Re: Editing WAV file with Goldwave
Do you shout during the music? - Original Message - From: "Andy"To: "PC Audio Discussion List" Sent: Monday, February 13, 2017 6:23 PM Subject: Editing WAV file with Goldwave Hi again all. I would have sent this request to the Goldwave list, of which I am a member, but have lost their email address. But this enquiry is also very much a PC Audio question and I'm sure there are members who could put me straight. I recorded my local quire using my Zoom and ended up with a large WAV file. I know how to chop it up into tracks using GW, but, and I need to be honest here, I was rather drunk when I was recording the concert and sitting too closely to my tripod, so this lovely recording is runed by the loud shouting and clapping from a drunk and I want to cut, me, out! I've got a copy of John Wilsons book concerning goldwave editing commands and what it says is place a left bracket at the start of the offending piece of recording and then a right bracket, at the end of it and then simply press the delete key and the offensive material should be deleted. Problem is when I do this I delete all of the file completely. I cannot find the left or right bracket keys on my keyboard, but I have found the left and right perin keys. Are they not the same thing guys or am I missing something? Any advice with this one would be fantastic as I really did mess up much of the recording with my enthusiasm and apart from my audio presence, the recording turned out rather very nice. Very best wishes. Andy. From Scotland with Love.

Adobe Audition
Does Audition work for us? - Original Message - From: Steve Jacobson steve.jacob...@visi.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, June 28, 2014 11:15 AM Subject: Re: Adobe Audition centre channel extract Laurence, I used Audition 1.5 for a long time, and liked it. There are two things I can suggest. First, make sure that the sound you are hearing is really part of the file and not a problem with Audition's playback. Create the file using the center channel extractor and then play it with another program such as Windows Media Player. Second, I was thinking that the center channel extractor did more than just combine channels, and it is possible that combining channels will do most of what you want to do. Try just combining channels and see whether it avoids the problem and gets you most of the way there or not. I think there is an item to do that but don't remember where it is any more, or you can probably do it by creating a monaural file. I had to let Audition go because I couldn't get it to install on a 64-bit system. It was more complicated than that as I had upgraded from previous versions and couldn't install one of the previous versions that was required. I wonder, though, if there could be some incompatibility with Windows 7. Best regards, Steve Jacobson On Sat, 28 Jun 2014 13:45:51 +0100, Laurence Taylor wrote: This is what used to be called Cool Edit. I am using Audition 1.5 to clean up recording of old 78rpm records. The main process involves the Centre Channel Extract function (since most surface noise is out of phase), and it works very well, often needing nothing else to be done. However, the resulting file has a low-level repeated burst of phase distortion, a sort of meep ... meep ... meep, which can be very distracting. I've tried playing with the settings but nothing seems to help much, likewise filtering doesn't assist as the meeps are too wideband. Any ideas as to what it cold be and whay I could do about it, or is it just something I'll have to put up with? (Up with which I will have to put). One I got the other day has a bit over two minutes! of silence at the end of each track. I've been told that Audacity can be used to cut off the end of the track and get rid of the silent part, but I don't know what else I would do with it other than that. It seems like overkill for me. Is there a simpler, preferably cheap or free, solution to removing the silence from these tracks? Thanks for any advice. Evan

Hello, Yes, Express Burn is very accessible. If you use Jaws there's one point in the burning process where you have to select whether you are coing to burn file by file or load up all the files in a given folder. Here you have to use the Jaws Cursor to reach the selection, but that's about as hard as it gets. NCH Express Rip is also accessible and is my personal favourite CD ripping tool. Hi list, Merry Christmas. Would anyone here know about the accessibility of the software from NCH? Specifically, I want to look into their Express Burn CD burning software, if it works on Windows 7 64 bit machines. If anyone's had experience using this, would you please give me some pointers for getting the best use from it? Windows Media Player seems a bit tricky for setting up a playlist to burn to a CD; I use System Access for a screen reader but something's wrong with the Media Library in that it won't let me burn something to CD; Support can't help