Subject: Editing WAV file with Goldwave

Hi again all.

I would have sent this request to the Goldwave list, of which I am a member,
but have lost their email address.

But this enquiry is also very much a PC Audio question and I'm sure there
are members who could put me straight.

I recorded my local quire using my Zoom and ended up with a large WAV file.

I know how to chop it up into tracks using GW, but, and I need to be honest
here, I was rather drunk when I was recording the concert and sitting too
closely to my tripod, so this lovely recording is runed by the loud shouting
and clapping from a drunk and I want to cut, me, out!

I've got a copy of John Wilsons book concerning goldwave editing commands
and what it says is place a left bracket at the start of the offending piece
of recording and then a right bracket, at the end of it and then simply
press the delete key and the offensive material should be deleted.

Problem is when I do this I delete all of the file completely.

I cannot find the left or right bracket keys on my keyboard, but I have
found the left and right perin keys. Are they not the same thing guys or am
I missing something?

Any advice with this one would be fantastic as I really did mess up much of
the recording with my enthusiasm and apart from my audio presence, the
recording turned out rather very nice.

Very best wishes.

Andy.

Hi.

I'm also looking for a tagging program. Winamp was great, because you could
have an empty tag, and it would fill it with what it thought was correct.
It was sometimes way off, but for the most part it worked well. From my
experience, programs like Mp3 Tag require some information in the tag to
work. Too bad Sound Hound doesn't have a program for the PC. It has the
basic features that would automate this work.

Just curious.

Laurence,

I used Audition 1.5 for a long time, and liked it. There are two things I
can suggest. First, make sure that the sound you are hearing is really
part of the file
and not a problem with Audition's playback. Create the file using the
center channel extractor and then play it with another program such as
Windows

Media Player.

Second, I was thinking that the center channel extractor did more than
just combine channels, and it is possible that combining channels will do
most of
what you want to do. Try just combining channels and see whether it
avoids the problem and gets you most of the way there or not. I think
there is an
item to do that but don't remember where it is any more, or you can
probably do it by creating a monaural file.

I had to let Audition go because I couldn't get it to install on a 64-bit
system. It was more complicated than that as I had upgraded from previous
versions
and couldn't install one of the previous versions that was required. I
wonder, though, if there could be some incompatibility with Windows 7.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

The main process involves the Centre Channel Extract function
(since most surface noise is out of phase), and it works very
well, often needing nothing else to be done.

However, the resulting file has a low-level repeated burst of
phase distortion, a sort of meep ... meep ... meep, which can
be very distracting.

I've tried playing with the settings but nothing seems to help
much, likewise filtering doesn't assist as the meeps are too
wideband.

Any ideas as to what it cold be and whay I could do about it, or
is it just something I'll have to put up with? (Up with which I
will have to put).

Subject: need helping with humming on blue yeti pro.

hello I am a blind pc user, I own a blue yetti pro, I use it on the stand
that it came with, and it is a very good mic. my problem is that I have a
tower under my pc, with a five inch fan that is on top of the pc and it
blows air up. when my mic is on I hear the fan of the tower, but that is not
the problem.
like I said because my tower is under my desk and the mic sits on top of the
desk I hear a humming coming from my desk, I think it's the fan that is
blowing under the desk. now when I take the mic off the desk the humming
goes away, so I think that the humming is coming from air hitting bottom of
desk. now I bought a shock mount, but the hummming is still there with the
shock mount. and again once I lift the mic off the desk the humming goes
away.
is there anything I could do for this. some one suggested a boom arm, but if
I get one will I have to take the mic off the stand to attach it to boom
arm. any suggestions will be appreciated.

thanks so much.

Goldwave noise reduction is not up to Sony's but also some of the Izotope

I have V8 kicking around for ages and upgraded it. I haven't looked back.

Hey Guys,
I'm downloading albums from a site, (their Creative Commons releases, so
it's all legal), but some of the albums have quite a bit of silence at the
ends of the tracks. One I got the other day has a bit over two minutes! of
silence at the end of each track.

I've been told that Audacity can be used to cut off the end of the track and
get rid of the silent part, but I don't know what else I would do with it
other than that. It seems like overkill for me. Is there a simpler,
preferably cheap or free, solution to removing the silence from these
tracks?

Thanks for any advice.

Hello,

Yes, Express Burn is very accessible. If you use Jaws there's one point in
the burning process where you have to select whether you are coing to burn
file by file or load up all the files in a given folder. Here you have to
use the Jaws Cursor to reach the selection, but that's about as hard as it
gets. NCH Express Rip is also accessible and is my personal favourite CD
ripping tool. So I'd say, get the trial version and give the NCH Express
Burn a go.

