so configuration problems are illiminated which means a smoother flow in the way audio is handled and customised by the user. You use Goldware to record you say on the Windows PC? Well you'll find plenty of accessible Apps out there to suit your needs, my favourite is Audio Hijack 3 and that's just one. You might find it of benefit to follow the mac-update Twitter feed which posts updates to Mac Apps when they appear. You can then follow the updated App on the App store, download it and test it. SV: Thinking seriously on an Imac rather than a new Windows 10
Hi, Honestly Mac computers are pretty cool and often relatively more stable then windows pcs. But VoiceOver is far from being as complex as for example Jaws, so it relies more on apps being VoiceOver compatible. And it took quite a lot of time before a reasonable scanner application got available for the blind. Also advanced spretsheets stil lacks in terms of speech, so for a job computer I'd still go the windows route. But programs like audacity works fine on mac, many other music apps are working good as well and so on. Microsoft Word used on a windows machine stil is the very best and most powerful advanced word processor around for the blind. Pages is sweet, but doesn't come close in functionality. Just passed easter I get a new Windows 10 machine with ssds disks, which I'm looking forward to. I've used all the other windows versions uptil now, so I'm very curious to try this one out as all my friends tells me that it's super stable and extremely fast compared to earlier Windows editions. apple has a special toll free tech support number for blind and visually impared users. the department only works with ones using voice over. and there very helpful. you can get support for mac, ipad and iphone and ipod. - Original Message - From: "Chris Skarstad"To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Monday, March 21, 2016 3:52 PM Subject: Re: Thinking seriously on an Imac rather than a new Windows 10 I don't know if they'll give you any actual special treatment because you're blind but there are plenty of resources out there such as Applevis, and there is an email list called Mac visionaries.