much in this case. I have tried Digital Jukebox from Marvelsoft; in that case yes, I can make the playlist and then go to the Project menu and tell the program to burn the tracks to CD; a blank CD is in the drive, but when I hit the okay button after I'm given the total playing time for the tracks to burn the CD, the speech just goes silent and a message pops up that the dj.exe has stopped working and should be closed; I haven't heard back from their tech support yet, maybe tomorrow after Christmas. Meanwhile I'm wanting to find out more about Express Burn by NCH Software to find out if it's accessible with screen readers before I plunk down money for it. Thanks in advance for any info you can give me on this; also if anyone has experience with Digital Jukebox by Marvelsoft I'm interested in learning about experiences people had using it. thanks again and Merry Christmas. You'd have to be sure that it would work with whatever sound editor you are going to use, though, and it is expensive, some might say over-priced. I have found that the four noise reduction modes that one can select are a plus because they each have somewhat different artifacts that can be less intrusive depending upon the program material. This noise reduction plug-in is not part of Sound Forge Studio. If you haven't yet, you might try a demo of Adobe Audition. However, for it to work well, it needs some support by your screen reader as some information has to be retrieved by means other than an off-screen model. I had pretty good luck with its noise reduction in the past, but I don't know how accessible all of the plug-in parameters are in Adobe Audition any more. I would definitely take some time with the demo before putting out the cash. Here's the procedure I recommend, step by step. Assuming that you already downloaded the scripts, and that you're using Windows XP: 1. Go to the location where you saved the zipped archive containing the scripts. The file you're looking for is goldwave5.65jawsscripts1.61.zip. 2. If you're using the zip/unzip utility built into Windows, press enter on that file. 3. Select all the files and copy them to the clipboard. 4. Go to the start menu. 5. Go to programs. 6. Go to the submenu for the Jaws version you have installed. 7. Press enter on explore Jaws. 8. Press enter on explore my settings. 9.Paste the files into that folder. - Original Message - From: JM Casey crystallo...@ca.inter.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, January 07, 2012 5:27 PM Subject: Re: Anybody Tried Out The New Gold Wave Scripts Yet? Go to the location where you saved the zipped archive containing the scripts. The file you're looking for is goldwave5.65jawsscripts1.61.zip. 2. If you're using the zip/unzip utility built into Windows, press enter on that file. 3. Select all the files and copy them to the clipboard. 4. Go to the start menu. 5. Go to programs. 6. I got rid of those files, downloaded the new 1.61 version, and at first my experience possibly mirrored Kim's; they were definitely not working. However, I forgot to resave/compile the scripts I think, and now that I have done that, they seem to be performing their proper functions. For some reason the programme wants to hang when I hit insert-h, but as of now that's the only problem I'm still having. So, Kim, if you want those scripts to work, load them in the script manager and recompile. - From: Christopher Wright chri...@bestweb.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Friday, January 06, 2012 7:03 PM Subject: Re: Anybody Tried Out The New Gold Wave Scripts Yet? Re: Field names and field data was GoldWave not speakingstatusinformation
wrong? It seems to me that GoldWave's developers have done a pretty ace job of making their software screenreader-friendly up until now. However certain elements like the reading of time intervalss, filenames, selection areas, etc, simply don't speak anymore. If I can grab GW 5.57 and test it without scripts, I will do so. But it seems that some blind users are having success with this? Are they simply used to not having this information read for them, though it would seem fairly essential and necessary? I don't know. I'm cerrtainly curious about other Jaws users' experiences here. - Original Message - From: Dave bahr dcba...@gmail.