Hi list, Merry Christmas.

Would anyone here know about the accessibility of the software from NCH?
Specifically, I want to look into their Express Burn CD burning software,
if

it works on Windows 7 64 bit machines. If anyone's had experience using
this, would you please give me some pointers for getting the best use from
it? Windows Media Player seems a bit tricky for setting up a playlist to
burn to a CD; I use System Access for a screen reader but something's
wrong
with the Media Library in that it won't let me burn something to CD;
Support
can't help much in this case. I have tried Digital Jukebox from
Marvelsoft;

in that case yes, I can make the playlist and then go to the Project menu
and tell the program to burn the tracks to CD; a blank CD is in the drive,
but when I hit the okay button after I'm given the total playing time for
the tracks to burn the CD, the speech just goes silent and a message pops
up

that the dj.exe has stopped working and should be closed; I haven't heard
back from their tech support yet, maybe tomorrow after Christmas.
Meanwhile I'm wanting to find out more about Express Burn by NCH Software
to

find out if it's accessible with screen readers before I plunk down money
for it. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me on this; also if
anyone has experience with Digital Jukebox by Marvelsoft I'm interested in
learning about experiences people had using it. thanks again and Merry
Christmas.

So, thanks in advance for suggestions as to whether this can be done; and,

Don,

I believe that the noise reduction plug-in that comes with Sound Forge is
available as a separate
purchase. You'd have to be sure that it would work with whatever sound
editor you are going to use,
though, and it is expensive, some might say over-priced. I have found
that the four noise reduction

modes that one can select are a plus because they
each have somewhat different artifacts that can be less intrusive
depending upon the program material.
This noise reduction plug-in is not part of Sound Forge Studio. If you
haven't yet, you might try a
demo of Adobe Audition. However, for it to work well, it needs some
support by your screen reader as
some information has to be retrieved by means other than an off-screen
model. I had pretty good luck
with its noise reduction in the past, but I don't know how accessible all
of the plug-in parameters are
in Adobe Audition any more. I would definitely take some time with the
demo before putting out the

cash.

I also don't like how gold wave handles previewing and some of the buggs
there in.

Having said all that recommendations please or have I effectively nailed
my coffin shut.

Thanks.

Hi. Why not try the JBL Control 2.4g cordless speakers. The pair I have
are phenomenal and I love listening to them, I never get listener fatigue.
They should cost around $210 and if you try them out you won't be sorry,
they are very small but you will listen to the power and volume that comes
from them and then feel their size and disbelieve what you are hearing could
possibly come from speaker so small. They also come with wall mounting
brackets which allows you to adjust their angle in relationship to your
listening position. Walter.

I have a computer at which I mostly edit field recordings I have made
and capture and edit audio streams. The speakers I had died and I am
looking for a pair of powered speakers that have a neutral sound that
I can use to edit, mix and make spoken word recordings. I want to
hear quality audio rather than the crappie speakers at the computer
store. Yet, I don’t need the fancy $800 studio monitors either.

I would appreciate any suggestions for affordable, but good sounding
powered speakers for editing spoken word recordings.

Hey Christopher. I posted about this earlier. The reading functions still
don't appear to work, and jaws still speaks as though the clipboard were

Here's the procedure I recommend, step by step.

Assuming that you already downloaded the scripts, and that you're using
Windows XP:
1. Go to the location where you saved the zipped archive containing the
scripts. The file you're looking for is goldwave5.65jawsscripts1.61.zip.
2. If you're using the zip/unzip utility built into Windows, press enter on
that file.

3. Select all the files and copy them to the clipboard.
4. Go to the start menu.
5. Go to programs.
6. Go to the submenu for the Jaws version you have installed.
7. Press enter on explore Jaws.
8. Press enter on explore my settings.
9.Paste the files into that folder.

All right guys...

So, obviously, the scripts V1.60 do not work with goldwave 5.65. I got rid
of those files, downloaded the new 1.61 version, and at first my
experience possibly mirrored Kim's; they were definitely not working.
However, I forgot to resave/compile the scripts I think, and now that I
have done that, they seem to be performing their proper functions. For
some reason the programme wants to hang when I hit insert-h, but as of now
that's the only problem I'm still having. So, Kim, if you want those
scripts to work, load them in the script manager and recompile.

Then open up GoldWave, hit insert-f2 and go down to the Script Manager. It

2011-12-31 Thread Christopher Wright
wrong? It seems to me that
GoldWave's developers have done a pretty ace job of making their
software screenreader-friendly up until now. However certain elements
like the reading of time intervalss, filenames, selection areas, etc,
simply don't speak anymore. If I can grab GW 5.57 and test it without
scripts, I will do so.

But it seems that some blind users are having success with this? Are
they simply used to not having this information read for them, though it
would seem fairly essential and necessary? I don't know. I'm cerrtainly
curious about other Jaws users' experiences here.

he wouldn't be familiar with the jfw scripts, so can someone who has
the scripts please test it without the scripts and let me/the list

changed in the syntax of the program that none of us know about.

Hey again everyone.

The programme itself is probably not to blame; it seems to me they've
gone above and beyond to make the software accessible. However, we
simply got used to the functionality of the scripts. If nobody's
around to update them anymore and the layout changes, there goes that
functionality. Perhaps someone else can take over? It seems to me
that

whatever modifications are needed ought to be pretty simple, but I
lack the requisite knowledge myself (always the excuse isn't it?)

I should add that there's still some voice feedbackrecord, play
etc buttons still speak and the active control read command works
along with some of the others not native to GW (at least I don't
think

they are). Just seems that any keystroke to do with time selection or
file information no longer reads the required information.

Hi Dave.

Thanks for all this. yes, you're right...GW definitely has done more
than any other sound editor to make their programme work well for
those of us who don't use the screen.

I think you're mostly right with all this stuff. What I'm going to do
later on is see if I can revert to 5.57, which is the last version I
remember using that gave a lot of voice feedback and seemed well
integrated with the scripts. I'll uninstall the scripts so I can see
exactly how much help they were giving us. The person who created the
scripts put in a lot of keyboard commands to read status information.
For example:

To read the selected channel press Alt+Shift+C.
To say the name of the open sound file press alt+shift+o.
To say the open file's format press alt+shift+i.
To report which GoldWave control is active press alt+shift+a.
To say the total playing time of a sound file press Alt+Shift+T.
To say the elapsed time while playing press Alt+shift+e.
To say the time location of the start marker press alt+Shift+s.
To say the time of the finish marker press alt+shift+f.
To say the duration of the selection press Alt+Shift+D.
To say the current zoom level, Press Alt+Shift+Z

Needless to say some of this was pretty useful. I seem to remember
certain cases where start and finish marker positions were spoken
automatically. As mentioned, the name of the current file is no
longer even read when you first move focus to Golwave, or switch from
one file to another. Copying and pasting of course does actually
work, but jaws seems to believe that there is nothing on the
clipboard and so, consequentially, nothing to paste.

Seems that the programme may work better with Window Eyes. I was
going to ask you how you'd been making out, since you seem to have
had considerable success with the latest versions, but forgot that
you were using W. Eyes. I of course have heard that Window Eyes
doesn't require as much scripting and addictional tweaking as JAWS
sometimes does in order to work most efficiently with certain
programmes.

Hello everyone.

I recently obtained GoldWave 5.61. I'm definitely pleased with what seem
to be a bunch of new accessibility-related features, though I haven't had
a chance to try much yet. At any rate, I used to get plenty of feedback
messages from the programme, which would speak the name of the file that
was open if I, for example, alt-tabbed over to the goldwave window, or
used alt-f6 to switch between files. I could also get JAWS to speak the
name of the file by hitting alt-shift-o, the file format, cursor position,
markers, etc. I noticed I was having some problems with the scripts, which
would seem to hang the programme whenever I hit insert-h or used some
other commands. So, I searched around and realised I wasn't using the most
up-to-date version. The laatest I found was 1.60. Installed these, and I'm
still getting very little voice feedback, though there doesn't seem to be
any more hanging issue. Everything in the programme seems to work fine,
but if I select a piece of sound from
a file, and copy it to the clipboard, jaws will say nothing selected.
This is simply untrue as I've tested and know for a fact that a selection
has happened, but for some reason JAWS and/or scripts are just not
tracking things correctly. None of the information keys seem to work; I
can't even get the time of the current file, and using alt-shift-o to
speak the current open filename only results in the word file being
read. I can see the information is there on the screen using the jaws
cursor, but I don't want to have to do this every time. It's particularly
annoying when moving between files because I don't always know which one
is open. I've turned off visual metres, and all other elements that I
think might be getting in the way of proper functionality. What's going on
here? Has the layout with GoldWave 5.61 changed so much that JAWS simply
can't find the relevant information anymore to read? Can I adjust anything
to make it work? Do I have to regress back to GW 5.57
if I want my status read? I realise that the scripts are not really
essential but I got used to being able to quickly check things like open
file status, elapsed time, marker positions, etc, and editing will take a
whole lot longer and involve more guesswork if I can't do this like I used
to. I keep thinking I'm missing some obvious setting. Any ideas at all?
I'm using jaws 11 by the way, which worked fine with v5.57 and even the
older scripts.