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Friday, December 30, 2011 10:08 PM Subject: Re: GoldWave not speaking status information so we're talking about the edit boxes for the time selection in setting the markers? It seems to me that whatever modifications are needed ought to be pretty simple, but I lack the requisite knowledge myself (always the excuse isn't it?) Thanks for all this. yes, you're right...GW definitely has done more than any other sound editor to make their programme work well for those of us who don't use the screen. I think you're mostly right with all this stuff. What I'm going to do later on is see if I can revert to 5.57, which is the last version I remember using that gave a lot of voice feedback and seemed well integrated with the scripts. I'll uninstall the scripts so I can see exactly how much help they were giving us. The person who created the scripts put in a lot of keyboard commands to read status information. For example: To read the selected channel press Alt+Shift+C. To say the name of the open sound file press alt+shift+o. To say the open file's format press alt+shift+i. To report which GoldWave control is active press alt+shift+a. To say the total playing time of a sound file press Alt+Shift+T. To say the elapsed time while playing press Alt+shift+e. To say the time location of the start marker press alt+Shift+s. To say the time of the finish marker press alt+shift+f. To say the duration of the selection press Alt+Shift+D. To say the current zoom level, Press Alt+Shift+Z Needless to say some of this was pretty useful. I seem to remember certain cases where start and finish marker positions were spoken automatically. As mentioned, the name of the current file is no longer even read when you first move focus to Golwave, or switch from one file to another. Copying and pasting of course does actually work, but jaws seems to believe that there is nothing on the clipboard and so, consequentially, nothing to paste. Seems that the programme may work better with Window Eyes. I was going to ask you how you'd been making out, since you seem to have had considerable success with the latest versions, but forgot that you were using W. Eyes. I of course have heard that Window Eyes doesn't require as much scripting and addictional tweaking as JAWS sometimes does in order to work most efficiently with certain programmes. - Original Message --- -- From: Dave bahr dcba...@gmail.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, December 31, 2011 2:27 PM Subject: Field names and field data was GoldWave not speaking statusinformation I've alerted Chris, the developer, to the issue of headings not being spoken, or that's what I'm calling them, I mean the field name, really. I experienced the same thing, except that I'm using Jaws 13. After experiencing the problem you described, regarding selecting audio and then copying that audio to the clipboard, I got the same message you heard. I ended up going back to Goldwave 5.58, which is what I had before. - Original Message - From: JM Casey crystallo...@ca.inter.net To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Thursday, December 29, 2011 2:20 PM Subject: GoldWave not speaking status information Hello everyone. I recently obtained GoldWave 5.61. I'm definitely pleased with what seem to be a bunch of new accessibility-related features, though I haven't had a chance to try much yet. At any rate, I used to get plenty of feedback messages from the programme, which would speak the name of the file that was open if I, for example, alt-tabbed over to the goldwave window, or used alt-f6 to switch between files. I could also get JAWS to speak the name of the file by hitting alt-shift-o, the file format, cursor position, markers, etc. I noticed I was having some problems with the scripts, which would seem to hang the programme whenever I hit insert-h or used some other commands. So, I searched around and realised I wasn't using the most up-to-date version. The laatest I found was 1.60. Installed these, and I'm still getting very little voice feedback, though there doesn't seem to be any more hanging issue. Everything in the programme seems to work fine, but if I select a piece of sound from a file, and copy it to the clipboard, jaws will say nothing selected. This is simply untrue as I've tested and know for a fact that a selection has happened, but for some reason JAWS and/or scripts are just not tracking things correctly. None of the information keys seem to work; I can't even get the time of the current file, and using alt-shift-o to speak the current open filename only results in the word file being read. I can see the information is there on the screen using the jaws cursor, but I don't want to have to do this every time. It's particularly annoying when moving between files because I don't always know which one is open. I've turned off visual metres, and all other elements that I think might be getting in the way of proper functionality. What's going on here? Has the layout with GoldWave 5.61 changed so much that JAWS simply can't find the relevant information anymore to read? Can I adjust anything to make it work? Do I have to regress back to GW 5.57 if I want my status read? I realise that the scripts are not really essential but I got used to being able to quickly check things like open file status, elapsed time, marker positions, etc, and editing will take a whole lot longer and involve more guesswork if I can't do this like I used to. I keep thinking I'm missing some obvious setting. Any ideas at all? I'm using jaws 11 by the way, which worked fine with v5.57 and even the older scripts. Thanks. Re: How to inport to Goldwave?
If you were to import from your ITunes library, here's what you would do. disclaimer: I'm using Windows XP. 1. Go into the my documents folder. 2. Go into the my music folder. 3. Go into the iTunes folder. 4. Go into the iTunes media folder. 5. Go into the music folder. 6. From here, you would have to locate the folder containing the audio you'd like to edit. You should be able to open the files in Goldwave. You might be better off, ripping the audio from the CD. 1. Press alt-T for the tools menu. 2. Press enter on CD Reader. 3. If you have more than one CD drive on your machine, select the drive where the CD is. 4. Press the tab key six times. This will put you in the list of tracks on the CD. 5. Now you need to tell Goldwave which tracks you want to copy to the computer. Tip: Files that are checked will be copied. 6. If you want to rename the tracks, here's an opportunity to do that. Tab to the rename button and press the space bar and type the desired name. Repeat this step for each track. 7. Tab to the save button and press the space bar. 8. Here you tell Goldwave where to save the files and what format you want them saved in, [Wave, MP3, etc.]. 9. Press the space bar on the OK button. - Original Message - From: Colin Howard co...@pobox.com To: PC Audio Discussion List pc-audio@pc-audio.org Sent: Saturday, April 02, 2011 6:16 PM Subject: Re: How to inport to Goldwave? Greetings, What format is the song, .mp3 or .wav or windows media or some form of which I know not? If .mp3 or .wav, can you see it in the ITunes system, sorry I don't know much about ITunes, I assume there must be folders in which case, you must be able to access these from GW in the usual way. If you cannot access the song via the folders, to get it off the cd, very simple. Put cd onto pc and go into tools and down to cd reader and enter, the rest should be self-explanatory, just make sure you know the track required and rip it onto your hard disk, then work on it as with any other GW file, saving it as desired. To use fadeout, place start marker at the place where you wish the fade to begin, the finish marker must be at the end of the file, or if you wish to lose the very end, delete as with any other part of the file. Now go into effects, then u for volume, o for fade out, then I assume you want to fade to nothing, so cursor down the presets to the one which says something like fade to silence linear, you should then get a nice, gentle fade, if you use the fade to silence logrythmic the fade is much more sudden and sharp, it is not gentle, it starts slowly and fades faster and faster. Hope these few comments are of use. From Colin Howard, who lives in Fareham on the coast of Central Southern England. Not true, Bruce. Programs such as Sonar allow you to, for example, record a piano track today, a flute track tomorrow, etc. After all tracks are recorded, you can make changes to each track as you see fit. From there, you can mix it all down to a wav file, MP3 file or some other format. Now, let's say that you play the audio file and say to yourself, Oops, that vocal track is too loud. With Sonar, you can reload the project, lower the volume on that vocal track and save a new audio version of the project. With Goldwave, multitracking requires the use of several sound windows. Fw: [friends] ACB Radio Interactive welcomes new broadcasters - come join us
- Original Message - From: Chrissie Cochrane [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED]; A list for our spicerack family, radio shows, and more [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, November 10, 2008 3:27 PM Subject: [friends] ACB Radio Interactive welcomes new broadcasters - come join us Are you a blind or visually impaired person, and ever thought of becoming a broadcaster with ACB Radio Interactive? Well, you can, and what's more it's easy. During the last year, ACB Radio Interactive has had to comply with very stringent rules from an organization called Sound Exchange, which handles copyright matters for the recording companies. This has meant that we have had to supply, as part of our metadata - and I'll come back to what metadata is later - artist, title, album and record label. Unfortunately some of the software that broadcasters used before the introduction of this somewhat stringent demand, was just not capable of providing all this data, either at all, or in a useable form. The team at ACB Radio Interactive have been working hard to find a way of making the submission of this data easier, and have come to an agreement with another organization which also handles the copyright, SWCast. This organization only requires us to send as metadata - yes there's that word again - artist and title. They do ask that if people can send album name as well that would be useful, however it is not a requirement, although we at ACB Radio would prefer people to send that if they have it, simply because we show details on our own web page. Okay let's get this term metadata explained. Metadata is text that is streamed along with your audio, and on many players - especially Winamp, can show up in the title bar, and also is shown on our web page, thus giving the listener a way to find out, quite apart from the DJ announcing it, who the artist is, and what the track title is. Okay, having got that out of the way, let's continue. If you've ever thought that you'd like to do a show on ACB Radio Interactive, all the software that is currently available for broadcasting is capable of sending the required text, however of course it does mean you need to put the text in the file, and here again the software has facilities for you to do this - no, it won't do it all by itself, you do have to enter the data but hey, most of us know what we're playing and who it's by don't we? Actually I'll let you into a little secret, there is software out there that can do most of it for you without too much effort on your part. Anyway, assuming you can do that, the rest is, as they say child's play. All you have to do is write to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and we'll help you do the rest, and the ACBRI team will help you get over any problems, and behold! after an hour's audition - well we have to know if your stream is stable now don't we? - there you'll be, a DJ on an ever-expanding high quality internet radio station. So come on, give it a go. So you've got a good album collection and would like other people to hear it: now's your chance. It goes without saying that we very much welcome back broadcasters who were unable to comply with the Sound Exchange needs Write to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and get broadcasting. # ACB Radio Interactive needs you!!! yes you!!! and you too!!! yes, and you skulking back there in the cheap seats, so come join us and help us show the world just how good internet radio can be. Re: a gold wave question
Hi Kevin, Some clarification please. Are you trying to paste audio at a particular point, or mix two bits of audio together? Jonathan Mosen List Founder Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