Thanks.

Re: How to inport to Goldwave?

2011-04-02 Thread Christopher Wright

If you were to import from your ITunes library, here's what you would do.

disclaimer: I'm using Windows XP.

1. Go into the my documents folder.
2. Go into the my music folder.
3. Go into the iTunes folder.
4. Go into the iTunes media folder.
5. Go into the music folder.
6. From here, you would have to locate the folder containing the audio you'd
like to edit. You should be able to open the files in Goldwave.

You might be better off, ripping the audio from the CD.
1. Press alt-T for the tools menu.

2. Press enter on CD Reader.
3. If you have more than one CD drive on your machine, select the drive
where the CD is.
4. Press the tab key six times. This will put you in the list of tracks on
the CD.
5. Now you need to tell Goldwave which tracks you want to copy to the
computer. Tip: Files that are checked will be copied.
6. If you want to rename the tracks, here's an opportunity to do that. Tab
to the rename button and press the space bar and type the desired name.
Repeat this step for each track.

7. Tab to the save button and press the space bar.
8. Here you tell Goldwave where to save the files and what format you want
them saved in, [Wave, MP3, etc.].

9. Press the space bar on the OK button.

Greetings,

What format is the song, .mp3 or .wav or windows media or some form of
which

I know not?

If .mp3 or .wav, can you see it in the ITunes system, sorry I don't know
much about ITunes, I assume there must be folders in which case, you must
be

able to access these from GW in the usual way.

If you cannot access the song via the folders, to get it off the cd, very
simple.

Put cd onto pc and go into tools and down to cd reader and enter, the rest
should be self-explanatory, just make sure you know the track required and
rip it onto your hard disk, then work on it as with any other GW file,
saving it as desired.

To use fadeout, place start marker at the place where you wish the fade to
begin, the finish marker must be at the end of the file, or if you wish to
lose the very end, delete as with any other part of the file. Now go into
effects, then u for volume, o for fade out, then I assume you want to fade
to nothing, so cursor down the presets to the one which says something
like
fade to silence linear, you should then get a nice, gentle fade, if you
use
the fade to silence logrythmic the fade is much more sudden and sharp, it
is

not gentle, it starts slowly and fades faster and faster.

Hope these few comments are of use.

Actually I have a good ear and have no trouble learning the music. We are
switching worship leaders and I will need to help distribute chord sheets
to
the musicians. I'd rather not do it by hand if necessary because I find
placing the chords above the words to be quite tedious to say the least.
There are quite a few free resources for finding chord charts, but they
are
becoming fewer and fewer as the publishers crack down on this practice. No
big deal if the site isn't useable by me, but it would be nice if it was.
Thanks for the help, though. Any tips for efficiently typing up chord
sheets
would be helpful, although we are quickly straying off topic so I expect
 off-list discussion would be best.

  Hi there,

I used to use CCLI when it was loaded on ones computer. Haven't used
  the web version.

Are you the one that is going to distribute the chord sheets and set up
the media projecting? If so, I think it can get a bit complicated for
you...But not to say it is impossible! This would depend on your level
of progress with computer programs and speech software.

As far as playing keyboard in church, most worship music is quite easy
to learn. Unlike the hymns, most songs now a days have just a few
chords and if you have an ear for music, should be easy for you.

I lead worship in my church and we do a great amount of the modern
worship songs, and I don't have any problem with them. I play guitar
and piano depending on the song. I have to give chord charts to the
rest of the musicians, but I memorize both words and chord progressions.

Right now I'm leading the faster choruses from the drums and the worship
choruses from either keyboard or acoustic guitar.

If you can't access the chords and would like my help on anything,
please don't hesitate to contact me off list.

Re: multi-tracking software.

2009-05-13 Thread Christopher Wright
Not true, Bruce. Programs such as Sonar allow you to, for example, record a
piano track today, a flute track tomorrow, etc. After all tracks are
recorded, you can make changes to each track as you see fit. From there, you
can mix it all down to a wav file, MP3 file or some other format. Now, let's
say that you play the audio file and say to yourself, Oops, that vocal
track is too loud. With Sonar, you can reload the project, lower the volume
on that vocal track and save a new audio version of the project.

With Goldwave, multitracking requires the use of several sound windows.

That's the short answer. The somewhat longer answer is in a way. You can
mix
tracks together, do voiceovers, and so on. I mix my radio shows together
(samples at www.totw.net) entirely using Gold Wave. I have mixed vocals
together on karaoke tracks. It's not as intuitive as a true multitrack
program, which is why the short answer is the correct short answer, but
can
be done to a limited degree.

 Hello Kieth.

Haven't time to give links, but there is quite a choice of sound editors
that work with screen readers generally including JFW.

 Paid for stereo editors include:
 Sony:
 Sound Forge, Sound Studio

 Goldwave

Studio Recorder from A P H. - this doesn't need scripts or anything as it
is designed from the ground up to be accessible. Can be used for music,
but
is primarily meant for speech editing.

Audacity, which is freeware or open source software. Believe there are
JFW
scripts for this one. It is a multi-track editor but can of course be
used
 for stereo editing.

In the multi-track field there is Sonar or Cakewalk which it developped
from
I believe. tthis is a combined audio and midi editor and very much aimed
at
musicians. Think the scripts here come from Dancing Dots.

Finally, their is Adobe Audition, but how well this works with JFW I
simply
don't know. this was known as Cool Edit until Adobe acquired it, since
when
it has gone through a few inaccessible versions, but I hear things are
beginning to be put right re. post version 3.

So, hope all that helps and a bit of Googling will turn up the info you
need.

I have several questions about Mp3 Direct Cut. I have figured out much of
the program, but there are still a few things that don't make sense.

First, I don't see the ctrl+arrow keys changing the volume of a selection,
 or of anything.

Second, I can't quite figure out what the E shortcut key does.

Third, I see how to create split points either by pause detection or
auto-cue, but I can't see any way to manually insert a split point in a
 file.

Fourth, the recording feature appears pretty inaccessible. Has anybody
had
 better luck with it?

Fifth, What is high-speed recording? It isn't even described in the
manual,
but it is a menu option and a feature which they tout for the program.

The program is quite useful, but I'd like to understand as much of it as I
 can.

 Thanks.

Subject: [friends] ACB Radio Interactive welcomes new broadcasters - come
join us

Are you a blind or visually impaired person, and ever thought of becoming a
broadcaster with ACB Radio Interactive? Well, you can, and what's more it's
easy. During the last year, ACB Radio Interactive has had to comply with
very stringent rules from an organization called Sound Exchange, which
handles copyright matters for the recording companies. This has meant that
we have had to supply, as part of our metadata - and I'll come back to what
metadata is later - artist, title, album and record label. Unfortunately
some of the software that broadcasters used before the introduction of this
somewhat stringent demand, was just not capable of providing all this data,
either at all, or in a useable form.

The team at ACB Radio Interactive have been working hard to find a way of
making the submission of this data easier, and have come to an agreement
with another organization which also handles the copyright, SWCast. This
organization only requires us to send as metadata - yes there's that word
again - artist and title. They do ask that if people can send album name as
well that would be useful, however it is not a requirement, although we at
ACB Radio would prefer people to send that if they have it, simply because
we show details on our own web page.

Okay let's get this term metadata explained. Metadata is text that is
streamed along with your audio, and on many players - especially Winamp, can
show up in the title bar, and also is shown on our web page, thus giving the
listener a way to find out, quite apart from the DJ announcing it, who the
artist is, and what the track title is. Okay, having got that out of the
way, let's continue.

If you've ever thought that you'd like to do a show on ACB Radio
Interactive, all the software that is currently available for broadcasting
is capable of sending the required text, however of course it does mean you
need to put the text in the file, and here again the software has facilities
for you to do this - no, it won't do it all by itself, you do have to enter
the data but hey, most of us know what we're playing and who it's by don't
we? Actually I'll let you into a little secret, there is software out there
that can do most of it for you without too much effort on your part.

Anyway, assuming you can do that, the rest is, as they say child's play.
All you have to do is write to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and we'll help you do the
rest, and the ACBRI team will help you get over any problems, and behold!
after an hour's audition - well we have to know if your stream is stable now
don't we? - there you'll be, a DJ on an ever-expanding high quality internet
radio station.

So come on, give it a go. So you've got a good album collection and would
like other people to hear it: now's your chance.

It goes without saying that we very much welcome back broadcasters who were
unable to comply with the Sound Exchange needs

Write to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and get broadcasting.

ACB Radio Interactive needs you!!! yes you!!! and you too!!! yes, and you
